Sutil will start on inters and Kerr on slicks. Sutil will stop for slicks once Kerr starts lapping consistently quicker than him, unless that starts to happen with less than 10 laps to go, in which case Sutil will stay out until the end.

Both drivers will start with inters, with both drivers pitting in a interval of 1% of track conditions (Philippe at 31% and Piquet at 30%)

Slicks for Danielsson, and inters for Zuber. Zuber will pit on lap 8 for slicks.

di Grassi will start on inters and switch to slicks when the wet percentage gets under 28%

Pagenaud will start on slicks. If the wet percentage hasn't fallen to under 35% by lap 8, he will switch to inters.

No pitting in the last 9 laps.

Grosjean will run slicks, di Resta will start on inters and switch to wets once Grosjean sets two lap times in a row that are quicker than the inters.

As the advice on tyre change was different from the users I decided to change it so that each driver who started on inters will take slicks after their team-mate has done faster lap on slicks. In case the team-mate is not on slicks (including situation of team-mate being out of the race), the average laptime of drivers using slicks is used as comparison.

I have now done 15 laps of the race.

Start: In intermediate conditions there are lots of differences between the drivers. Start happens to be much cleaner than in the feature race, but not without incident this time either. Grosjean and Philippe collide, Grosjean goes out and Philippe to the pits. He goes for slicks at the same time.
Lap 1: di Grassi goes off at Renault curve, retiring while Piquet has more gentle off. Anyway, he loses some positions too.
Order: Hülkenberg, Jarvis, Zuber, Buemi, Sutil, Glock, Turvey, Albuquerque, Valerio, Petrov, Piquet Jr., van der Garde, Danielsson, di Resta, Matsuda, Yoshimoto, Senna, Kovalainen, Pagenaud, Lotterer, Teixeira, Kerr, Philippe (pitting and losing more time), Niemelä.
Lap 2: Piquet Jr. makes another mistake and drops to 23rd, only his team-mate behind him.
Lap 4: First 15 positions are held by drivers on intermediates. Danielsson is 16th, 21.4 seconds from the lead.
Lap 6: Petrov overtakes Valerio.
Lap 7: di Resta overtakes Valerio. Danielsson is 26.8 seconds from the lead.
Lap 9: Small collision between Glock and Turvey, dropping the Englishman to 8th.
Lap 10: Pagenaud hits Lotterer and overtakes him. Kovalainen goes off and pits to retire.
Lap 13: Hülkenberg makes a small mistake which drops him to 3rd.
Laps 14-16: Drivers who started on inters change to slicks.
Lap 17: Danielsson,(5.8) Zuber, Sutil, Jarvis, Buemi, Hülkenberg,(3.8) Glock, Albuquerque, (3.4) Lotterer, Kerr. Then Niemelä, Turvey, Pagenaud, di Resta, Petrov, van der Garde, Yoshimoto, Matsuda, Senna, Valerio, Teixeira, Piquet Jr. and Philippe (no gaps mentioned outside top 10). Pagenaud drops down on the order as he serves drive through penalty for the collision with Lotterer.
Lap 18: Jarvis overtakes Sutil.
Lap 23: Niemelä collides with Turvey and retires.
Lap 24: Kerr spins, drops to 12th. Turvey now in top 10.
Lap 26: Just like in Bahrain, same driver wins both races in Catalunya. Danielsson was so much faster than others who chose slicks, meaning that he was the only one who could take real advantage.

It was Timo Glock who went fastest early on and incredibnly no one could beat that time. Paul di Resta came close but lost by one thousand of second.

Andreas Zuber's car failed on the closing minutes of the qualifying session. Four drivers crashed their cars: Hiroki Yoshimoto, Lucas di Grassi, Armaan Ebrahim and Filipe Albuquerque.

Post by Bleu »

Lap 1: di Resta managed to get ahead of Lotterer and Kovalainen but otherwise top 8 stayed in same order going through Ste Devote. This time no incidents there. Kovalainen lost two more positions during the first lap.
Albuqueque, Grosjean, van der Garde, Piquet Jr., di Resta, Lotterer, Glock, Senna, Kovalainen, Sutil, Buemi, Pagenaud, Niemelä, Matsuda, Zuber, Hülkenberg, Yoshimoto, Jarvis, Valerio, Ebrahim, Danielsson, Philippe, di Grassi, Kerr, Petrov, Turvey.
Lap 4: Mistake from Kovalainen allows Sutil into 9th.
Lap 5: Lotterer makes a small mistake and Glock goes through to 6th.
Lap 7: Danielsson drops to 24th after a mistake while trying to overtake Ebrahim.
Lap 9: Sutil gets bad getaway from the chicane and Kovalainen comes alongside him. They touch and both end into wall at Tabac. Safety car comes out.
Lap 13: Restart. Albuquerque, Grosjean, van der Garde, Piquet Jr., di Resta, Glock, Lotterer, Senna, Buemi, Pagenaud, Niemelä, Matsuda, Hülkenberg, Zuber, Yoshimoto, Jarvis, Valerio, Philippe, Ebrahim, di Grassi, Petrov, Danielsson, Kerr, Turvey.
Lap 14: Pagenaud retires.
Lap 16: Shaky events at the back. Drivers on positions 18-21 were in order Ebrahim, di Grassi, Danielsson, Petrov and end in Danielsson, Ebrahim, Petrov, di Grassi.
Lap 17: di Grassi has a big crash coming down to Mirabeau. He is OK, but car gets bad damage. Safety car.
Lap 20: Restart.
Lap 23: van der Garde and Piquet collide as Brazilian tries to overtake and Dutchman blocks him at the chicane. van der Garde drops down to 5th, Piquet Jr. down to 9th.
Lap 24: Matsuda damages his car as he touches wall at Casino. He pulls to the pits and retires.
Lap 28: Glock overtakes di Resta.
Lap 30: Final drama! Grosjean's car comes to a halt just after first corner. He is angry while climbing out.
Maximum time is reached on the same lap as they finish anyway. Albuquerque stays ahead, while Glock and di Resta take double podium for the event. van der Garde finishes fourth, Lotterer fifth, Senna opens his point tally with sixth. However, there is still more to come.
Post-race: The stewards heard drivers about Sutil/Kovalainen collision, after which it was decided that no further action was needed. However, Piquet Jr. was absolutely furious at van der Garde. What they said to each other is better not to be published. The post-race event was seen so serious that both drivers were disqualified from the race, van der Garde from fourth and Piquet Jr. from eighth. van der Garde was also awarded 10-place grid penalty for next race due to collision.

Post by Bleu »

Top of the championship was surprisingly struggling in the fourth qualifying of the GP2 season in Magny-Cours. Andre Lotterer, Alx Danielsson and Timo Glock will have a lot to do in the race.

Adrian Sutil claimed the pole position, his second in the series. Sebastien Buemi was a pleasant surprise in the qualifying, joining Sutil in the front row. Oliver Jarvis spun off and had to end his session early.

Giedo van der Garde will start 21st following the grid penalty.

Re: 2007 Alternate GP2 - Magny-Cours qualifying results

Post by Bleu »

Start: Buemi was able to get into the lead by the time the field reached Adelaide hairpin. After that, polesitter Sutil lost one more place to di Resta. Petrov stalled on the grid. He was able to continue but long time after everyone else.
Buemi, di Resta, Sutil, di Grassi, Kovalainen, Zuber, Lotterer, Albuquerque, Hülkenberg, Turvey, Danielsson, Piquet Jr., Senna, Glock, Matsuda, Kerr, Niemelä, van der Garde, Pagenaud, Jarvis, Ebrahim, Grosjean, Philippe, Valerio, Yoshimoto, Petrov.
Lap 2: Sutil overtakes di Resta. Albuquerque overtakes Lotterer.
Lap 3: Kovalainen overtakes di Grassi.
Lap 4: Hülkenberg overtakes Lotterer.
Lap 5: Yoshimoto goes off and is in need of pit stop. He goes for an extra lap though, since that means he doesn't need additional stop.
Lap 6: Lotterer is going to re-take Hülkenberg and is already half a car length past him until Hülkenberg puts front tyre ahead of Lotterer's rear tyre. They collide, punting Lotterer to the side of the track and Hülkenberg getting also terminal damage.
Lap 7: Kovalainen overtakes di Resta. van der Garde pits and retires.
Lap 8: Senna and Danielsson clash. Both pit for repairs.
Until lap 13: All pit stops are made. Buemi's stop was a slow one and Sutil took the lead back.
Lap 13: Sutil, Buemi, di Resta, Kovalainen, Zuber, di Grassi, Albuquerque, Turvey, Glock, Piquet Jr., Matsuda, Pagenaud, Senna, Kerr, Jarvis, Niemelä, Philippe, Ebrahim, Grosjean, Valerio, Danielsson (who had another off), Yoshimoto, Petrov.
Lap 20: Albuquerque overtakes di Grassi.
Lap 21: Small mistake from Grosjean drops him from 19th to 21st.
Lap 25: Amazingly close battle in the front. Sutil, Buemi, di Resta and Kovalainen within a second. Zuber 2.6 behind, Albuquerque 4.7, di Grassi 7.8 and Turvey 11.5 with Glock just behind. Piquet Jr. tenth with Matsuda, Pagenaud, Senna, Kerr, Jarvis, Niemelä, Philippe, Danielsson, Ebrahim, Valerio, Grosjean, Yoshimoto and Petrov rounding the field.
Lap 26: Buemi outbrakes Sutil to take the lead.
Lap 28: Glock snatches 8th place from Turvey and is now on road for the pole.
Lap 31: Piquet Jr. overtakes Turvey.
Lap 32: Kovalainen overtakes di Resta.
Lap 40: Both Junior Reject Motorsport drivers spun off in separate events. Ebrahim at Imola corner, Valerio goes off at Nürburgring corner.
Lap 41: Buemi snatches his first win in the series as well as first for any Swiss driver. Sutil and Kovalainen join him on the podium. Glock gets pole for the sprint race.

Start: It is Albuquerque who succeeds in the start and leads into Adelaide. Glock and di Grassi follow. But before the first lap is completed, Glock leads.
Glock, Albuquerque, di Grassi, Zuber, Sutil, di Resta, Kovalainen, Buemi, Piquet Jr., Turvey, Matsuda, Pagenaud, Senna, Jarvis, Danielsson, Niemelä, Kerr, Philippe, Petrov, Yoshimoto, van der Garde, Ebrahim, Valerio, Lotterer, Hülkenberg, Grosjean.
Grosjean was out of the race after contact with Kerr. While Grosjean has been involved in multiple collisions, this one was Kerr's fault.
Lap 3: Ebrahim loses one and half seconds by going off. He drops to last.
Lap 4: Kerr retires to the pits with mechanical problem.
Lap 5: Kovalainen crashes heavily at the exit of Estoril corner. Safety car. Kovalainen climbs out but is clearly shaken. di Resta manages to get past Sutil.
Lap 10: Restart. Glock, Albuquerque, di Grassi, Zuber, di Resta, Sutil, Buemi, Piquet Jr., Turvey, Matsuda, Senna, Pagenaud, Jarvis, Danielsson, Niemelä, Petrov, Philippe, Yoshimoto, van der Garde, Hülkenberg, Lotterer, Valerio, Ebrahim.
Lap 12: di Resta overtakes Zuber and Piquet Jr. overtakes Buemi.
Lap 13: Piquet Jr. and Sutil are so tight in their battle so Buemi overtakes them both. Pagenaud overtakes Matsuda.
Lap 15: Senna's mistake drops him to 19th.
Lap 16: di Resta overtakes di Grassi.
Lap 22: Matsuda and Jarvis collide. Jarvis is out, Matsuda pits.
Lap 23: Niemelä goes off and pits.
Lap 27: Glock slows coming out of Lycee corner! Is it a problem?
Luckily no, it was brilliant tactic by the team. He had three-second-gap to Albuquerque and with his normal speed he would have started another lap. He slowed enough to make the race end on this lap thanks to 45-minute-limit. The race was obviously slowed by the safety car.

Scuderia Alitalia Coloni conquered the front row at Silverstone. Unlike it has been on many occasions, this time it really was teams showing big strength, because behind them, Hunter Autosport and Ember Racing drivers shared next two rows. Vitaly Petrov, recently sacked from Life Motorsport, surprised and took 3rd spot, two places ahead of his team-mate and championship leader Timo Glock.

There was no big drama in the session in terms of accidents or mechanical problems.

Robbie Kerr and Tsugio Matsuda will start from the back row following their grid penalties.

Due to consistently disappointing results, Robbie Kerr will be dropped from the Starforce squad at the conclusion of this weekend. Loic Duval will take his place for the rest of the season.

Start: No changes on the front except Glock taking fourth place. Further back, Yoshimoto hit Piquet Jr. and forced the Brazilian off road, rejoining the race in last position. Yoshimoto was out on the spot.
Lotterer, Albuquerque, Petrov, Glock, Jarvis, Turvey, Senna, Buemi, Grosjean, Zuber, Danielsson, Pagenaud, Sutil, di Resta, van der Garde, di Grassi, Ricciardo, Hülkenberg, Niemelä, Valerio, Philippe, Kerr, Matsuda, Ebrahim, Piquet Jr.
Lap 6: Glock overtakes Petrov.
Lap 8: Turvey overtakes Jarvis, Danielsson overtakes Zuber. So three passes between team-mates. Little did we know how much that affects the race...
Lap 10: Big crash between Pagenaud and van der Garde at Club. Safety car is deployed and everyone pits. Yes, this means that the drivers who are ahead of their team-mates get advantage...
Lap 11: Lotterer, Turvey, Glock, Senna, Buemi, Grosjean, Sutil, Danielsson, Albuquerque, Jarvis, Petrov, di Grassi, Ricciardo, Hülkenberg, Kerr, Zuber, di Resta, Valerio, Philippe, Matsuda, Ebrahim, Niemelä, Piquet Jr.
Lap 14: Restart.
Lap 15: Jarvis goes off and retires. Despite the big hit, driver is OK.
Lap 17: Sutil overtakes Grosjean.
Lap 19: Glock hits Turvey and needs new front wing. Turvey loses a bit of time, allowing Senna to second.
Lap 21: Lotterer makes a mistake and goes off at Abbey. He's out of the race, Senna leads!
Lap 23: Kerr spins off.
Lap 25: Albuquerque overtakes Danielsson.
Lap 28: Albuquerque spins off at the same place where his team-mate went off. Bad day for Scuderia Alitalia Coloni.
Lap 33: di Grassi and Hülkenberg collide in their battle for sprint race pole. It ends in a retirement for both drivers. Ricciardo moves up to 8th in his debut race. With safety car coming out, this also confirms a victory for Senna.
Lap 36: Race finishes under the safety car.
Post-race: Glock was deemed responsible for the collision with Turvey. With Glock finishing last of the drivers the stewards decided to remove his fastest lap of the race, which would have given him one point. This point goes to Turvey. Other incidents in the race won't lead to any penalties.

Start: No incidents on the first lap. Many changes in order though, Petrov moved into lead. Sutil overtook Danielsson at the start and Grosjean later on the first lap.
Petrov, Ricciardo, Sutil, Grosjean, Danielsson, Turvey, Buemi, Matsuda, Senna, di Resta, Zuber, Valerio, Niemelä, Ebrahim, Philippe, Piquet Jr., di Grassi, Glock, Hülkenberg, Lotterer, Kerr, Albuquerque, Pagenaud, Jarvis, Yoshimoto, van der Garde.
Lap 2: Turvey and Buemi collide with both going out of the race.
Lap 3: Another incident, this time with Niemelä and Valerio. Niemelä is out, Valerio drops from 10th to 11th.
Lap 4: More crashes and this time it's the leading pair! Ricciardo hits Petrov and is out of the race. Petrov escapes almost unscatched, but Sutil is now in the lead. Meanwhile, Ebrahim, who is up to 10th, comes into the pits to serve drive through penalty - he had jumped the start.
Lap 5: Glock has charged his way up to 9th already. Sutil was put under investigation for not lifting for the yellow flags. However, his subsequent laps were enough to convince that he lifted, therefore no penalty for him.
Lap 6: Zuber goes off at Chapel, safety car comes out.
Lap 9: Restart.
Lap 10: Lotterer and Hülkenberg clash, Hülkenberg is out and Lotterer drops two places.
Sutil, Petrov, Grosjean, Danielsson, Matsuda, Senna, di Resta, Glock, Philippe, Valerio, di Grassi, Piquet Jr., Albuquerque, Lotterer, Kerr, Jarvis, Pagenaud, Yoshimoto, van der Garde, Ebrahim.
Lap 11: Guess what? A collision? Yes, this time it's Senna and di Resta who crash each other out.
Lap 13: And another. Pagenaud hits Kerr and forces both drivers to make a pit stop.
Lap 14: Matsuda spins off.
Lap 16: Valerio spins off.
Lap 17: Lotterer overtakes Albuquerque.
Lap 19: Glock overtakes Danielsson.
Lap 24: Nothing more happens. Sutil wins, while Petrov and Grosjean take their first podiums. Glock made a great recovery drive to take fourth.
