NewF1 2013 Season - Reject of the Year Announced!
Radical changes announced to premier tiers of racing
Introducing NewF1, my zany idea of livening up Formula 1 and giving teams plenty to battle for at the top but also the bottom of the ladder with the introduction of promotion and relegation. Yes, you read correctly, the bottom two teams each season shall be relegated to GP2, with the two best teams from GP2 promoted to the premier competition.
Some of the other changes are as follows:
- HRT have been bought out by a non-disclosed investor, meaning they will take to the grid in 2013 (albeit possibly under a different name).
- To revamp qualifying drivers will only be permitted to run a lap each in Q1, Q2 and Q3.
- The MotoGP points system will be used (points down to 15th), so teams are not relegated due to a couple of fluke results.
- Pirelli have reduced the tyre compounds down to just three - dry, intermediate and wet. The dry tyre will be slightly different for each event meaning most races will be 2-3 pit stops.
The first season will see just the F1 season run - I'll consider adding GP2 for the 2014 season. Drivers will drive for the teams they began the 2013 season with, unless sacked by the team owner. Free agents or drivers in lower categories can be snapped up at any time, subject to my discretion.
I will use Excel to simulate races using a spreadsheet I have developed. It is extremely detailed and I believe pretty realistic as far as lap times go. It factors in fuel loads, tyre condition, safety cars and even weather.
NOTE: This is intended to be a long-running, slow-progressing season. Races take several hours for me to simulate (I have to input RNGs for each lap for each car) so if you want a race run every day, this isn't the series for you. I'm hoping to be able to at least have a race up every three weeks. But no promises.
However what I can promise is detail. Every driver has every lap simulated, which can be passed on to you. Need to know how much faster you were on lap 42 than the Caterhams? I can tell you. Want to know how many laps old your tyres were when you posted the fastest lap? I can tell you that too.
If you are interested in running a team, please indicate below. Note that who gets what team will be decided by a random number generator (like most other things in this series), so if you are dying to run Ferrari you might end up with Marussia.

Upgrades
Four times in the year (before Australia, Spain, Germany and Singapore) each team will have the opportunity to install upgrades on their vehicles. Only one parameter may be upgraded each time, aside from pit stops which you can do every time. I'm going to keep this pretty simple here, so the following upgrades are possible:
- Reliability
- Race Pace
- Qualifying Pace
- Tyre Life
- Pit stops (free)
When you have decided on which upgrade you would prefer, you can then choose how radical or conservative you would like it to be:
- Very conservative - very high chance of success, very small gains
- Conservative - high chance of success, small gains
- Standard - average chance of success, average gains
- Radical - low chance of success, high gains
- Very radical - very low chance of success, very high gains
Success or failure will be decided by RNG. Note that a bad failure may actually have the opposite effect to what you were hoping for, so choose carefully. Teams will also be advised of the degree of success or failure.
For example, Red Bull may wish to attempt to improve their tyre life. They don't feel they should be taking risks early in the season, so are opting for a conservative approach. As all teams can attempt to improve pit stops for free, they would also like to do this, and are going to take a radical approach to try and get ahead of the other teams on pit road.

No not that much, just a bit of driver management and decisions on vehicle upgrades at certain times in the season.
Onxy Wrecked wrote:I might sit on the waiting list if anyone vacates it, but I am interested in it!
OK, so basically you have the top GP2 2013 spot (which I'm not simulating), meaning you're assured of a spot in the 2014 season (as the bottom two teams will be relegated).

Done, you'll also get a GP2 spot that will be promoted in 2014.
Any others to join the waiting list will hopefully get spots in 2014 also as I'm planning to run GP2 races depending on the success of NewF1, and the waiting list will get first preference on those positions.
If I get a huge response, I will consider simulating the 2013 GP2 season also, but I would prefer to start small, unless anyone else is willing to help me out with running GP2.

Re: Introducing NewF1 - The 2013 Season
OK, time to decide who gets what team. Using the RNG, the following has been decided!
Red Bull - Hermann95
Ferrari - pycku
McLaren - kevinbotz
Lotus - Freeze-O-Kimi
Mercedes - pi314159
Sauber - peteroli34
Force India - good_Ralf
Williams - SeedStriker
Toro Rosso - FMecha
Caterham - takagi_for_the_win
Marussia - Ataxia
HRT - CaptainGetz (you have the choice to change the name of HRT, if you would like)
All other entrants are on the GP2 waiting list for 2014.
Next thing we need to work out is driver contracts. By default, the actual drivers that started the 2013 season are signed to your team one a one year contract, but will accept termination if you would like. If you would like to extend the contract, place your intentions below such as "I would like to offer Mark Webber a 3 year contract as a No. 2 driver". The RNG will decide whether you are successful or not.
If you are attempting to sign a driver that is not already on your team, you should make this known below also. You can make bids for as many drivers as you like, but order them in preference. Ensure you also note on your offer whether you are giving them a No. 1 driver role, No. 2 driver role, equal driver role or test driver role (you don't necessarily need to give them that role, though). Each team should sign at least one test driver as injuries (or even deaths) are possible.
NOTE: While you can't make an offer for a driver already signed to a full-time driver role for a team (unless he's been released), you can offer full-time contracts to test drivers for other teams.
Any questions? You have one week to submit your first round of offers, closing 24th October.

I've decided to pretend money doesn't exist in this series (although I may introduce finances if I feel the need later). Drivers will race simply for the prestige so pay-drivers will be a thing of yesterday.

Although the man certainly has talent, I would rather not get relegated this season. Therefore, Max Chilton will be demoted to test driver and we will offer the race seat to Timo Glock, Heikki Kovalainen and Jaime Alguersuari.

Re: Introducing NewF1 - The 2013 Season
Sorry I probably didn't make it all that clear, but don't forget to include in your offer:
1) The type of contract you are offering (No. 1 driver, No. 2 driver, equal driver or test driver)
2) The length of the contract
3) Any other clauses etc.
If I don't get that info I will just assume a 1 year contract as an equal driver.
Oh and just to illustrate my earlier point about test drivers, as Chilton has been demoted by Marussia to a test driver position he is now approachable for a full-time drive by other teams.
Carry on...

Re: Introducing NewF1 - The 2013 Season
Actually, sod those previous plans...Jules Bianchi will be partnered with Kamui Kobayashi; the former will be handed a two year deal whilst the latter would be given a year-long rolling contract subject to performance.
Max Chilton will be one test driver, and we will nab Tom Dillmann to be the second.

Re: Introducing NewF1 - The 2013 Season
Williams wants Rubens Barrichello to be the test driver for development of the car for 1 year.
As for actual drivers, while Pastor and Valteri have the first option, I like to ask for...
Driver 1: Felipe Nasr
Driver 2: Heiki Kovalinen
All contracts for 1 year contract.

Will it be a seperate series or will it be decided by RNG?
Looks like I don't have quite enough interest for running GP2 in 2013. For 2014, yourself and Onxy Wrecked will get whatever teams finish first and second in real life in the 2013 GP2 season (as they'll be promoted for 2014). If I have enough interest to run NewGP2 in 2014 then the other teams will be decided by RNG, with the bottom two NewF1 teams joining them.
Just waiting on CaptainGetz and Hermann95 to post their intentions and then I will run the first round of offers.
