Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2013 Japan

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Charles Pic's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until 18th

Nominations:

1. Esteban Gutiérrez - first points and a great drive
2. Romain Grosjean - had the pace to win, but the Lotus strategists did their usual job

HM. Nico Hülkenberg - another great performance, but we're getting used to this by now
HM. Mark Webber - faster than Vettel all race, unlike the rest of the season

1. Gutierrez - Finally decided not to be useless for once, and that's a nice chunk of points to take home with him.

2. Grosjean - Only person on the grid who challenged the RBs, and would have won if Lotus hadn't shafted him with the strategy they put him.

1. Esteban Gutiérrez Gutiérrez: Scored the first points of his career, becoming the first rookie to score a point this year. Very impressive, especially considering that he only started 14th.
2. Romain Grosjean: Could have won or at least finished second if not for another failed strategy by Lotus.

1) Gutierrez - I love seeing drivers improve when they're rookies and his racecraft is miles better now. Some great overtakes and defending too.
2) Grosjean - Have Ferrari gone for the wrong man after all? I bet Boullier's laughing his head off. Except he's French, so he'll be Gallic and ambiguous instead.

1) Esteban Gutierrez: Finally decides to wake up and get some points. Good job holding off Rosberg at the end.

2) Romain Grosjean: A podium isn't anything peculiar for Grosjean, but that start was - and he had potential to win, if his strategy had been worked out better.

1. Grosjean. There was honest hope of a first win.
2. Gutiérrez, seventh after no points at all is quite improbable.

In addition to what everyone said about Gutierrez, that was apparently his 1st visit to Suzuka. Suzuka of all places. FP1 was the first time he drove there... impressive.

Glad he bagged points, He was looking good in qualy a few times before the times got reshuffled, and he lost so much in Korea in the kerffufle following Massa's spin. He damned near did a Hulkenberg before Hulkenberg as he was into 6th after a great start and only yielded to his teammate at the very end of the straight to avoid contact. How unlucky because then Massa spun into Alsonso who jerked into Gutierrez who tagged Button...

I know i digress, but it could have been the other Sauber. What do you think the odds are of him holding back Alonso and Hamilton? :) I wonder...
