We thought there were elements of A1GP in F1, with the presence of Force India, plus HRT = Team Spain, Mercedes = Team Germany, Ferrari = Team Italy, McLaren = Team Britain, etc., but now...
We have stage one of the defunct Superleague entering F1!

Hopefully Perez and Kobayashi don't start taking dives in the stewards room!
We also have Tony Fernandes who owns QPR, so there's another football connection.

While I don't look forward to see more links like this, I must admit I am intrigued by it. If Sauber gains coverage from having its merchandise selling in Chelsea shops or appearing in a football match and people noticing it, I say that is quite positive for the team. I don't know what were the Chelsea motives though.
By the way, I sure hope that fans from other teams don't start getting beaten by Sauber fans while attending races!

Re: Superleague comes to F1!
Seems pretty dumb if you ask me, I can't really see how either party is getting much out of the deal. Chelsea are already one of the most well-known teams in the world, whilst although Sauber may benefit from some more exposure, how many football fans will want to get behind Sauber when they're only a midfield team at best?
The question is, with Peter Sauber leaving at some point during this year, will we see Team Chelsea FC or something similar next year?

Chelsea is only 6th in the Premier League. Coincidently, Sauber is also 6th in the F1 Championship. So they are both midfield teams.
I don't want to see Team Chelsea FC. I didn't saw Superleague for this reason, after all.

No, but there will be a driver revolving door for years to come, just like there is with managers at Chelsea. So don't expect Kobayashi and Perez to stay there for long.

No, Bulgarian I believe. But this could lead to a Vitaly Petrov - Mikhail Aleshin double team

Not totally unbelievable given that Gazprom (Abramovich's company) sponsor Aleshin.

The Superfund that backed Minardi back when HWNSNBM was driving for them also had a football club in the Austria Bundesliga, but they hastily abandoned ship in 2007 just before the club went under. It now exists as a newco under the name FC Pasching. Their best acheivement was reaching the Intertoto Cup Final, beating Werder Bremen 5-1 to get there

Minardi and Everton? Both were/are massively underfunded yet still manage respectable results
Also, East Stirlingshire and HRT. They always finish last.

Superleague Formula had its good points - V12 engines (even though they were built by Menard CompetitionTechnologies, who I had not heard of before or since), some decent circuits (and some stinkers)...err...must have been something else.

How come nobody's mentioned Red Bull Salzburg yet? And I'm sure there's another team in Austria that Dietrich Mateschitz has got his hands on as well that can be their equivalent of Toro Rosso...

The football equivalent of Andrea Moda is defenitely Sporting Charleroi. You might have never heard of them, but believe me, It's the kind of team where you never know what's going to happen next. It's even random by Belgian standard (no pun intended).
The most recent thing is that it took the city government 12 years to find out their stadium enlargements for euro2000 were actually illegal, which means they have to demolish it now.
