In addition to this being the 50th win for Toleman/Benetton/Renault/Lotus/Alpine, this is only the 2nd time car 31 has won a race, first time was Austria 1972 with Emerson Fittipaldi.

And think of all the famous Reject teams that have carried the number 31 since that time: LEC (1977), Martini (1978), Rebaque (1979), AGS (1986), Coloni (1988-91) and Simtek (1994) - as well as the not-Rejects-by-the-barest-of-all-margins, Ensign (1975), Osella (1980-83) and ATS (1984).

It sticks out even more than 14, which at least had its time in the sun from 1996-2013 when Sauber, Prost and Red Bull would grab a podium or two with it, before Mark Webber did the once-unthinkable in 2009.

Ensign scored more than enough points in 1977 alone, ATS just escaped, Osella would have escaped if Jo Gartner had been eligible for points in 1984.

Here's to another half-century of wins for Team Enstone

Half a century, that's not so far away: Kimi Raikkonen could be driving for them by then :deletraz:

He already contributed 2 of the first 50.

McLaren have just ended the 2nd longest win drought in F1 History at 171 races, only Ligier had to wait longer, discounting teams that left and came back.

Otherwise, I imagine it would be Mercedes that would easily hold that record.

Mercedes hold so many hilarious gap records. Almost a shame Alfa had that return in the 1980s....

Almost a shame that Alfa also had a return in the 2020s by that reckoning!

Mercedes do hold the record for the longest winless streak but for teams that didn't disappear then come back again, Ligier holds the record, McLaren now has the 2nd longest.

I wondered when/if there was a season where no driver managed consecutive wins...surprisingly enough the last time this happened was in 1974

Even in 1982, where there were 11 winners in the 16 races, this did not happen, as Alain Prost won the first two races

(Apologies if this has been covered already)

Without Belgium giving points, Williams would be on 13 points against Alfa Romeo's 11. What a fight for the ages that would be going into the final rounds. Echoes of Paul Stoddart at Indy 05...

I can’t claim this one, I read it on the Twitter but…

Max Verstappen is the first F1 champion since Lauda in ‘84 to have never raced with Michael Schumacher.

Fascinating.

With Hamilton not winning in Silverstone, he has now extended his longest ever streak without winning a race. It is now 11 races.

It’s also the deepest he’s ever gone into a season without winning. Previously it was 9 in 2009 and 2013.

For the 2nd race running a driver celebrating his 150th start qualified on pole in the wet and won the race. It also amused me that the 2 drivers with the longest waits before a first win finished 1-2 yesterday. Sainz and Perez had 338 races between them before claiming that win.

Only 15 F1 World Championship races were held before the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II began, and the 2022 Italian Grand Prix will be the first race since the 1951 Spanish Grand Prix at Pedralbes to be held with a King on the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Related to that, Jose Froilan Gonzalez is the only driver who has won British GP under King and Queen. In few years we see if Alonso, Hamilton or Sainz can do the same. Those three are the active drivers who can do it. Vettel also has won British GP but as we know he is retiring.

By the way, no driver won Monaco GP under the reign of Rainier III and Albert II.

This is the first Grand Prix to have two Dutch drivers race since Brazil 2006 and the first ever to have two Dutch drivers in the points.

Also Nyck de Vries is the first driver to score points in car #45 and that includes Indy 500 entries.

Nyck de Vries is also the 1st Dutch driver to score points on debut. Gijs van Lennep and Max Verstappen came close as both scored on their 2nd starts.

This is also the first season to have two drivers score points on their debut since 2015.

At the risk of jinxing it, Max Verstappen could become only the 3rd driver to secure the title with 5 or more races to go in Singapore, all of which coincidentally taking place in a year ending with 2!

The other two presumably being Nigel Mansell in 1992 and Schumacher in 2002?

Nah, in situations like this, it's good to jinx it a bit in the naive hope that it makes the championship a tad more exciting.

Right, surely lightning can't strike twice with regards to Max Verstappen sealing the 2022 title, if he does then this will be the first time since 2011 that the title has been sealed at Suzuka and the 12th in all. It will be the 14th time the title has been sealed in Japan if you include Fuji 1976 and Aida 1995.

With Nicholas Latifi finally breaking his 2022 points duck in Suzuka, 21 drivers have scored points in 2022, the most since 2005. (There still would have been 21 point-scorers even if you exclude Indianapolis as Tiago Monteiro scored a point on merit at Spa).

Malaysian GP 2012: Qualifying session

There were six current or former World Drivers' Champions and as a bonus one eventual World Drivers' Champion in the Top 9 positions.

1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Jenson Button
3. Michael Schumacher
4. Mark Webber
5. Kimi Raikkonen
6. Sebastian Vettel
7. Romain Grosjean
8. Nico Rosberg
9. Fernando Alonso

2012 is still the only season to have six WDC's on the grid,
and they were all inside the Top 9 only once (qualifying and/or race results).

There were various points in the sixties and seventies with eight at the same time, the most recent being the 1980 Italian GP, which had Fittipaldi, Andretti, Scheckter, Jones, Piquet, Rosberg, Prost and Mansell. None of them qualified in the front two rows. :deletraz:

I was looking around a bit and found the 1966 season to be fairly interesting,
because that year the top 7 in the final standings were all world champions past, present or future
and that many in a row has not happened before or since:

1. Jack Brabham 42p
2. John Surtees 28p
3. Jochen Rindt 22p
4. Denny Hulme 18p
5. Graham Hill 17p
6. Jim Clark 16p
7. Jackie Stewart 14p

Found this on Autosport forum:

* Fernando Alonso was younger than Max Verstappen when comparing ages on the day they clinched 1st title
* Max Verstappen was younger than Fernando Alonso when comparing ages on the day they clinched 2nd title

This happened even though both drivers won their 1st and 2nd titles in consecutive years.
