Ambrosiana will run Giannino Marzotto in our 3rd entry. We will also build a third chassis and purchase a new Alfa Romeo engine, both of which will be given to Bracco while Marzotto will receive Bracco's old equipment.

So that means for the US GP, the second car will be the Jag-Aston, which we will get repaired.

There's nothing left to repair, since Jaguar already did that for you :P

No problem, but I have to warn you that you're now below £40 000 in budget...

Well, that's an acceptable compensation for refusing to run a Belgian driver! Altough it's part of their customer care, still ENB remains the most prestigious historic privateer in the series!
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

September 11th 1953, Italian Grand Prix pre-qualifying

With two races remaining, the championship battle is close as ever. Tony Bettenhausen still leads by a single point from Reg Parnell, with Sanesi, Bira and Whitehead all following six points behind the American. Behind them, Trintignant, Manzon, Ascari, Fangio, Gonzalez and van der Lof still have a mathematical shot at the title.

41 drivers have shown up here at Monza for the Italian Grand Prix, and with 28 spots on the starting grid, pre-qualifying will return, knocking out five drivers before Saturday qualifying.

80. Harry Schell (Ferrari America) - Ferrari 550 chassis 2, Ferrari 550 engine 2
82. Toulo de Graffenried (Ferrari America) - Ferrari 550 chassis 1, Ferrari 550 engine

-Following Eric Brandon's engine failure in Switzerland, Mercedes withdrew from the remaining races, putting their chassis up for sale as they develop their 1954 car.
-Anglo Racing Engineering are in deep financial trouble now, and they are taking a big gamble here by bringing in 29-year-old local sports car driver Luigi Musso, who recently won the Giro dell'Umbria as well as his class in the Giro delle Calabria.
-Balkan Eagle finally managed to repair their third chassis and they return to a three-car formation with Gordini, Fischer and Maglioli.
-The Ferrari America side of Group Ultimate finally makes a return to the scene with the usual roster of de Graffenried, Ruttman and Schell.
-ENB decide to send only the Maserati to the Italian Grand Prix in the car's final race with the team. The chassis will be up for sale after the race.
-With both O.S.C.A.s rented for Sebring, the team fixed the second chassis and figured they might as well enter it at Monza for André Simon.
-David Hampshire has also convinced Aston Martin to repair his chassis, and he makes his way to Monza in order to salvage a potential good result.
-As usual, Scuderia Ambrosiana field a third car for their home race, this time for two-time Mille Miglia winner Giannino Marzotto, who makes his championship début.
-Luigi Villoresi steps back into the Asso di Fiori Aston-Jaguar for his and the team's home race. Dries van der Lof will be making the trip to Sebring instead.
-Assasti Millanti skipped the Swiss Grand Prix to come straight to Monza with John Fitch. Making the grid this time will be much tougher, but it's an acheivable goal.
-Warden finished their season in Switzerland and have returned to Birmingham.

And here are the 13 poor souls who will have to pre-qualify.

Johnny Claes
Luigi Musso
Lance Macklin
Günther Bechem
Umberto Maglioli
Paul Frère
Chico Landi
Duncan Hamilton
André Pilette
Giannino Marzotto
Lex Davison
John Fitch
Troy Ruttman

Only five of them will make it to main qualifying.

Did you mean 1954 when you were talking about Mercedes withdrawing to develop the car ;)

Yes I did :P Unless Mercedes are already planning far into the future and already have their cars for the next 50-odd years ;)

Pre-qualifying results
1. Troy Ruttman (Ferrari) - 2:02.31
2. Umberto Maglioli (Alfa Romeo-Maserati) - 2:04.16
3. Lance Macklin (Bentley-Jaguar) - 2:04.40
4. Johnny Claes (Leader-Mercedes) - 2:05.27
5. André Pilette (Maserati) - 2:05.56
6. Paul Frère (Maserati) - 2:05.72
7. Giannino Marzotto (Ambrosiana-Alfa Romeo) - 2:05.93
8. John Fitch (Leader-Jaguar) - 2:06.40
9. Luigi Musso (Leader-Jaguar) - 2:07.62
10. Duncan Hamilton (Maserati) - 2:08.25
11. Chico Landi (Maserati) - 2:08.74
12. Günther Bechem (Bentley-Aqua) - 2:09.94
13. Lex Davison (EMW-Mercedes) - 2:10.88

So not one, but two Maseratis make it through! Maglioli and Frère impress, as does Macklin. Marzotto barely makes the cut while Aqua will end their existence without a start, ironically at the same track where they almost made main qualifying last year.

Damn,at the rate Macklin's going, Reatherson Racing Developments may win a race for once!

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

In this late stage of such a close season, as much as we'd like our customer cars to do well, Jaguar would appreciate if our customer cars did their bit to help the JAMR works team win the drivers' championship with either Tony, Bira, or Maurice on an outside chance. Basically, that means don't take them out and don't try to steal points from them unnecessarily.

No great surprise at the very front, although Bracco doesn't quite punch as high as he usually does. Great performances by Taruffi, Barth, de Graffenried and Macklin but disappointment from Hampshire and Ruttman.

September 13th 1953, Italian Grand Prix

Sanesi completely fluffed his start and was passed by Manzon, while Moss and Marzotto made the best starts. At the start of the second lap, Villoresi lost control of his Aston while fighting with Rubirosa, ending up reversing into the pitwall. Race over. At the very front, the racing was very close behind Manzon, with the top five continuously exchanging positions. By lap 3, Farina was into the lead, a familiar position for him. Moss and Bira soon joined the titanic scrap.

While the double world champion increased his lead, the five drivers behind were slipstreaming past each other constantly. The pack later broke up with Sanesi and Serafini catching up, followed by Parnell, Bettenhausen and Bira. Farina would lead until lap 16, when Sanesi inevitably took the lead, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process. The large majority of retirements would occur in the following laps. First, Edgar Barth suffered from an oil leak out of 13th place. He was followed by teammate Troy Ruttman, whose gearbox broke on the following lap out of 22nd position. He was immediately followed by Stirling Moss' Alfa out of ninth place, now lacking a functioning transmission. Two laps later, Bracco retired from 12th with an oil leak similar to Barth's. A further two laps later, Trintignant span on Bracco's oil out of ninth place.

A few laps later, just when he had clawed his way back up into second place, Bira span on oil while lapping a group of backmarkers, ending his race on the spot. Farina and Serafini regularly switched spots, now for second place. On lap 36, Farina took second place once more. From then on, the race was pretty tame overtaking-wise. However, Tony Bettenhausen was beginning to gain more and more ground, needing more points to win the title. Marzotto's gearbox failed after a miserable race in last position.

Bettenhausen's charge would be the most entertaining even of the final laps. On lap 48, he passed his main rival Reg Parnell for fourth position. Six laps later, he was in third position, having passed Serafini. He was on Farina's tail for second place, but ultimately finished third, having been lapped by Sanesi, who won his third race of the season. Collins retired on the final lap with gearbox issues but was classified eighth.

A couple of other matters
Debt
Seeing as a few teams have dipped below £20 000, I will allow for teams to go into debt, with a few conditions:
-A team is declared bankrupt when it fails to get out of the red after post-season prize money is distributed or if it dips below the debt limit (explained later).
-In order to get out of the red, a team may sell a chassis and/or engine, so long as the sale is made BEFORE post-season prize money is distributed (the date will be determined in advance, so no excuses).
-A chassis or engine must be sold to another team. If no team wishes to purchase said chassis or engine, it may be scrapped. Scrapping a component earns you 10% of the component's building cost.
-The debt limit will be fixed at the amount of post-season prize money the team received the previous season.

Non-championship races
During the off-season, two non-championship races will be held in order to test new additions to the spreadsheet I'm using. These races will be held on the same day and will consist of the Syracuse Grand Prix and the Pau Grand Prix. Entries are not open yet, but I'm making the announcement now to leave time to plan your entries carefully. Because the races are held on the same day, no driver will be able to compete in both races. This is mainly to make my life easier :P

The calendar
As always, it's up to you lot to pick which races go on the calendar, and this time, you can also choose when they will be held.

The selection process will be carried out in three parts:
1) Each member can vote on 8 to 10 tracks he (I'm not aware of any shes active in the PMMF) would like to see on the calendar. Out of these circuits, three of them can be chosen as preferred circuits. These circuits get two votes instead of one. The 8 to 10 circuits with the most votes are retained.
2) Once enough votes are received, the circuits ninth and tenth by number of votes will be put up for a secondary vote where members may vote +1, -1 or abstain from voting for each individual circuit. At the end of the process, circuits with a positive score will be retained while circuits with neutral or negative scores will be scrapped.
3) Once the circuits have been determined, each member may state the order in which he would prefer the races to be run. After enough votes are received, the calendar will be set by the average position in which each race has been places.

If you have any further questions, just ask. By the way, the first phase of voting for circuits starts now.

I guess I'm allowed to vote, just as I'm about to have my second entry into this series (after my one-off for Helle Nice in 1950...)?

1. Silverstone*
2. Monaco
3. Bremgarten
4. Nurburgring
5. Monza*
6. Sebring
7. Spa Franchorchamps
8. Isle of Man*
9. Indy 500
10. Reims

* - preferred circuits.

1954 is still a season too soon to enter Pat Moss, isn't it?

Other circuits:

dr-baker, as much as I like Dijon, the circuit didn't exist in 1954.

RRAC would like to sell there Maserati's and plonk Hamilton in a 1953 title winning Aston Martin Jaguar if that is ok with the relevant parties?

Thanks

Edit:
Would it be ok if we offered Fangio another Aston Martin Jaguar?
Thanks

Ferrari are sacking Fangio with immediate effect, and will put Jack Brabham in the car in the US. He, Serafini and Parnell will race for Ferrari next season.

Also, ultimatum for Ultimate. Toulo de Graffenried is to drive Ferrari America's 555 at Sebring. If he doesn't, Ferrari's support for the team ends. In return, Ferrari will pay the travel costs of the 555 to Sebring.

I believe one Juan Manuel Fangio has just come on the market, Mr Brown. Failing that, there is one talented young Dutchman by the name of Dries van der Lof who I personally believe would do a fantastic job for the JAMR works team.

As far as JAMR's customer program goes, Jaguar will NOT be producing an all-new design for 1954, but will stick with the production of the proven JFE-2. We will reconsider this position for 1955 and beyond. As far as I understand, Aston Martin will probably stick with the same chassis as well, as there's little point developing an all-new car so early in the current chassis' development life cycle. For existing and new customers, the Jaguar engine program is structured as such:

    - A new engine will cost £25 000 from the factory, and £20 000 when bought in conjunction with a chassis from Aston Martin.
    - A new engine can also be leased for £3 000 per event, which will then be taken out of the purchase price of the engine should same customer wish to buy the same engine later on.
    - All Jaguar engines come with our comprehensive repair packages, regardless of whether they're owned or leased.
    - Our repair package will cover all repairs up to a value of £1 500, and 50% of all repairs above that amount afterwards.
    - Should a customer engine bought outright be deemed economically unviable to repair, the customer team can acquire a new engine at cost of production. This only applies when the previous engine has been damaged beyond economical repair. In all other circumstances of engine changes, customers are to pay the full purchase price.
    - Should a leased engine be deemed economically unviable to repair, that engine will be taken out of service and replaced with a new one immediately. The leasing payments continue as stipulated, but all existing payments for the previous engine will be taken off the eventual purchase price of the new engine.
    - All destroyed engines are to be returned to the Jaguar factory immediately, no questions asked. Jaguar will pay shipping costs for them.
    - Customer teams that own their engines can upgrade them at any time.
    - Jaguar will contribute £2 000 for a regular upgrade, and £4 000 a double upgrade, and all upgrades can be done at the Jaguar facility.
    - Leased engines will be upgraded periodically by Jaguar, free of charge. However, it is our discretion as to when they get upgraded.

The above obviously doesn't apply to the JAMR works team, and from 1954 will not apply to Asso di Fiori either, as they will be receiving a second Aston Martin-Jaguar car at cost of production for 1954 as our new semi-works team. Whether it'll be a brand new car or an ex-JAMR car is for Mr Brown at Aston Martin to decide.

roblomas52 wrote:RRAC would like to sell their Maserati's and plonk Hamilton in a 1953 title winning Aston Martin Jaguar if that is ok with the relevant parties?

That is ultimately up to Mr Brown to decide. However, I highly doubt ex-JAMR works cars will be up for sale at the end of 1953 due to all the developmental parts the works team have put into the chassis and engine over the course of the season.

Finally, here are Jaguar's votes for the 1954 calender, in no particular order:

1. Nürburgring Nordschleife (German GP)
2. Autodromo di Monza (Italian GP)
3. Circuit de Spa-Franchorchamps (Belgian GP)
4. Circuito di Pescara (Pescara GP)
5. Circuit de Monaco (Monaco GP)
6. Circuit Park Zandvoort (Dutch GP)
7. Circuit Bremgarten (Swiss GP)
8. Circuit de Reims (French GP)
9. Oulton Park (British GP)
10. Sebring International Raceway (United States GP)

I see the entry list still says 'TBA' for the second ENB car. The obvious thing would be putting Swaters in it, but as there's a big chance of qualifying, i want to take the risk to put Gendebien in the car.
The cars will have a black stripe, because sadly we lost Charles De Tornaco.

Also: we will continue running the Jaguar-AM and the Bentley cars in 1954. I would like to remind both teams that André Pilette is a very talented driver ;)
