LGPS 1991-1993

1993

In late 1990, desperate for cash after his Formula 1 project failed, Ernesto Vita decided to sell the plans for both the chassis and engine of the L190 car. Initially there were no buyers. But in January 1991 a wealthy group of Swiss investors, bored with their country's ban on motorsport, decided to purchase these assets and contracted various engineering firms to start making copies of both the chassis and engine in preparation for a completely new single-make series.

Welcome to Life GP series!
Features:
  • Every team will run with the L190 chassis and Life W12 engine
  • Sophisticated car upgrade system (combination of my two F1C ideas, this and "Technical F1")
  • Driver skills & upgrades
  • Classic F1 tracks from the early 90s. I'll see if I can install other circuits as well.
  • Possibility of having almost completely different liveries within the same team
Right, time to make this real! I'll run this whenever I have the time, although thanks to the wonders of accelerated time (as I don't have to drive myself, and any possible highlights can be recorded from the replay) the races won't take me so long to run.

Livery templates:
http://www.mediafire.com/?l2vi9te690x39p8
Note that these templates are rough guides I made from the original BMPs based on trial & error. I've kept the original sponsors in so that you can see which texture goes where and which way around. The body template has one limitation of note: the airbox and the tops of the sidepods use partly the same area of the texture, so you can't put any big sponsor logos there and both must be of the same color. It is safe to change the flag and name of the driver, though (or you can place it elsewhere if you want). There are two BMPs included in the package (Bodylife1 and Radiatorbody) that are parts of the sidepods and should be of the same colour as the rest of them. Lifechassis and Lifecockpit are minor details from inside the cockpit - just recolor the red parts with the color of your choice. If you're unsure what to do, just give me the idea and I'll make something up.

Only fictional drivers, please!

Dave Wilson Racing
D1: "Dodgy" Dave Wilson (GBR) #5
Tyres: Goodyear

Dave Wilson, known as "Dodgy Dave" to those who know him, is a wheeler-dealer from the East End of London, who happened to "acquire" one of these fabricated Life chassis through a deal he made. With no better use for it than to take it racing, he entered himself into the Life GP Series. He's accrued some sponsorship through a couple of loan shark friends he knows, and as far as he's concerned, that's good enough to go racing!

Team Sandinista!

D1: Christopher Arthurs #19
D2: Richard Arthurs #20
Test Driver: Rachel Graham
Tyres: Pirelli

The Arthur brothers are lifelong fans of The Clash, and want to spread this fact through this new series (convienently forgetting the real meaning of the word Sandinista...). The elder brother Christopher's girlfriend Rachel will be handling testing duties, but is that all she'll be handling? It should also be known that the entire team is pretty...shady, shall we say. Little is known of their business dealings...

Livery-wise, as I can't do liveries on my laptop, could someone make a livery of pink and green (homage to the cover of London Calling) with THE CLASH written on the engine cover in white. No sponsorship for now...

Herbalife Racing
D1: Charles Jericho (#69)
D2: Danilo di Longo (#666)
T/RD: Baccus Young
Tyres: Goodyear

Herbalife Racing was formed after some bored Herbalife employees decided that sponsoring a racing team in a series comprising cars manufactured as "Life" would make perfect sense considering the name of the brand that employs him. However, no professional drivers would accept to drive those bins on wheels for a pittance, so they had to make some left-field choices. Charles Jericho is a youngster who was making a name for himself in the underworld crime and had some ability behind the wheel of a car, while Danilo di Longo is a friend of a friend of a distant cousin. Baccus Young appeared at a meeting at the house of one of the employees to deliver the mail and found himself recruited as the tes/reserve driver.

And no, despite the car carrying Herbalife sponsorship, Herbalife is not actually sponsoring the team.

Lots of Trouble Usually Serious. (Or L.O.T.U.S)
1.Danny Fernandez (3) GBR
2.Cave Armstrong (4) USA
Pirelli.

I would say eat my dust, but then that dust is probably engine coolant. So we decided to task some shed based engine company to build our engine for us, I am sure it will be competetive enough to win say the INDY 500 or something.

EuroBrum

#33 William Anker (German)
#34 Richard Richardson (British)
Pirelli Tyres

Called EuroBrum because it's based in Brum. The livery will most probably be a Ligier blue.

I'll do my livery tomorrow if I get the chance.

Du Vrai Sirop De Liège Trabant Rennsport the team racing with a German license (as by then Trabant were optimistic they could conquer the West-German market)
D1: Gio Van Dycke (BEL) (oh yes, he again!) #13
D2: Available
T/RD: Dimitry Vitkin (USSR, as Kazakhstan was not yet independent)
Tyres: Goodyear
If you would be so friendly to design my livery, i'd like it in the colours of Du Vrai Sirop De Liège. Also some Moneytron on the rear wing, as usual.

Life Of Namibia

Driver: Leonhard Von Gottorp (#264)
Test Driver: TBA (open for anyone willing to "enter" a driver)
Tyres: Pirelli

As with most things, the story of this team started with lots of booze. On the night of 21 March 1990, four teenagers celebrated Namibia's independence from South Africa and got their hands on a phone which they used to buy a Life chassis sold by a certain bunch of investors. Somehow, they got their delivery and thankfully the new gouvernment stepped in to pay the costs. Needing a driver, they went to experienced journeyman Leonhard Von Gottorp who celebrated his 50th birthday two months ago and was looking for another challenge after winning the Europa Cup Renault 21 Turbo in dominating fashion in 1989 and therefore was easily convinced.

Team James Davies

D1: James Davies (#17)
Tyres (Pirelli or Goodyear): Pirelli

In an attempt to prep himself for the 1997 F1RGP2C season, James Davies activated his time machine to try and find some random obscure racing series that he could compete in. How he wound up in 1991 with a Life chassis is anyone's guess.

Seriously, there's a team based on The Clash? Why didn't I think of that? Fine, I'll make a team based on The Ramones (don't worry, I still like The Clash better).

Rockets to Russia
D1: Danny Ramone
D2: Marky Howard
Tyres: Goodyear

After Team Sandinista! was announced, American punk rock fans formed their own team based on The Ramones. American driver Daniel Mallow adopted the name Danny Ramone and joined the team immediately; he was followed by his good friend Marky Howard (originally Mark Howard).

Some Racing Team Inc. Co. Pte Ltd.
D1:James Generic #1
Tyres (Pirelli or Goodyear):Pirelli

James Generic is this random guy off the street who just happened to propose to buy the Life chassis as a memento when he realised a racing series was going on,so he hopped on aboard.

Livery is...generic. My computer has issues wheneber it comes to paint,so I might have to request this:

All white livery.Black Helmet.Number one on nose and engine cover. Not even a sponsor in sight.
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Alright, 19 entries within a few hours! Just noticed that The Smokin' Engines and Psycho Soldiers Racing Team need to change their racing numbers, as #33 and #34 were reserved by EuroBrum before them. I'll get on working with the liveries now.

Theoretically, the amount of entries is unlimited because this is run on F1 Challenge 99-02. But for practical reasons I'll limit them to 35.

Entry list updated, I've put question marks into details which are not confirmed.

Good Call Racing are British :)

van der Maeyede will use the number 00
Braggia will use the number 9

I'll start work on a livery, although I can't promise art on that template! (not your fault I know.)

Anyone see what I did there?

I'm assuming that they are not actually cats...

Is it possible to run F1C in accelerated time and get correct results, though? I've always been under the impression that accelerated time in F1C was almost as innacurate as in GPM2 (in contrast to, for example, the GPX series).

Yes, if you press Ctrl+T during any session you can accelerate the time to 4X, but I've observed that the performances are still as accurate as on normal speed. Only if you press "Finish Session" (during practice and qualifying) or Esc (during the race), then the game generates the times with little respect to actual performance.

Oh, I had no idea of that! It would have helped so much with some championships of mine...

I forgot to mention my absolute lack of skills doing liveries, but, above all, the fact I don't have the tools required, will mean I need a livery designed, please. Just stamp some Herbalife logos on a white and green body.

Unfortunately, despite all of my efforts I couldn't make the car accept Pirelli tyres :( . I tried editing any and all MTS files that had a relation to that, but to no avail. So it looks like everyone's forced to use Goodyears.

Does F1 challenge use .mas files to store textures?

I have the feeling that I already asked somewhere, but nevermind: Is there a way to open .psd-files with paint.net?
