Restov Racing is accepted, as there's no one else on the entry list :)

1979 Canadian Grand Prix

This was the first race to be broadcast over a live chat, so there wont be a full report. Thanks to everyone who attended.

Qualifying

Image

Scheckter lined up on pole for the second time in as many races, ahead of Arnoux, Villeneuve, and McAllister. The Ligiers showed improved pace, Rebaque impressed, and without Jenkins both Fittipaldis, boh ATSs, Sedlak, and Gabbiani DNQd.

Race

Image

Image

The biggest crash of the year occured on the first lap, where Rene Arnoux put a wheel on the white line approaching turn 4 and spun through the corner into the outside wall, collecting McAllister and Takagi. Lauda, Prost and Lees were caught up in the incident, while Harvey Jones and Jan Lammers had to pit for a new rear wing and front wing respectively. Brancatelli, Rossler, and Patrese had a sepeate incident further back, and the resulting mess of both crashes brought out the safety car for the first time this year.

Scheckter still lead from Villeneuve, and when the safety car came in, he pulled away from Villeneuve and stayed there till the end of the race. Kevin found himself 15th after the restart, but put in 60 laps of determination and speed to finish 14th, while Alan Jones managed to get on the podium for the second time this year.

Driver's Championship-After 15 rounds

With 2 rounds to go, Laffite, Arnoux, and Kevin are covered by just 3 points, ensuring that all 3 men will remain in contention as long as they score.

1: Ed Kevin - 63
2: Rene Arnoux - 62
3: Jacques Laffite - 61
4: Jody Scheckter - 44
5: Gilles Villeneuve - 40
6: Callum McAllister - 38
7: Harvey Jones - 34
8: Carlos Reutemann - 28
9: Alan Jones - 26
10: Jan Lammers - 24
= Nelson Piquet - 24
12: Jean-Pierre Jabouille - 19
13: Hiroshi Takagi - 17
14: Guilliame Gauthier - 16
15: Gianfranco Brancatelli - 13
16: Stefan Bellof - 12
17: Mario Andretti - 9
18: James Hunt - 6
= Alain Prost - 6
= John Watson - 6
21: Keke Rosberg - 5
22: Andrea de Cesaris - 4
= Geoff Lees - 4
= Derek Daly - 4
= Kieran Sutherland - 4
= Roberto Horford - 4
27: Niki Lauda - 3
28: Riccardo Patrese - 2
= Piercarlo Ghinzani - 2
= Padraig O'Connell - 2
31: Thomas Nurmester - 1
= Davey Clarke - 1
= Simone Guidetti - 1

Constructor's Championship-After 12rounds

In the constructor's championship, Ligier pull further away, with a 22 point advantage over Ferrari, who still remain mathematically in contention. Lotus are only 6 points away from overhauling Williams Ford, with Williams Honda recording only their second score. Further down the table, Brabham overhauled McLaren, Shadow now have more points than Tyrrell, and Alfa Romeo now have double figures. Jenkins' folding means that they end their short spell in F1 without a point, while only Ensign, Fittipaldi, and ATS have yet to score.

1: Ligier-Ford - 124
2: Ferrari - 102
3: Williams-Ford - 62
4: Lotus-Ford - 56
5: Renault - 47
6: Ram-Ferrari -30
7: McLaren-Ford - 29
8: Brabham-Ford - 27
9: Shadow-Ford - 23
10: Tyrrell-Ford - 22
11: Williams-Honda - 20
12: Alfa Romeo - 10
= Arrows-Ford - 10
14: Wolf-Ford - 8
15: RAM-Ford -5
16: Rebaque-Ford - 4
17: Merzario-Ford - 1

There's still two races to go but feel free to vote on which tracks will appear in 1980. The Irish GP at Mondello Park is confirmed. You can vote for a maximum of 8 tracks! Vote away!

Tracks that receive 2 or more votes will be considered for the calendar. Remember, you can vote for ANY track in ANY country! Any one can vote for tracks, but I would like all team owners to pitch in with their selections (you know who you are... TMLW, a wake up call in case you forgot!)

Mondello Park (Irish GP) - CONFIRMED
Monza (Italian GP) - 5
Dijon-Prenois (French GP/Swiss GP) - 4
Vallelunga (Italian GP) - 4
Hockenheim (German GP) - 3
Bathurst (Australian Grand Prix) - 2
Donington Park (British GP) - 2
Imola (San Marino Grand Prix) - 2
Silverstone (British GP) - 2
Oran Park (Australian Grand Prix) - 2
Salzburgring (Austrian Grand Prix) - 1
Watkins Glen (US GP) -1
Adelaide (Australian Grand Prix) -1
Spa (Belgian Grand Prix) - 1
Le Mans (Full circuit) (French GP) -1
Paul Ricard (French GP) - 1
Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexican GP) - 1
Circuit Ile-Notre Dame (Canadian GP) - 1
Burke Lakefront Airport/Cleveland(US Grand Prix) - 1
Guia Circuit (Macau GP) - 1
Fuji Speedway (Japanese GP) - 1
Brands Hatch (British GP) - 1

Tracks in italics are eligible to hold the European GP. The European GP will be the highest rank European track that does not already have a country-based GP.
Tracks in bold are being considered for the 1980 calendar

Zee board of directors at Audi vud like to see 2 German Grand Prix's next year to help rally support from zee local fans, Ideally vee would like to see Hockenheim and Nordschlife to be used, however due to safety restrictions - I doubt zat vud happen.

Vee would also like to re-express our interest in Mario Andretti to become our lead driver and will also confirm rumours zat a large offer has been made to Stefan Bellof to come join his country's racing team next year!

*** On another note, I would also like to see Bathurst used... I think there is a 60's/70's mod available too :)

Being an Italian team, Osella would like to see as many GPs as possible on Italian soil. Ideally, we'd have at least Monza and Imola, with Vallelunga being plugged for an European GP.

Renault demands that every Grand Prix take place in France. At the very least, we need Le Mans as the European GP (preferably the whole circuit, but we'll settle for Bugatti if that isn't possible), Dijon as the Swiss GP, and Paul Ricard as the French GP

RAM confirms that Nigel Mansell will be driving their car in 1980.

The second seat will probably be Lammers', but Brancatelli still has a slight chance, if he scores a few podiums, or if Lammers screws up entirely.

Tuttosport wrote:Merzario courts Andretti using Lambo leverage

F1 minnows Merzario were a surprise name linked to former World Champion F1 driver Mario Andretti, but they've had an ace up their sleeve all along. Unconfirmed reports are emerging out of Bologna that the little team run by former driver Arturo Merzario is partnering up with car manufacturer Lamborghini, with both engineering and financial backing part of the deal, and the Raging Bull's trademark V12 powerplant in the back.

With this extra boost, it appears Andretti is now seriously considering the Italian team, a place he would perhaps feel more at home with than the British-based McLaren team, who have replaced him with Derek Daly for what is understood to be the rest of the season.

Neither Andretti or Merzario were willing to comment on the issue.
