Hirate charged through the field like expected, but I didn't expect he would finish second as his qualifying lap was only good for 8th quick and the rather poor starting position of 21st. Guidry managed to be well off pace, but he's an oval specialist and for him just to make the race is a challenge. Still no match for Natalie Ryder, but if Hirate had started in 8th he might have won it out right.

Edit #1,048,184 to the ZimSport schedule:
Zimmer - All road/street courses (except COTA, Donington and Watkins Glen), as well as Indy and Lausitz
Laurent - All ovals (except Homestead, Indy and Lausitz), as well as COTA and Watkins Glen
Stern - Homestead

ZimSport won't run at Donington, because all three drivers will be busy that weekend.

And you're editing this crap on the wiki yourself, by the way. I've gotten sick of doing it.

We move from Brazil to its south american archnemesis, Argentine. The Potrero de los Funes Circuit will host the 2nd round of the 2016 IndyCar season. Will Natalie Ryder continue with her suprisingly fantastic debut season? Or will her competitors strike back? Let's take a look at the free practice sessions:

But qualifying can be a different matter. Whereas drivers run up to 100 laps in free practice, they only have 12 laps at qualifying. If something goes wrong, one can only prey to qualify on the 1st qualifying session.

Once again a female driver for Cassidy Racing is on pole. But obviously, it ain't Natalie Ryder. 2015 Indy 500 winner Ashley Cassidy parked her Reynard-Honda at the front row. Rusty Gannit, the guy who arrived late at the last IndyCar season put his car alongside Cassidy. Andrea Bianchi also redeemed himself for his DNQ at Interlagos, by qualifying at his 1st attempt. But before we can go racing, we need to find the 11 cars that will fill up the grid:

We head straight to the race. IndyCar will run 51 laps around this 3.896 mile long circuit. So who will be the inaugural winner at the first ever IndyCar race in Argentine? Can Cassidy Racing make it two out of two? If so, will Natalie Ryder win her 2nd race, or can Ashley Cassidy add 20 points to her points? Or can someone else surprise us? We'll see:

Results of the YPF IndyCar Grand Prix of Argentine

Matteo Vasquez (NeoV Competition)                DNF lap 22

Once again, Cassidy Racing makes a non-spectacular start-finish victory in a race, which didn't see much overtaking. Therefore, we can quickly go to the points standings:

All this preseason stuff went to the drain for O'Lauchlan, but kudos for Lestrade's early pace

Meanwhile in Onyx... Finally Gachnang makes the field, but I have no idea how she got in the field while Guidry didn't. Kohei qualified strongly but some crash happened. I suspect that Matteo Vasquez crashed into Kohei from behind after pitting in. He might have been light on fuel and misjudged that Kohei was heavily laden with fuel as I know that Vasquez wasn't much faster than Gachnang in Q2.

Nice, two of my drivers on the podium. Of course neither of them are driving for me.

The IndyCar Series sets foot into the United States, with the Ford 300 from Homestead-Miami Speedway. This race will also start the road to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, which is less than two months away. So without further ado, let's go to qualifying:

1st Qualifying Session at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Code: Select all

 1 J. J. Davies (Hasselhoff Motorsport)              24.495
2 Ashley Cassidy (Cassidy Racing)                   24.518
3 Michael Robertson (Mastercard Lola)               24.702
4 Natalie Ryder (Cassidy Racing)                    24.718
5 Damon Cannon (Checkered Flag Motorsport)          24.730
6 Clint Hillman (Cassidy Racing)                    24.734
7 Claude Speed (Rockstar Engineering)               24.769
8 Martin van der Meyde (Michael Bright Racing)      24.776
 9 Vidal Reyna-Sanchez (Horizon Motorsports)         24.858
10 Jack Christopherson (Mastercard Lola)             24.892
11 Antonio Reyna-Sanchez (Horizon Motorsports)       24.910
12 Rafael Carlos (Aurico Autosport)                  24.913
13 Jules Vergne (Mastercard Lola)                    24.961
14 Dean O'Lauchlan (Euromotor International)         25.000
15 Lance Vance (Rockstar Engineering)                25.017
16 David Lee (Dreadnought Racing)                    25.039
17 Daniel Melrose (Horizon Motorsports)              25.042
18 Beth Lestrade (Euromotor International)           25.089

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 Ryan McReynolds (Michael Bright Racing)           25.113
21 Tim Horan (Restov Racing)                         25.162
22 Natacha Gachnang (Onyx Racing)                    25.169
23 Jose Maria Lopez (NeoV Competition)               25.171
24 Roy Guidry (Onyx Racing)                          25.173
25 Elinor Yurko (Tassie Racing)                      25.228
26 Kohei Hirate (Onyx Racing)                        25.231

37 Johannes das Schaf (Checkered Flag Motorsport)    25.912
38 Phil McCraken (Michael Bright Racing)             26.386

As with road races, 1.5 mile ovals see a maximum of 30 drivers on the grid. Therefore, 11 spots are remaining. By the way, a spectacular debut by J. J. Davies. While he won't do a full season campaign, he's already left an impression on everyone on the paddock. The other debutant, Mike Stern, didn't fare that well yet. But he has another chance at making the race.

30 Natacha Gachnang (Onyx Racing)                    25.347 (340.868 kph/213.042 mph)

A difference of 12 kph between the fastest and slowest car on the grid indicates a close field. Add the high attrition rate of oval racing and we're in for an exciting race. So let's go green:

Damn, finally got both cars into the race, and they dissapeared from it way fast! At least both Matteo and JM are qualifying...

Got all three in the race, but only Hirate finished. Gachnang almost made full distance, but a transmission problem seemed to end the race as I know she wasn't six laps down on the field and couldn't have been a lap ahead of Reyna-Sanchez based on the fact Gachnang was slowest in the field.

... yeah, I'm guessing that's what the DNF next to her name would indicate. :P

Indeed, although being steady enough to make it through the early race crash fest was a good sign. I suspect some sort of mechanical due to lack of pace. Could have had a double points finish if it wasn't for that. However a 10th and a possible 11th or 12th wouldn't be all that impressive.

L'Equipe wrote:Vergne to go stateside!

Nebula driver Jules Vergne has spent 2016 so far dovetailing his IFRC duties with racing in the F1RICS, occupying a seat stateside with the Mastercard Lola team. However, as Vergne has spent a few times this year being double-booked, the Frenchman will make the move full-time to F1RICS.

"I've really enjoyed racing in Indycars" said Vergne, "and because my results in IFRC haven't been so good I thought I'd try and extend my stay in America. Nebula have let me pursue that, and I thank them for that".

Nebula are actively seeking a replacement to partner British ace Quentin Reatherson.

This article made me look around for a few things on the wiki, and I found a problem. On the 2016 F1RICS page, Jules Vergne is listed as taking part in rounds 1-9, 11-14, 16-18 and 20-24. However, this is impossible to achieve because rounds 5 and 6 clash with the IFRC rounds of Australia and Mexico where Vergne also took part in and which have already been run.

Since the relevant F1RICS rounds have not been run yet, you can still fix this issue without a hitch. :)

We were already aware of this...I merely haven't confirmed the replacement for him yet. Also, it was updated in place of Torbani, who was originally set for those rounds and available for them.

Darren Older Jr will replace Jules Vergne whenever the latter is unavailable. He's a pay driver (just like his F1RWRS career then :) )

If we have the money, I'd like to get Ryan McReynolds' stats as close to 10/10/10 as possible.

Lance Vance must surely be unlucky, as his time would have landed him a top 10 spot in the 1st session! Elinor Yurko, who's qualified for every race so far also didn't make it this time. Before I come to the starting grid, let me say that street races will be run over 150 miles, instead of the 200 miles on regular road courses

Both Onyx entries that made the race finished the race with a top ten with Kohei Hirate and Guidry as last car running. Merely making the race is good enough for Roy though.

Unfortunately Collin and Michael didn't have such strong races today, but both have shown they are capable of winning, I expect they'll bounce back very soon.

Kohei Hirate is certainly a surprising winner here. But this race seems to have been a bit chaotic, so Hirate was probably racing smart enough to charge to his first IndyCar victory...after his fifth IndyCar race!

Onyx wins and former Onyx driver in second? Sounds good to me as a talent scout. Gachnang almost made it into Q1 just to have a mechanical issue in Q2 to end the weekend early.
More Moneytron, more problems for Onyx!

"This might be my last Indianapolis 500, but if we are competetive, I would consider returning in 2017", he explained. He has denied roumors that Mazzacane Motorsport is planning to return to american single-seater racing.

"No, there are no such plans, as we're busy with our RWRS programm, and we're planning to extend that programm in the future."

Commonwealth will be running a Reynard 13i chassis paired with a Honda engine. This leaves us with $12,000 for which to augment Mr. Mazzacane's skills.

Skill points will be allocated as following:

Acceleration: 6
Cornering: 3
Reliability: 3

This is it! The last step before the Indianapolis 500, the G.I. Joe's 200 from Portland International Raceway. The winning streak of Mastercard-Lola and Cassidy Racing has been broken, which caused other teams to look for their first victory. Squads like Rockstar Engineering or EuromotorInternational have been doing well so far, but couldn't turn their performance into victories. Can they do so today? We'll find out!
