Excellent. In that case, Theodore elect to skip the current R&D session to conserve our resources for next years car

1981 ROUND 5 - IMOLA

The championship moves to Europe and a few teams have installed upgrades to their chassis. Pre-qualifying starts the weekend as usual.

Weather is dry.

Image
Daly well off the pace and does not pre-qualify.

Image
Renault was among the teams to bring upgrades to Imola and it shows; they lock the front row. Double DNQ for Fittipaldi despite the upgrades they got for this race.

Image

Imola Notes
- Villeneuve scores his first points of the season with P2
- Renaults can't hold on to their quali advantage
- Williams struggling in the race and fail to score any points

1981 ROUND 6 - ZOLDER

Weather is dry.

Image
Daly again slowest. It's the third time in a row he does not pre-qualify

Image
This time around Ferrari were the fastest in qualifying. Andretti is the star of qualifying with a brilliant 4th place in a Lotus.

Image

Zolder Notes
- Ferrari pair cruises to a dominant 1-2 finish
- Crazy lap 11 sees four drivers retire
- Prost and Andretti collide on lap 48 while fighting for P3

1981 ROUND 7 - MONACO

Weather is dry.

Image
Very thight pre-qualifying but it's Thackwell that is left out.

Image
Brabham nails the setup for the tight streets and sweeps the front row. Gilles a lowly 19th after the perfect Zolder weekend.

Image

Monaco Notes
- Brabhams bin it to the wall, gifting Jones the victory
- Reutemann caps off an excellent weekend with a podium finish
- Jabouille gets March's best result so far but it won't help them in the pre-Q battle

1981 ROUND 8 - JARAMA

Weather is dry.

Image
As per usual, Daly is the slowest in pre-qualifying.

Image
Piquet dominates again ahead of Ferraris and Williams. Johansson struggling a lot, third straight DNQ in the Ensign.

Image

Jarama Notes
- Eventful race sees John Watson take a surprise win for McLaren
- Andrea de Cesaris scores Alfa Romeo's first point of the season which might prove useful come season end
- Brian Henton crashes heavily on lap 57 and is injured. He will miss the next 5 races
- Jabouille's 9th place finish takes March up to 12th in the constructors, dropping Fittipaldi down to the pre-qualifying for the second half of the season. ATS and Toleman are the other teams taking part in pre-qualifying from round 9 forwards.

Good man Wattie, not sure where that came from but I'm not going to say no to a win at this stage.

We'll go for moderate R&D, seems as if we're too unreliable for it to be worth throwing any serious money into the chassis with 1982 around the corner.

1981 ROUND 9 - DIJON-PRENOIS

Calendars are turned to July as the caravan arrives in France. Many teams have brought in upgraded chassis with Brabham and Fittipaldi reporting the most notable increases in performance.

Weather for pre-qualifying is dry. Moderate rain is expected for qualifying and race.
Results show Henton driving for Arrows but really it is Jarier behind the wheel. The French didn't update their standings system which caused the error.

Image
Fittipaldi and ATS showing they don't belong in pre-Q as Daly drops out.

Image
Prost takes the pole position in rainy conditions. Lotus struggle but otherwise no major surprises. Johansson continues his poor form with fourth consecutive DNQ.

Image

Dijon Notes
- Intermittent rain shuffles the pack
- Surer takes his maiden victory
- Elio de Angelis finally scores points with a strong second place finish

1981 ROUND 10 - SILVERSTONE

Weather is dry.

Image
DNPQ King Daly reigns slowest again.

Image
Qualifying had light rain which looked to have hindered the Williams pair the most. Jones 15th and Elio "Dumfries" only 21st.

Image

Silverstone Notes
- Piquet closes Jones' gap in the standings to two points
- Both Renaults blow their engines in the first lap
- Jones fights back to 5th to hold on to the championship lead

1981 ROUND 11 - HOCKENHEIMRING

Weather is dry.

Image
Fittipaldi good, Daly bad. No surprises here.

Image
Piquet takes his 5th pole position of the year with championship rival Jones in second. Ferrari have a bad session as they struggle with technical issues.

Image

Hockenheim Notes
- Jones takes the win and increases his gap over Piquet in the standings
- Prost and Tambay bounce back after poor qualis
- Rothengatter's 8th place finish elevates Fittipaldi to 12th in the constructors' standings

1981 ROUND 12 - ÖSTERREICHRING

Weather is dry.

Image
Daly out first again.

Image
Prost crushes everyone else with a blinding lap in qualifying. Jacques Villeneuve ends his DNQ streak with a decent 23rd place.

Image

Österreichring Notes
- Out of nowhere Elio de Angelis wins the Austrian GP
- Piquet is now one point behind Jones after the Australian fails to score
- Tambay takes third in the standings after yet another 2nd place finish

Budgets have been updated IN THIS SPREADSHEET.

This marks the end of the 3rd R&D Period. Next up is the R&D for your 1982 chassis.

Each team can spend anywhere between 2500-5000cr on R&D for a new chassis.

Alternatively teams can develop an evolution of their 1981 chassis for prices between 1500-2500cr (smaller performance gain) or decide to race for another year with the same chassis (no performance gain).

For single car teams these figures are: 2000-4000cr for new chassis, 1200-2000cr for chassis evolution.

PLEASE POST YOUR PLANS FOR 1982 CHASSIS R&D PERIOD NOW
