Driver Pairings you would like to have seen....

I was looking forward to see a lot of Alonso-Hamilton. I was sad that it only lasted for a year.

A potentially quite explosive pairing...

On a similar vein, had he lived, I would have loved to see Gilles Villeneuve slugging it out with Ayrton Senna on the track, as that would be a very dramatic pairing.

Ayrton Senna and Rubens Barrichello.
Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna, which almost happened in 1984. Considering how much they hated each other later in their careers, that could have been interesting.

From what I've read, Lauda had masses of appreciation for Hunt, so they would have made a great driver pairing. Then again, I'd imagine Hunt would have had something to say if a team favoured Lauda over him.

A few of my own suggestions:
Ascari and Fangio
Clark and Gurney
Senna and Schumacher
Prost and Alesi
Raikkonen and Alonso

Alonso / Montoya at Renault (Most explosive pairing??)

Räikkönen / Alonso at Renault (Kimi would have beat the crap out of Nando)

And the RA108 - you know that a car is bad when even the engineers can't stand the car. At Interlagos in 2008, Button's mechanics strapped a lighter to the inside of the cockpit, and told him that they were so fed up with the car that he was free to torch it after the race (I believe they also did the same with Rubens).
In the end, though, Button's car spared him the effort required to torch it by setting itself on fire in Parc Ferme - only Honda could produce a car capable of setting itself on fire in torrential rain...

-Stefan Bellof and Michele Alboreto in Ferrari in 1986.
-Jean Alesi and Nigel Mansell in Williams in 1991.
-Mario Andretti and Gilles Villeneuve in Ferrari between 1978 and 1983.
-Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher in Ferrari in 1996.
-Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in McLaren after 2007 (there - I've said it. I don't care who was to blame, but this combination would have been absolute dynamite results-wise).
-Derek Warwick and Nigel Mansell in Williams in 1986.
-Niki Lauda and James Hunt in McLaren in 1978.

Well, Barrichello was good enough to finish third with it once. :P

Here are some combinations for your thoughts:
Rubens Barrichello/Gerhard Berger (eternal #2's)
Rubens Barrichello/Michael Schumacher 2.0 (i.e. in 2010 Mercedes for example - boy that would be grade A b***hing from both all the time)
Sven Heidfeld/Rami Räikkönen (now that would be two drivers living of their names)

What about a Hamilton - Sutil pairing? They are friends, both are fast, only Sutil gets crap cars (I dare to say it: Force India's 2010 car is CRAP by now!), but remember Sutil's 5th in Malaysia in front of Lewis! I'd see Sutil in a McLaren, to be honest.

Petrov/Kobayashi (Back row in Qualifying but will make up places on the grid on race day)
Massa/Barrichello (Brazilian No. 2s vs the world)
Gilles Villeneuve/Alesi (Now that would have been epic)
Hakkinen/Raikkonen (Flying Finns unite!)

EDIT: Montoya/Alonso (Fight fire with fire and see what happens  )
