[Just for fun] New teams: Where they would have come!

Post by IdeFan »

In the wake of Webber's accident in Valencia and Alonso's trouble with backmarkers in Canada, some people have been calling the new teams "dangerously slow".

Its been said many times that Lotus are actually closer to the front than team like Minardi and Super Aguri have been in the past, but just how close would they have come were they on the same pace relative to the leaders in previous years?

The Rules:
1. I am only looking at Quali times and Fastest race laps, overall race results can be very misleading.
2. I am only considering events that use the same track, layouts may have changed but the length of the lap remains approximately the same.
3. I am not considering wet races or qualifying sessions.
4. For older races, I am using http://f1-facts.com/results for results, as the official site rather inconveniently doesn't list quali or fastest lap times.
5. I am going back 5 years at a time, or until the track was first used.
6. For the 2006-Present qualifying format, I will consider the gap to the fastest lap of the session, which isn't necessarily the pole time.
7. For the 2003-04 and 2005 Qualifying format (aggregate time) I will only consider the first low fuel run.
8. For now, I will only use the fastest driver of the new teams, I may do other drivers later.

Thus far the new team would be languishing near the back most years, but Lotus have made some strides in recent years so we will see more when I get round to adding more later!
