Would I still get the money if Muller is my tester, I can't have both as sponsors want me to have a Indian driver?

The only other people who wanted him were Sauber (4th choice) and McLaren (Test 2nd choice), and Sauber got their 3rd and McLaren their 1st choice for the respective positions. So yeah...

Since a few guys from the waiting list have already rejected taking Calientic, I declare open freakin' season: anyone who wants a part of Alt-F1 and does not own a team already may grab the team if they keep the name, engine deals and chassis. The first one to claim their interest and provide a fully filled out driver formula gets the team.

Autosport unofficial season preview.

Autosport sneaked in and saw the teams in testing action in Jerez and from the hard data we saw, we present our seaon preview of the 2016 F1 season. Our photgrapher is still in hospital after not climbing over a barbed wire fench properly and playing with the nice guard dogs.

So without any delay....

DGN Judd

Out : McLaren, Hyundai
In : DGN, Judd, Kevin Magnussen (Friday Driver)

Chris Dagnall has finally bought out the McLaren race team and races the team under the DGN banner from their base in Donnington. Last season was a fight between McLaren and Williams with Daniel Ricciardo winning the championship in his debut season. They are unchanged in the driver line up which should give the team stability with Ricciardo wanting to fight for a second drivers championship and Kubica wanting to improve to challenge, as he knows time is running out for his to get a title as Magnussen comes in as a friday test driver and is gauranteed driver next season. The car doesn't look as fast as last seasons car but the powerful Judd engine should get them challenging for wins, however at technical circuits and tight circuits they may struggle for points, realistically they won't fight for the championship but they will win races.

Autosport Prediction : 4th

Williams Peugeot

Out : Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso
In : Peugeot, Lewis Hamilton, Dave Cassidy, Takumo Sato (Friday Tester)

Williams picked up their second world constructors title but Rosberg lost the title by 5 and a half points, Frank Williams blaming the canceled second Malaysian race as costing Rosberg the title. However there are major changes at Williams with 2008 and 2012 champion Lewis Hamilton coming in after three years at Red Bull with two of them in a horrible car, Hamilton wants to win and get a third title like his hero Ayrton Senna, if he can find his magic then the third title is his but he will have to fight for it. Dave Cassidy impressed a lot of people and getting a podium more then his Sauber team mate, he will race hard this season and should get a few wins. Williams also drop Mercedes to become the semi works team of Peugeot and spent the most on an engine to make it the best on the grid, it is hard to see Williams not getting a hat trick of WCCs.

Autosport Predictions : WCC

Red Bull Ferrari

Out : Hyundai, Jenson Button, Scott Pye
In : Ferrari, Fernando Alonso

Red Bull have new management and persuaded Fernando Alonso to join replacing the retiring Jenson Button, Alonso had a torrid time with Williams last year but the pay increase and a known team leader should make the Red Bull a team to look out for.Alex Lynn hoping to move forward after a pretty good season. Bruno Senna has been kept on as the friday tester but if Lynn gets into trouble again he will be looking forward to racing the Red Bull. Red Bull have one of the strongest looking cars in the field but the Ferrari engine is underpowered compared to the Hyundai last year, however Alonso will be worth several tenths of a second and should propell them into the top again.

Autosport Predictions : 3rd

Caterham Judd

Out - Peugeot, Raffaele Marciello
In - Judd

Caterham have made few changes, they decided not to continue with the Peugeot engine and use the Judd. The Peugeot engine last year was woefully underpowered but Sebastian Vettel took it in the back of the Caterham to a win and several podiums, with the more poweful Judd engine this season, Caterham are looking good and fromer champion Vettel will be looking for more wins if not the championship this season. Daniel Kwjat missed 12 races last season due to a frightening crash, he is hoping to bounce back but in testing he has been much slower then Vettel. They have a good car and a good engine and are likely to give Williams a run for their money.

Autosport Predicitions : 2nd

Sauber Judd

Out : Mercedes, Sebastian Bourdais, Dave Cassidy, Max Chilton (Friday tester)
In : Judd, Alexandre-Laurent Voeckler, Pastor Maldonado , Felipe Nasr (Friday Tester)

Sauber lost a lot of pace between 2014 and 2015 and have decided to change everything. For a start they have signed up with Judd, dropping Mercedes who look woeful in testing. They have gone for a fresh new look for their car and fired their two drivers. However the placement drivers are a bit questionable. Alexandre-Laurent Voeckler has been signed for the sponsorship he brings and he will get points but he is a bit too inconsistant to get more then one race victory. Pastor Maldonano was 3rd in the championship for Sauber in 2012 winning seven races, however his wage demands were not met and he ended up pricing himself out of a seat. He spend the last two years in south american stock cars so will he be ready to race? Overall they should get a solid top half finish but two more experienced drivers could have got them challenging for the championships.

Autosport Predicitions : 5th

Ferrari

Out : Alexandre-Laurent Voeckler, Evgeny Restov, Daniel Melrose, Giovanni Roda
In : Sebastian Bourdais, Luca Filippi

Ferrari had a bad season last year, a single win due to attrition was the highlight. Restov was disappointing in the Ferrari as was Voeckler despite the single win and they have been sacked and replaced by Sebastian Bourdais who is consistant if unexciting and new talent Luca Fillpi, who has done reasonable in GP2 but didn't win a championship. Ferrari have improved the chassis since last year but the engine is one of the slowest so they should score decent points but a win is looking unlikely.

Autosport Prediction : 8th

Brabham Judd

Out : Mercedes, James James Davies
In : Judd, Nico Rosberg

It is fair to say that Brabham had a bad season and finished 7th, the season started brightly with James James Davies getting a podium but that was the only highlight in a dreadful season where Davies drove averagely and looked more like he was collecting his wages. Fjirns looked out of his depth, but scored minor points. Brabham have signed Nico Rosberg but they are paying a solid chunk of money to take him away from Williams and this has effect car developement and has made the car look painfully slow even with the Judd Engine. They will still score the odd few points but Rosberg is likely to be frustrated by midseason and unless upgrades come soon he may end up quiting before the season is out. This could well be Brabhams last season in F1.

Autosport Prediction : 10th

Peugeot

Out : Marc Gené
In : Jérôme d'Ambrosio

Peugeot were hampered with an underpowered engine and a reasonable car. Grosjean used it to great effect to score a podium and a number of points finished. Gené struggled to score anything but a couple of minor points. Peugeot have spent big on engine developement but this has hampered the car developement. Grosjean should score several more podiums but d'Ambrosio is not likely to trouble the podium. Solid results should get them up the championship table and with an engine freeze they look solid for 2017.

Autosport Prediction : 7th

Precision Mercedes

Out : Mercedes (as team), Jeroen Krautmeir (as driver), Felipe Massa, Dean Stoneman (Friday Tester)
In : Precision, Valtteri Bottas

Mercedes would be happy their engine powered the WCC Williams but were disappointed the team scored 16 times less points then them and double what Mahrinda did. Mercedes offloaded the team which has been reborn as Precision. Massa who did get Mercedes only podium has retired and has been replaced by Bottas who did reasonable in the ill handling Mahrind with Jules Bianchi being kept for another season. Precision do have a reasonable chassis but have a weak engine that could cost them points at the power hungery circuits. Bianchi and Bottas should get solid points positions with the odd podium here and there.

Autosport Prediction : 9th

Mahrinda Mercedes

Out : Valtteri Bottas, Narain Karthikeyan (Friday Tester)
In : Karun Chandhok, Nico Müller

Mahrinda had an awful season, Jean-Eric Vergne got a 5th in a season full of minor points. Mahrinda will be looking at less of the same this season as the car is marginly better if you could measure improvements to the 9th decimal place, the engine is much worse. Vergne becomes tester, Chandhok becomes lead driver bringing money but not much talent and will struggle to be lucky to score minor points, Müller brings cheaper Mercedes engines and some talent and it is likely he will out perform Chandhok who should be replaced by Vergne before the season is out. All in all, Mahrinda will be fighting for the wooden spoom with Calnetics.

Autosport Prediction : 12th

Haas Ferrari

Out - Villeneuve, Hyundai, Phoenix McAllister, Robert Wickens (Friday Tester)
In - Haas, Ferrari, Stoffel Vandoorne, Johnny Cecotto Jr (Friday Tester)

Haas have bought the ailing Villeneuve team who in two seasons scored two podiums and score points a mere three times last season. Jacques Villeneuve hung up his helmet and pitlane headset and is off to wail into a microphone. Haas who were working on an F1 project have a completely new chassis and it looks sleek and fast, testing has shown some interesting results. André Lotterer struggled with the poor car last season but with his experience he should surprise. Stoffel Vandoorne who did win GP3 does look fresh and exciting and should match Lotterer for pace if not consitancy. Overall Haas will punch well above their weight.

Autosport Prediction : 6th

Mansell Ferrari

Mansell are one of the new teams that have started from scratch, Nigel Mansell started an F1 team in the hopes that his son can rise the ranks and have a gauranteed F1 seat when he gets here. Mansell has also said he wants to promote young talent and have an inexperienced team of Einar Ármannsson and Danilo di Meglio with Paulo Serafim as friday tester. It remains to see how the conservative chassis will handle but the testing has seen the team at the bottom of the time sheets. If the young drivers develop then points and maybe a podium could be possible, if not then they are going to fight for that wooden spoon.

Autosport Prediction : 11th

Calinetic Mercedes

Calinetic were one of the founding teams of the rival F1RWRS series before they went bust at the end of the 2013 season after some early promise. Joseph Calinetic raised some more money and wanted to return to F1RWRS but found that the waiting list was too long and managed to get an entry into F1. Things did not start off well, with the chassis being a hacked up version of the CAL4 chassis to comply with F1 rules, they raised enough money for the Mercedes engines before Joseph ran out of money again. It looked like that they would close down before the season started but a buyer was found a the last minute. Evgeny Restov leads the team and will be hoping for some success and is joined by third time still not very good Giorgio Pantano with Dean Stoneman finding a friday tester role. Calnetics will struggle, but if they can survive the season then they might be able to make a real chassis and not be last.

Autosport Prediction : 13th

Damn, with that chassis we have no other option but to struggle. However we will never quit fighting and giving our best. Our main purpose this season is to survive and reorganize so that we challenge the top in three seasons time.

2016 Marlboro Bahrain Grand Prix I - Race
Image
Penalty Points after the race:
#5 - Lewis Hamilton - 4 (+4 for dangerous driving against the driver of car #22 (Stoffel Vandoorne))
#11 - Nico Rosberg - 3 (+3 for causing an avoidable accident involving the drivers of car #14 (Romain Grosjean) and car #15 (Jérôme d'Ambrosio))
#12 - Robin Frijns - 5 (+5 for causing an avoidable accident involving the drivers of car #7 (Alexandre Voeckler))

-- Positives --
Pastor Maldonado - he's back and he's better than ever, he's got a knack for making things better.

Dave Cassidy - nearly spoiled the day of his former team.

Ferrari - kept a low profile and was there to reap the benefits when the others struggled in the fast cars.

Evgeny Restov - took a Calinetic to the points and earns INFINITE IMPROBABILITY DRIVE OF THE RACE for that feat.

Jules Bianchi - must be sad, he had a chance at lots of points.

-- Negatives --
Lewis Hamilton - 6th and the first batch of penalty points are not gonna endear Hamilton to his new boss.

Robin Frijns - there was no need to be so brutal to the Sauber of ALV.

Robert Kubica - using your brain is not a bad thing, Robert.

Alex Lynn - throwing away what could have been your first win tends to earn you REJECT OF THE RACE.

Sebastian Vettel - amazing for two laps, but lost his plot in the final corner.

Calinetic ecstatic with points on debut
New Calinetic owner, Joshua Gibbs, has expressed his happyness with the team's first points, right on their debut in Formula One.
"It's such a great achievement" - he said. It was the russian Evgeny Restov, that after years at Ferrari and Sauber, decided to sign for a backmarker team, and on his first drive for them, scored points with a 10th place finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix I. Restov said that "The team we're ecstatic on the radio. They we're so happy, and after the change of ownership right before the beginning of the season, this is a sign of things to come".
Race II of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2016 Formula One World Champioship, will be run this Sunday, and it features William's Lewis Hamilton on pole position for the race.

Hell yeah!!

Penalty Points after the race:

#22 - Stoffel Vandoorne - 5 (+5 for causing an avoidable accident involving the drivers of car #11 (Nico Rosberg))
#91 - Giorgio Pantano - 5 (+5 for causing an avoidable accident involving the drivers of car #19 (Daniil Kwjat))

-- Positives --
Lewis Hamilton - after screwing up yesterday, he got the win he wanted.

Fernando Alonso - he could not beat Hamilton, but he did secure second place.

Jules Bianchi - worked hard and gets Precision 10 points and the INFINITE IMPROBABILITY DRIVE OF THE RACE

Sebastién Bourdais - on Saturday he was subtle, today he took a much more noticeable approach to earn some healthy points.

Haas-Ferrari - nice intra-team battle and and a double point finish makes the new guys popular.

-- Negatives --
Luca Filippi - when Bourdais does so well, being anonymous and failing to score points make you look bad.

Giorgio Pantono - not very popular with Caterham after causing an accident at pitlane.

DGN-Judd - Kubica first takes off his team mate and then Ricciardo's engine happens to explode, REJECT OF THE RACE for the team.

Alex Lynn - another avoidable driver error, that's a miserable first weekend

Valterri Bottas - the team of Mr. Krautmeir needs every point it can get, so Bottas retiring is not good for business.

#91 - Giorgio Pantano - 5

-- Positives --
Stoffel Vandoorne - not even Gene Haas could have dreamt of this success: INFINITE IMPROBABILITY DRIVE OF THE RACE for sure!

Valtteri Bottas - perhaps he lost a win when he couldn't get past André Lotterer, but second is still a good result to get Precision going.

Ferrari - a 3-4 helps their dreams in the WCC.

Robert Kubica - despite fuel trouble, he kept multiple cars behind him successfully.

Nico Rosberg - came close to scoring points for Brabham.

-- Negatives --
Williams-Peugeot - their star Hamilton nearly breaks his neck in a crash and Cassidy runs out of fuel: REJECT OF THE RACE for sure!

Pastor Maldonado - he was bitterly disappointed to run out of fuel.

Mahindra-Mercedes - double retirement in their first home race leaves people worrying about them.

Daniel Ricciardo - silly mistakes throughout the day are not the mark of a valid world champion.

Fernando Alonso - had a chance to strike but failed to do so, that's not good for Red Bull.

I am going to miss next week. However, I wish a gamma upgrade for Brabham once it is affordable for our team.

Alex Lynn - he is in serious trouble, Bruno Senna could just replace him permanently.
