Very good result for us; we really weren't expecting to finish, let alone score a point. Jose did a fantastic job, keeping his head on when drivers were spinning out and crashing all around him, so we'd like to thank him for a sterling effort at this 2016 Indianapolis 500.

Ryan McReynolds wrote:I had this race won... and then the engine blew. That's about it. Nobody was matching me on the restarts, or the long runs. So, of course Chevy lumber me with a defective engine...

Ashley Cassidy wrote:Damn, I really should've won that. I knew it was coming down to fuel mileage, so I was focusing on saving as much fuel as possible, so I didn't give Jack too much trouble off the restart, but he was a bit too fast for me to stay in range and save fuel. I guess he saved enough fuel earlier in the run, and I didn't. I need to start winning more races now, if I'm gonna get back into this title fight.

Brendon Cassidy Jr wrote:Ashley did a great job today, unfortunately, Lola outsmarted us on the fuel strategy, which is something we need to address. They're winning too much right now. But mostly, I'm incredibly pissed off with the officials, letting the oil on the track just stay there, on the racing line, on the entrance to turn 3! Natalie had a fantastic car and she was right in the fight for the win. But everyone up in race control must've been asleep, because we had drivers complaining for 4 laps that the oil on the track after Vasquez blew up was making the track totally undriveable in 3, and we get screwed over because of it. But then, I guess they have to wait until they're sure freaking Christopherson is going to have an easier time of it before then.
Sebastian Vettel wrote:If I was good at losing I wouldn't be in Formula 1.
Everything's great.
I'm not surprised about anything.

After the spectacular Indianapolis 500, the 2016 IndyCar season continues at the Milwaukee Mile. Not only does the series continue, but so does the rivalry between Mastercard-Lola and Cassidy Racing. Cassidy was furious about Lola snatching the Indy win away from them and they're looking to make up for that at Milwaukee. There are also others, who want to redeem themselves at Milwaukee. Martin van der Meyde for example, who went from winning at Portland to dramatically failing to make the field at Indy.

While the field has shrinked down a bit, 28 grid spots will be fought over on qualifying. But first the free practice from Milwaukee:

Lel, you fired something before he even had the chance to qualify on the 2nd session.

Re: 2016 F1 Rejects IndyCar Series season

Post by Ferrarist »

While the F1RWRS concludes their visit to North America at Road America, the IndyCar Series begins their visit in Europe with their inaugural race at Donington Park. Tickets have been sold out way in advance, even before British Jack Christopherson won the Indy 500 this year. But his victory at Indy contributed even further to the positive hype surrounding this race. Among the 34 drivers, who try to qualify for this race, four of them are British, including Christopherson. Now, how will free practice play out?

So far, Cassidy Racing's fast American ladies are setting the pace, but crowd hero Christopherson is close behind. But qualifying can be a different matter. For example: Brits Damon Cannon and Beth Lestrade couldn't even qualify for the last race at Milwaukee!

While there were plenty of battles in the midfield, the battle for the victory was boring. Ryan McReynolds drove to a start-finish victory, with a gap of 10 seconds over second placed Natalie Ryder. Jack Christopherson couldn't quite match a pace at the front, but he nonetheless tried to put up a good show for the crowd. Meanwhile, it seems like Michael Bright Racing has finally become a serious opposition to Mastercard-Lola and Cassidy Racing. How will this triangle continue? Only the Deutsche Post 500 at the Lausitzring can tell us!

Re: 2016 F1 Rejects IndyCar Series season

Post by Klon »

Alright, I decided to go back on my strategy of full retreat. Now I will do the exact opposite:
My team will purchase a third full-time car, to be driven by James James Davies.
Furthermore, the second car (driven by Aston until Indy) will return, driven by Kenan Ardaoglu (for which I will buy enough updates to get him back to 10-10-8).

Where rumours arise in the IndyCar paddock, the Dirttracker ain't far away to check these rumours. As such, the Dirttracker has heard some interesting hummings in the paddock at Donington, UK:

More International Races

It all but confirmed that IndyCar will greatly increase the number of international races, probably at the cost of lesser profitable races in North America. However, the only track that is rumoured to be on its way out is Toronto. Since IndyCar wants to hold at least two races in Canada, it is rumoured that Mosport will take over the 2nd Canadian IndyCar date. Gateway and Kentucky are also under close investigation, but series management wants to keep as many oval races in North America as possible. Therefore, the only way to expand into international market is to expand the schedule. IndyCar already holds 24 races and series owner Walther Williams thinks that 28 races is the absolute maximum.
But where will IndyCar expand? For once, the series wants 1-2 additional races in Europe. Monza in Italy is a hot favorite for a race, while the series is looking for another suitable location in Southern Europe. The races could be then held right before the Asian leg, as the weather is still good enough in that region. Speaking of Asia, the series has also the desire to add a race in China and a further race somewhere in South-East Asia. At the moment, China is building a 2-mile oval close to Beijing, the "Great Wall Speedway", which is rumoured to be build specially for IndyCar.
IndyCar also desires to hold a race in Africa, right after the South American leg of the season. Candidates are Kyalami circuit and the Phakisa Freeway, both in South Africa. With Phakisa being an oval, it seems to be in a favourable position right now. But some sections of series management actually desire a double header in South Africa.

American Ovals to return

IndyCar is also looking to bring back two American oval tracks. Phoenix International Raceway is very keen on hosting the IndyCar Series and negiotiations are in an advanced state. IndyCar also wants to return to Las Vegas, specifically the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. But there are some concerns about the high speeds that could reached on such an oval. It should be said that IndyCar races on the similar Texas Motor Speedway though, without any incident so far. But IndyCar officials have already a back-up plan, in case the oval race won't happen, as they have already evaluated the option of holding a race in the streets of Las Vegas.

Honda and Chevy dominance

There is a growing source of discontent about the dominance of both Honda and Chevrolet engines. So far, only one race winner did not have a Honda or a Chevy in his back, when Kohei Hirate managed to drag his Mazda Cosworth into victory lane at Austin. Among the most vocal opponents of the dominance is Horizon Motorsports, Ford's only customer in the IndyCar series. Seeing as they are struggling, their complaint is understandable. Ford is also aware of the duopoly of Honda and Chevrolet, as Jack Roush is rumoured to launch an improved version of the Ford EcoBoost V6 by the Michigan 500.
On the other hand, Toyota is evaluating its future in IndyCar, as they are also only supplying one team of the grid. They are rumoured to withdraw its resources from IndyCar, in order to focus on their entry in the ACO Le Mans Cup next year. Likewise, Mazda is disappointed with the performance of its SkyActive turbo diesel engine, which couldn't show much in the hands of ZimSport. It has shown some promise at the Indy 500 though, as Jiri Komarek managed to bring his car into the grid. Mazda is also rumoured to be in talks with Onyx Racing, who are still using the old Mazda Cosworth powerplants. They want to see their SkyActive engine in a race, as only race experience can give them enough data to continue the development of the engine.
But it goes without saying that the ongoing dominance of Honda and Chevy is unlikely to attract new engine manufacturers. Infiniti and Judd already shut down their IndyCar operations due to a lack of customers. IndyCar is currently running 3.0l V6 turbo engines, which is seen as good compromise between technology and raw power. While these regs are only in effect since the last season in 2015, IndyCar is already evaluating potential new engine regulations. One option could be to downsize the IndyCar engines, in order to curb the horse power. One wild rumours is the possible permission of naturally aspirated racing engines with a displacement of five litres, similar to the ones used in the LMP2 category. It is expected that IndyCar will announce their decision about the regulations for 2017 by the time the series returns to the United States after their European tour.

EDIT: @ Onxy Wrecked: If you're reading this, "Mazda" is hereby asking you to use their SkyActive engine. Don't worry, it's better than the normal Cosworth engine.

After their visit in Britain, the IndyCar Series makes their way to Germany. The Eurospeedway Lausitz, also called "Lausitzring", hosts the IndyCar Series in its current form for the second time. Much like the IndyCar race at Britain, this race has seen a lot of hype in Germany. So much hype that Opel decided to brand all cars that normally run Chevrolet engines as Opels. Opel has also been doing lots of promotional work for the "Deutsche Post 500 powered by Opel". The popularity of IndyCar in Germany is growing that much that rumours about a possible entry by another German manufacturer for 2017 have popped up in the paddock. Representatives from VW, BMW and Mercedes have been sighted in the paddock, who have been officially invited by IndyCar to attend the race. But for now, the talk is over as the drivers head for free practice:

As usual, Cassidy Racing dominates the free practice, showing off their superior performance in long runs. But qualifying, as usual, is a different matter. 34 cars will start the Deutsche Post 500, as qualifying is under way.

The performance of Hasselhoff Motorsport has been a bit underwhelming so far, but considering that they are using Panoz chassis, they are probably giving 110%. Although J.J. Davies performance in Q1 is surprising, as well as Jack Christopherson's and Claude Speed's! Let's not forget that Christopherson can still keep his chances for a 5m $ bonus, if he manages to win all 500-mile races this season.

This race was certainly eventful, even though front runners like van der Meyde or Pratchett had to retire in dramatic fashion. The crash between Lestrade and Gachnang also looked way worse than it really was, as both were able to walk away unharmed. In the end, Ryan McReynolds managed to win his 3rd race in a row, picking up more and more ground in the IndyCar championship. He's also proving that Michael Bright Racing is now really a force to be reckoned with. It was also good promotion for Opel, as one "their" rebranded Chevrolet engines won the race.

Will MBR's dominance continue, when the series return to the United States at Watkins Glen? Can Mastercard-Lola and Cassidy Racing strike back? Or can someone else stir up the battle at the front? Don't miss the next IndyCar race at Watkins Glen, to find out the answer!

I guess that'll help Komarek gain a bit of experience ready for next season. However, I do need Komarek on call just in case any problems befall my other drivers, so I reserve the right to pull him if there's a problem.

Fair enough deal then, actually though I will ditch Sam Baronomo and run Jiri Komarek for the rest of the season (or until he is needed)

This calendar is far from being final. For once, the series would like to cut down on the month of may, shortening it to mere two weeks, thus making room for a race on the first week of May. This could be essential in ensuring that the series can indeed end in November, instead of December. Meanwhile, the planned, and controversial, internationalisation of IndyCar goes ahead. But series owner Walther Williams has stated his desire to turn IndyCar into a world-class series, as he feels that the Indianapolis 500 should be part of such a world-class series.

New manufacturers coming?

Despite all the talk about the engine dominance of Honda and Chevrolet, new manufacturer are still evaluating their options regarding IndyCar. Representatives of BMW, Audi and Mercedes have been sighted in the paddock at the Lausitzring, officially because they were invited by series officials. At least one German manufacturer is interested in entering IndyCar, but only if IndyCar allows the use of a naturally-aspirated 5 litre V8 engine. Since Audi has ruled out an entry in open-wheel racing, due to their focus on sportscar racing, Mercedes and BMW stay in contention. Neither manufacturer has given a comment on a potential IndyCar entry, but given that a 5l V8 takes relatively little time in preparation, a potential manufacturer could wait a little bit with their confirmation of an IndyCar entry.

Another manufacturer that has been rumoured for a long time is Fiat. Since Fiat is going to sponsor an IndyCar in Italy, the speculation has been fired once again. There is only an odd problem: Fiat can't seem to decide on who to trust with building an IndyCar engine, since it has SRT, Abarth and Ferrari under one single roof. But a decision is expected shortly and it looks like SRT will get to make the IndyCar engine, since the majority of IndyCar races still take place in North America. The engine will also be entered as a "Dodge" in North American races, while branded as a Fiat elsewhere. But that is, if Fiat indeed decides in favour of IndyCar.

So Cassidy can run a Dodge engine again, like back in AltCART? Count me the hell in for that! :D

... just so long as it's title-capable...

After a successful tour though Europe, the IndyCar Series return to North America. The traditional Watkins Glen International track is host to the 12th round of this year's season. The question that is on everybody's mind is: Can Ryan McReynolds make it four in a row? Or can Cassidy Racing or Mastercard-Lola strike back? Or can another team break through and set their car onto winner's circle?

As usual, one can draw conclusions out of free practice and one cannot at the same time. It really matters on qualifying, where 19 cars will qualify on Q1 and 30 grid spots will be filled up on total.

It's a bit sad to see that Rockstar Engineering went from winning races to not making it past Q1. It's should be about time for Rockstar Engineering to do something, as their package has plenty of potential. Ryan McReynolds once again puts a good lap on the track, even though he's only second on the grid. Ralf Schumacher has also performed surprisingly well.

No real surprises here. Jose Maria Lopez still struggles in IndyCar and it remains to be seen, if his car owner has any more patience with him. By now, it should be known how the starting grid is composed in IndyCar, so I'll skip right to the race, which will go over 59 laps.

Even though qualifying pretty much decided the outcome of the race, there were plenty of battle throughout the entire field. Especially Pratchett, McReynolds and Gannit fought all-day for the victory. But since Watkins Glen doesn't offer that many overtaking spots, Pratchett could defend his lead all the way to the checkered flag. Collin Pratchett won Mastercard-Lola's 5th victory of this season, even though Aurico Autosport's performance was pretty encouraging.

Re: 2016 F1 Rejects IndyCar Series season

Post by Ferrarist »

The IndyCar Series continues its tour accross the Eastern United States at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, for the Hart's Beer 200. As with every IndyCar weekend in 2016, the question is, whether Mastercard-Lola, Cassidy Racing and Michael Bright Racing can keep up with their monopoly on the winner's circle. But oval races can be unpredictable at times, so we may be in for a surprise.

But another issue popped up that soon became the topic of the paddock. An unknown group called "The American Formula League, LLC" has sent a press release to the auto racing media, claiming to be launching an "alternate American open-wheel series" in 2017. IndyCar's response was short, but brisk. A series spokesperson claimed that all contracts for 2017 and beyond were "bulletproof". But more on that later. For now, let's go to free practice.

The free practice longruns show the same old picture. The "triforce" of IndyCar racing occupies the first positions. It doesn't look like someone else can break in at qualifying.

This is one hot front row for the Hart's Beer 200: Ashley Cassidy, who hasn't been lucky recently and Ryan McReynolds, who seems to have inherited her luck. Special mention should go to Kohei Hirate, who has finally shown some glimpse of the potential the Mazda SkyActive diesel engine has. Maybe he can do something from 5th position. The only real surprise of Q1 is Jack Christopherson not making it into the first half of the grid, but he should normally make it to the grid of 28.

Roy Guidry (Onyx Racing)                         DNF lap 16
Rusty Gannit (Aurico Autosport)                   DNF lap 2

The first caution of the race comes out after lap 2, as Rusty Gannit has a pretty nasty shunt at turn two. His car gets loose and crashes rearwards into the wall. He is taken to the medical center for a routine inspection, but he seems to be alright. This causes a long caution and as when the race resumes on lap 12, team mates Roy Guidry and Natacha Gachnang are heavily fighting each other. But they tangle at turn four on lap 16, which sends Guidry into the outside wall. Gachnang's suspension has also been damaged in the process, which causes two of the three Onyx cars to retire within a lap. Beth Lestrade retires on lap 38, while Michael Robertson retires on lap 42, both with mechanical problems. Then on lap 59, Jiri Komarek's car gets a bit slippery as he's just on his outlap on fresh tires. In combination wiht the relatively cold track (due to cold weather), this causes disaster, as he crashes into the outside wall of turn three. Ryan McReynolds, who drives right behind him is unlucky enough to catch a piece of debris. This cuts his right front tire open and sends him into the wall, too. This causes another long caution, which goes from lap 60 to lap 68. As the race resumes on lap 69, then race leader Ashley Cassidy suddenly pulls over to the outside. Smoke comes out of her car and she'll later confirm on TV that there was a sudden problem with the oil lines. Then on lap 71, another engine would expire as Kohei Hirate's Mazda blows up on the back straight.

The race goes on without a caution from lap 68 to 122. Then on lap 122, Dean O'Lauchlan spins as he goes into turn three. Unfortunately, Daniel Melrose, who drives right behind him, can't avoid him anymore and crashes into the rear of his car. But it's a little wonder that both men can get out of their cars on their own. Still, they are brought to the medical center, for a further check on their condition. Meanwhile at the top of the field, the usual suspects are fighting for the lead: Michael Bright Racing's Martin van der Meyde battles with Mastercard Lola's trio of Jack Christopherson, Collin Pratchett and Jules Vergne. Meanwhile, Cassidy Racing's Natalie Ryder has fallen a bit back, while Hasselhoff Racing can be at least happy, as Ralf Schumacher is still in contention for the victory. After the caution due to the O'Lauchlan-Melrose accident, the race would have resumed on lap 133, but Jules Vergne's car suddenly stops running and he has to park his car at the outside of turn two. But when the caution ends on lap 136, the race goes on pretty eventless for the rest of the 200 laps, as the field spreads out. Therefore, Jack Christopherson can race to a relatively easy victory for Mastercard-Lola.

After rumors spread that the IndyCar officials will not honor Aurico Autosport's withdrawal from IndyCar series over bankruptcy inflicted from their loss of Pennzoil title sponsorship and loss of their F3RWRS and GT-R World Championship teams, two teams, Escher Racing, founded by Canadian Kevin Escher when he left Aurico Autosport during the scandal outbreak that disgraced the team, as well as Techcraft, founded by former Japan F3000 team prinicipal Asuka Kuwashima, has announced that they had secured a partnership with the ailing American team. Andrew Ulrich, the founder and team principal of Aurico Autosport, has said that he "has welcomed the partnership", despite his and the co-founder (as well as co-team principal) Rick Osborne statement that "the damage is already done".

The deal, which will go until the end of the 2016 IndyCar season, is expected to secure Rusty Gannit's, Jeremy MacMillan's, and Rafael Carlos' IndyCar career for this season. As a result, the team will be referred as Aurico Autosport with Techcraft and Escher Racing for the rest of the season.

Additionally, Pennzoil, which remained their commitment to Aurico Autosport as a technical partner, has stated that they would extend their technical partnership and even handed out the possibility of reinstating Aurico's title sponsorship with them.

*publicocrap from Pennzoil follows*

:) (In this canon, Techcraft is merely a Japan F3000 and JTCC team in the 90s)

It's round 14 of the 2016 IndyCar Series and it's time for the traditional Michigan 500. This 500-mile race may not have the history of the Indianapolis 500, yet it has seen some memorable races over it's lifetime. Now the stars of the IndyCar Series are back and ready to tackle this race. But even moreso than Indy, endurance and reliability is the key in this race, as the attrition is often high at Michigan. 40 entries try to get one of the 34 grid spots for these. Among them are Horizon Motorsports, who saw three out of their four cars not qualifying for their race at New Hampshire. But Ford has reacted and launched an improved version of their engine for the Michigan 500. It remains to be seen if Ford can close up on Honda and Chevy, though.

No real news at the front of the grid. It seems like the improved Ford still can't match the speeds of Honda and Chevrolet. Also: Only three cars in the top 10 are not from Mastercard-Lola, Michael Bright Racing or Cassidy Racing. After 14 races, that much can be said, IndyCar is becoming almost "boring" at the top. But maybe qualifying can shake up things a little:

The race goes on smoothly for the first six laps, but Jiri Komarek brings out the first caution of the day, when his new Ford engine expires right after turn two. A bad omen? The race resumes shortly thereafter and runs caution-free...until lap 16. Jose Maria Lopez gets slippery after turn two, which may have been caused by the oil spilt by Jiri Komarek's car. Lopez loses control of his car, and crashes into the inside wall. Luckily, he wasn't so fast when he crashed. While the track is cleaned up during the caution, Vidal Reyna-Sanchez comes to the pits with a terminal engine failure. So two Fords have already given up after almost 10% of the race. Then, ABC's cameras catch Ford representatives talking with Tassie Racing and Horizon Motorsports. All of a sudden, the remaining Ford-engines IndyCar pull over to the pits and retire with immediate effect. Here's one of the Ford execs, giving an interview to ABC's Vince Welsh:

Vince Welsh wrote:"I'm here with Paul Rocchi, the head of Ford's IndyCar program. Mr. Rocchi, why did the Fords pull out?"

Paul Rocchi wrote:"Vince, we discovered that we, and I emphasize the WE, have likely made a mistake, when modifying our engines. As we investigated Jiri Komarek's engine, we found out that a part, we've build into every engine, was very light and thus easy to break. After Reyna-Sanchez's retirement, we decided to advise our partners to pull out their remaining cars."

Vince Welsh wrote:"Has that any consequences for Ford's IndyCar program?"

Paul Rocchi wrote:"We don't know."

Vince Welsh wrote:"Thanks Mr. Rocchi for stepping in front of our camera and back to you, Paul!"

The race resumes on lap 21 and there are only three retirements before the next caution period: Beth Lestrade (lap 24), Damon Cannon (lap 54) and David Lee (lap 58). Then on lap 65, Jeremy MacMillan has a nasty shunt. As he goes into turn one, his car gets loose. In the process, he hits the outside wall head on! The entire front part of his car is destroyed, but he can miraculously climb out of the car on his own. He's still brought to the medical center for a routine check, though. After MacMillan's car is removed from the track, the race resumes once again on lap 75. The race goes on without incident until we've almost reached the half-point. Martin van der Meyde pull over to the pits on lap 123, as a result of gearbox failure. Then on lap 147/148, we witness another heavy accident. Claude Speed tries to lap Veronika Asimov, but Asimov doesn't seem to see the blue flags. As both go into turn 4, Asimov gets into Speed's path, sending him right into the outside wall. While Asimov initially crosses the finish line, Speed doesn't seem to be moving. He is rescued out of his car and after a short examination at the medical centre, he's flown to a nearby hospital. This is Speed's second heavy accident in a relatively short time. His last heavy accident was at the 2015 race at Kentucky. Veronika Asimov meanwhile retires with a broken front suspension in the pits.

After the race resumes on lap 160, things take another turn for the worse...at least from the viewpoint of Cassidy Racing and Mastercard-Lola. On lap 162, Jack Christopherson retires with another mechanical failure. Then on lap 167, things get worse for Cassidy Racing, as Ashley Cassidy crashes out at turn three. But this wasn't to be the last accident of the day. We've already seen plenty of accidents, which left some debris on the track. While the track was always cleaned up after a big crash, some parts can go unnoticed. Such was the case when Roy Guidry cuts his left rear tire open on the backstraight. He has a violent spin to the inside and crashes sidewards into the inside wall. Another caution flag is waved when all of a sudden, IndyCar race control summons the team directors for a conference. There, it is decided to stop the race after 200 laps, due to "safety concerns". The large numbers of crashes, coupled with the remaining uncertainity of Claude Speed's condition have led IndyCar to stop the race prematurely. In fairness, it should also be mentioned that a thunderstorm was on its way to Michigan International Speedway. Therefore, after 200 laps, the results look like that:

After this controversial and eventful race, some questions remain. The most important question is about Claude Speed's condition. Luckily, Speed hasn't suffered any grave injuries and has been cleared to run at the next race, which is in two weeks anyway. The other question is about Ford's participation in IndyCar racing. It remains to be seen if Ford will continue in IndyCar. We'll surely see some answers over the next weeks.

We signed with Ford at the beginning of the season as a works team in the hope they would lead us to victory this year. However, their entire engine program has been an absolute joke this year. We lost three cars at New Hampshire before the race even started with the old-spec, and now this. You'd think that such a large organisation would know how to build an engine that isn't utter rubbish. Either they shape up or we're outta here. We already have a BMW 3.0 V6T test mule in the MRT engine workshop back at Cologne on the dyno for a potential future either here in America or somewhere in Europe.

Mazda has a powerful, but fragile engine... The problem is that Hirate was already down a cylinder after final practice. That being said, the engine was reliable enough to make well pass mid-race before the giving up the ghost in Hirate. Guidry crashed on debris some 18 laps later and the marginal driver in Gachnang in 12th although it's safe to say she's out of her element on ovals.

ESPN Sport wrote:Second Draft IndyCar Calender Release

Just weeks after a first IndyCar calender draft was leaked to the media, it seems that a second draft calender has started making the rounds in the paddock at Michigan. Allegedly drafted with the help of Horizion owner Daniel Melrose, the new look 29-race draft is scheduled to start on February 12th, but will finish on November 12th thanks to clever race rescheduling, rather than the original December 3rd finishing date of the original draft.

Code: Select all

1. Sasol Grand Prix of Durban - Durban Street Circuit: Feburary 10-12
2. YRT Grand Prix of Argentina - Potrero de los Funes Circuit: Feburary 24-26
3. Brahma IndyCar Grand Prix of Brazil - Autodromo Jose Carlose Pace: March 3-5
4. Ford EcoBoost 300 - Homestead-Miami Speedway: March 10-12
5. United Airlines Texas 300 - Texas Motor Speedway: March 24-26
6. Miller Light 200 - Phoenix International Raceway: March 31-April 2
7. Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach - Long Beach Street Circuit: April 7-9
8. G.I Joe's 200 - Portland International Raceway: April 21-23
9. Iowa Corn 300 - Iowa Speedway: April 28-30
10. Texaco Grand Prix of Texas - Circuit of the Americas: May 4-7
11. 101st Indianapolis 500 500: May 10-28
12. Miller Light 200 - Milwaukee Mile: June 2-4
13. Tesco IndyCar 300 at Rockingham - Rockingham Motor Speedway: June 16-18
14. Total Grand Prix of Belgium - Circuit Zolder: June 23-25
15. German 500 powered by Opel - EuroSpeedway Lausitz: June 30-July 2
16. FIAT IndyCar Grand Prix of Italy - Mugello: July 7-9
17. Pennzoil IndyCar Grand Prix of Baltimore - Streets of Baltimore: July 21-23
18. Budweiser Grand Prix of New York - Watkins Glen: July 28-30
19. Valvoline New England 200 - New Hampshire International Speedway: August 4-6
20. Pocono 500 - Pocono Superspeedway: August 11-12
21. Molson Indy Montreal - Circuit du Gilles Villeneueve: August 25-27
22. Molson Indy Toronto - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park: September 1-3
23. Michigan 500 - Michigan: September 8-10
24. Bosch Grand Prix of Road America - Road America: September 15-17
25. Honda Grand Prix of Japan - Suzuka International Circuit: September 29-October 1
26. Huawei 500 - Beijing Motor Speedwat: October 6-8
27. Holden Grand Prix of Australia - Surfers Paradise Street Circuit: October 20-22
28. Mazda Grand Prix of Monterrey - Laguna Seca: November 3-5
29. California 500 - Auto Club Speedway: November 10-12

Compared to the first draft calender, a raft of alterations have been made, chief of which has been the rumoured dropping of the penultimate round at Las Vegas to make room for two races at Iowa in April, and Baltimore in July after the European tour. Many other races have been rescheduled, including the round at Texas Motor Speedway being moved from late-November to late-March, and several of the American and Canadian races being reshuffled after the European tour.

On the international front, the opening trio of races have also changed, with Durban now tipped to hold the season-opening race amongst fears that upgrades to the facilities at Phakisa Freeway are running behind schedule and over budget, while the two South American races have been swapped on the calender. Even the European tour didn't escape unscathed, with the Italian round being moved to early July at Mugello, Rockingham being favoured as the venue for the British round yet again, and growing rumours that the French event may be dropped in favour of Zolder.

This type of attrition reminds me of the early 1990s and late 1980s.

Kenan Ardaoglu's stay with Volks.Racing is already over, he will go to the IFRC and his place will be taken by young Janneau Esmeijer from the Netherlands (stats 6-6-6).

After a gruelling Michigan 500 (Or "Michigan 400", as it has been mockingly called among racing fans), the IndyCar Series heads for Toronto, Ontario. The Molson Indy Toronto is rumoured to be the last IndyCar race from Toronto, as the series is rumoured to move to nearby Mosport track for 2017. In any case, we can expect the IndyCar teams to put up a good show at Toronto nonetheless.

For all the deserved flak Ford has gotten for the Michigan disaster, it should noted that the Ford teams did improve a bit. Daniel Melrose's 11th position may put him in contention for a good points finish.

Natalie Ryder finally brings Cassidy Racing back to victory lane and strengthens her lead in the IndyCar series. Also noteworthy is another accident by Claude Speed. Luckily, his collision with Jack Christopherson wasn't as hard as his crash at Michigan. Other than that, this race was pretty uneventful.

IndyCar from Road America follows right afterwards...which mean tomorrow! :p

Re: 2016 F1 Rejects IndyCar Series season

Post by Ferrarist »

After a brief visit to Canada, the IndyCar Series returns to American soil and it's what some call "The finest race track in North America", Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The championship battle is fully under way and Road America will surely test those, who aspire to become the 2016 IndyCar champion.

What a brilliant drive by Natalie Ryder and what a disaster for Ryan McReynolds! We've seen much better performances from him in this season, so something must have been wrong with his car. If it was, it should be even more amazin that McReynolds managed to drag his car onto the grid. Can McReynolds rebound at the Pocono 500, or can Cassidy's Natalie Ryder pull away further? That remains to be seen at the next race, the Pocono 500!

Finally a new IndyCar race. Note that planned upgrades can only be applied after the Pocono 500, as I've already ran that race.

After a spectacular race at Road America, the IndyCar Series returns to the oval. The 1.5 mile Kentucky Speedway presents an appropiate challenge before the gruelling Pocono 500. Without further ado, let's jump right into the action!

Since the battle at the top is more or less the same, let's talk about the high speeds instead. Natalie Ryder's times were both in the region of 228mph. In contrast, Johannes das Schaf's time was in the region of 216mph. But a speed of 216mph shouldn't be enough to make the 30-car grid at Kentucky Speedway.

After the negative headlines of the last oval race at Michigan, the Jack Daniels 300 will surely bring positive headlines for IndyCar. Jack Christopherson and Martin van der Meyde fought all day with each other and almost lapped the whole field. It surely helped them that their competitors from Cassidy Racing had a very bad day, with Natalie Ryder and Ashley Cassidy not even making it past the half of the race.
But once again, it's been shown that Mastercard-Lola, Michael Bright Racing, Cassidy Racing and perhaps Hasselhoff Motorsport were a class on their own. If IndyCar wants to uphold equal chances for every team, they may have to react soon enough.

Re: 2016 F1 Rejects IndyCar Series season

Post by Ferrarist »

After the very exciting race at Kentucky Speedway, the IndyCar Series heads for its longest day. The Pocono 500 from the traditional track that is located inside the Quaker State. Not only will it be IndyCar's longest day, but also its biggest day, as 38 cars will take the green flag. The fact that 40 cars are competing for the grid spots, will leave those two cars that can't qualify even more unhappy.

While the "big 3" once again lock out the front positions, the gaps between the drivers are very slim. Will qualifying be that close, too?

Despite Cassidy and Speed having a relatively large gap over the rest of the field, it was a very exciting five-car battle between positions 3 and 7. Special mention should go to Antonio Reyna-Sanchez's good performance, rehabilating Ford a bit in the process. Aurico's Rusty Gannit was also well in the mix.

According to our sources within the team, David Hasselhoff has sold his IndyCar team to John Laurinaitis. The former professional wrestler has announced that RWS1 team People Power presents Holden CR Motorsport will abandon its RWS1 operation, looking for entries in other series.

According to the official homepage of Avis Michael Bright Racing, the team has traded Al Unser III to bild-english.de Hasselhoff Motorsport in exchange for the services of James James Davies. The deal is rumoured to give Hasselhoff additional financial strength in face of the rumoured sale to CR Motorsport and improve the performance of MBR. Rumours say, Ralf Schumacher's 2017 contract is in some form or fashion involved in the deal, but no official statement has been made on that yet. So far, none of the drivers involved in the trade were available for comment.
