Tom Walkinshaw

Sad news of the passing of Tom Walkinshaw of TWR fame. Remember him standing in the (F1) Paddock at Brands sharing a beer after a successful Jaguar 1000 Ks race.

Sad news indeed. I got to know him reasonably well and I spoke to him every day for a few months and got to appreciate the man. He could be a James Allen, but he was definitely a racer and as passionate about motorsports as anyone I've ever met. Extremely knowledgeable of everything connected with the sport and it was a shame that he didn't manage to con Mateschitz out of more money, otherwise Arrows would have become Red Bull.
I, for one, will be raising a glass to the man.

His F1 efforts may have been mildly shambolic, but:

Without TWR there would be no Ross Brawn in F1.
Without TWR there would be no Holden Racing Team.
Without TWR there would be no Silk Cut Jags.

RIP Tom.

Also reported on Autosport.

Didn't know he was suffering from cancer, but it is never a comfortable way to die. God bless his family during this difficult time.

I only recently watched the Le Mans Silk Cut Jaguars on YouTube; and genuinely cried as they crossed the line.

For that I'll always remember TWR, and as a Jaguar fan also remember his BTCC XJS cars.

Thanks Tom.
How ironic; Alonso loses because the Renault in front of him doesn't crash, or indeed feel inclined to pull over and let him pass!!!

I'm painting the cars black for the next round, and our next tubs will be called TWR in his honour. Rest in peace, boss.

May he rest in peace.

Here in Spain he was mainly known (by long time fans at least) as the man who gave PDLR a chance (because he brought a lot of money  ), and the one who fired him when Bernoldi brought more.

Well, it is a rather sad piece of news to hear, and a bit out of the blue as well - I didn't realise that he had been suffering from cancer for several years.

Whilst he has been a bit of a controversial figure in the past, it cannot be denied that he had a notable presence in the wider motorsport community, and will be sadly missed by many.

When my twitter viewer flashed Joe Saward's new blog post titeled "Tom Walkinshaw" today, i eagerly clicked on it because I thought he was going to buy into one of the new F1 teams. Sadly, that was not the case...
I always loved the orange Arrows cars, too. What a shame that they, like him, had to leave the world of F1 prematurely.
May he rest in peace.

His CV was slightly tarnished from his Arrowes days, he came across very badly but you cannot argue with his success before then (well you can, but not very well).

Never a fan of his but alot of respect to the man, RIP.

It might be sad his passage, but I don't recall him being such a positive person in the 90's.
He was extremely ruthless and stepped over many to reach his objectives. He was the guy that put Schumacher in Benetton and created that whole episode with Moreno. This among other things.
Anyway, may he rest in peace.
