Martin van der Maeyede has won a close pole indeed, as the first 28 cars are within one second! Given the rather high attrition rate at oval races this year, Maeyede is awaiting a hard race.

Miccoli wins dramatic Kentucky 400 - Drivers hospitalized after heavy crash

Salvatore Miccoli is the winner of a dramatic Kentucky 400. Even though he lapped the entire field, this race can't considered "boring". It was a very dramatic race, right from the start. On the very first lap, championship leader Dave Anderson suffered a gearbox damage. His team was unable to repair the damage, thus giving his championship contenders the chance to decrease the gap to him. Or so they thought, as Kenan Ardaoglu was the first of these contenders to retire. He made contact with the wall, which damaged his front right suspension. The next contender to retire was Claude Speed, but it was in a far dramatic fashion.
On lap 113, Roberto Moreno was battling with Ryan McReynolds. Both ran side-by-side, as their wheels touched. Moreno ran slightly sidewards and slowed down, which was too late for Claude Speed to react. Speed hit Moreno in the back, and crashed into the guard rails. He landed back on the track, where Johannes Seidlitz couldn't avoid the wreck and also crashed into him, although he thankfully managed to slow down significantly. Ryan McReynolds was also involved in the accident, as he was slightly hit by the crashed Moreno, but he retired his car in the pits. He and Seidlitz weren't hurt by the accident, while Roberto Moreno complained about some pain in his back. He's in a nearby hospital in the moment. Speed's condition is much more critical, as he's still in the emergency room. He's rumoured to have suffered some head and neck injuries, although no official reports have been sent out yet.
After a lengthy caution period, the race went on, which was won by Salvatore Miccoli in the end.

Rule changes coming for 2016!

ICS president Walther Williams has announced some rule changes for next season, during the Kentucky 400 race weekend. Here are some of the changes:

1. Teams can only run new cars in next year's IndyCar Series, with the exception of the Indianapolis 500, which will keep the rules of 2015. Any car, which was eligible for this year, will also be eligible for next year's Indy 500. IndyCar is still evaluating the options for a second-tier series for the older IndyCars.
2. Grid sizes will be limited at all races. But there will be different grid sizes, according to each type of track.
3. The points system will be changed to 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1.
4. Prize money will stay more or less as it is, but finishers outside the points will receive less money than before.

O.N. Duck Jr. will enter the Californian 500.000 $ Challenge

O.N. Duck Jr., father of Indy driver O.N. Duck III. is the first entrant for the Californian 500.000 $ challenge, which will be held at the season finale at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. "Little O" will enter a car prepared by Walther Williams' racing team, but it will be powered by a Ford engine, as opposed to Aston Martin. "I'm entering, because I want to win the cash. But an Aston engine in my back won't even win me five cents!", said Duck Jr. in an interview.

Update on Roberto Moreno's condition

Roberto Moreno suffered some back injuries, as a result of the horrific accident with Claude Speed at today's race. But we have some good news for now, as Roberto Moreno has already left hospitals. While he still has some pain in his back, the doctors gave him clearance to start at the next race, the Pocono 500.
We still don't have news about Claude Speed, though. But we'll inform you, as soon as we have more news on that matter.

Speed's condition is stable, according to doctors

We can finally report some good news about Claude Speed's condition. According to the doctors, his head and neck injuries aren't as severe as it was assumed. While he'll still have to sit out the rest of the season, he has a good chance of returning to the cockpit for the next season.

OoC: I basically ran a random number generator, based on numbers from 1-10. 1-2 would have been sitting out for the rest of the year. 4-6 would have been an end to his career, while 7-10 would have seen him dying. But the generator put out 2, meaning that Speed can return for the new season. But Phoenix may have to name a replacement driver, if he wished.
I also used a similar measure for Roberto Moreno, although it was just a question of whether he'll have to sit out the rest of the season, and if so, for how long.

Yes. But Batistuta and Sospiri still driver older Lola chassis. You certainly have the money for new Lolas here.

MasterCard Lola-Honda seems to have a winning streak, because another of their drivers won an Indy Championship race. Vincenzo Sospiri won today's race, which was exciting all the way to the finish. In fact, three guys were fighting to the checkered flag. But Sospiri managed to finish in front of Harold Watson and Andrea Bianchi, his closest contenders for the victory.

Ryan McReynolds wins close Honda Grand Prix of Suzuka
This year's Indy Championship Series has delivered exciting road races, and the Suzuka grand prix was no exception. Ryan McReynolds and Lance Vance fought all the way to the finish, with Ryan winning the race by slightly more than a second. Although McReynolds and Vance only got into the contention for the victory, because Martin van der Maeyede and Brandon Cassidy Jr. collided on lap 9.
Dave Anderson finished on eight, yet he still can be considered the other "winner" of this race, as closest contender Salvatore Miccoli didn't score any points at all.
