If available, Toleman would like to extend an offer of a guest stint to Jacky Ickx for the final three races of the season. While impressed with Tambay's performance, the team need to try something different to push for their first points.

Would that mean fielding a second car for those races, or will Tambay be replaced?

Oh for some reason I thought we weren't allowed to field a second car unless other teams withdrew. We'll run two cars then!

That's true, but Surtees withdrew and Dywa only runs a single-car entry.

Ok, I have decided to finish this season as quickly as possible, which means no more live coverage and small gaps between the races.

I'll make a thread for 1982, but if it will actually go ahead depends on the amount of interest.

I'll add you to the waiting list. As this series is just returning from a longer hiatus, you might be lucky and get an entry for next season.

1981 Canadian Grand Prix - Pre-Qualifying

Nothing unexpected in pre-qualifying. The Tyrrells and Boros dominate, the Renaults a distant 5th and 6th, the ATS-Wolfs beat the Alfa Romeos once again. The Dywa doesn't make any improvements over its dismal performance at Monza and finishes 36 seconds off the pace.

1. Jean-Pierre Jarier (Tyrrell 011) 1:32.481
2. Jean-Pierre Jabouille (Tyrrell 011) +0.156
3. Rene Arnoux (Boro 005) +0.570
4. Jacques Villeneuve (Boro 005) +0.698
5. Alain Prost (Renault RE30) +3.429
6. Mike Thackwell (Renault RE30) +3.648
7. Brett Lunger (ATS-Wolf D4) +5.117
8. Huub Rothengatter (ATS-Wolf D4) +5.382
9. Nigel Mansell (Alfa Romeo 181) +5.550
10. Mauro Baldi (Alfa Romeo 181) +5.734
11. Beppe Gabbiani (Dywa 010) +36.172

Calm down. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but at the moment, you don't even have an entry yet. I'll finish 1981 first, then I'll start the 1982 thread. Next, the owners of the existing teams have to confirm their entrys and then the open slots will be redistributed according to the waiting list, which can be found here.

Instead of making plans for something you don't have, I'd spend some time reading the thread to become au fait with how things work. You may then begin to find the answers you seek.

BMW will continue next year, provided engine makers get a new budget (which will sort of have to happen since most are broke). We also would be interested in buying out a team.....

I'm sorry, I have. Sebring has already been run, but I can put Ickx in for Suzuka.

Fastest Lap: Nelson Piquet (Shadow-Ferrari)

Championship Battles:
If Nelson Piquet wins or finishes second, he's champion.
If Piquet finishes third or fourth, Rosberg has to win.
If Piquet finishes fifth or sixth, Rosberg has to finish second
If Piquet fails to score, Rosberg has to finish third.

In the Constructors' Championship, Shadow lead by ten points and with 6:4 wins, so Brabham need to outscore them by eleven points. So one of the Brabham drivers has to win, and the other must at least finish fifth in order to have a chance at the title.

Jacky Ickx's return halted by technical issues
Toleman captured the imagination of the F1 paddock following their announcement to run a second car for the last three rounds of the 1981 championship, in the team's final push for points.

As the highest ranked team with no points in their first F1 season, this has been a solid, if uninspiring debut year.

"To have two races where we finish 7th is a massive achievement. Tambay has done a fantastic job, however we are very excited to see what a driver with the experience of Jacky Ickx has to offer," said Ted Toleman when the announcement was made several weeks ago.

However, the team has failed to produce a second car at both the Montreal and Sebring events, leaving Jacky a less than impressed spectator.

But it seems the team finally have their second car ready, with journalists at Suzuka reporting seeing both Tambay's #22 plus a brand new chassis marked #23.

Whether this venture will yield any points is yet to be seen, however it appears the team are using this as a development exercise in preparation for running two cars full time in 1982.

Toleman are currently in 12th place in the constructor's championship, requiring at least 3 points if they are to overtake Ensign-Ferrari for 11th.

Figured I should roleplay something. And I'm avoiding doing work.
