I definitely think that Sauber have a chance of overtaking Renault now if the blown engine is banned, maybe even Mercedes.

I think some of you are really overestimating the effect of the blown engine, or diffusers, or whatever. Remembers me of when traction control was introduced mid-season in 2001 and of when it was banned for 2008.

Apparently there's still a lot of rain at the circuit - I really hope they don't wimp out and start behind the SC

I'm hyped. Now: delayed telecast of motoGP. In 2 hours, F1 Canada. Spent all afternoon watching Le Mans too. :D
My sympathies to those in the eastern states that don't have the 1am start time that I do for the F1.

I was just thinking, in the case of a wet GP, might some teams (i.e. RBR maybe others) be better off taking their KERS unit out of their car altogether?

I say this beacause of the benefits of better braking stability that you get without KERS (which I would want in wet conditions). Obviously you would lose the benefits of KERS out of the corners, but as RBR don't get the full advantages of Kers as they only operate their KERS at 40 Kwtts (about a 1/3 less than other teams) & are suffering reability problems on their unit. Maybe they would be better off taking their unit out & instead taking the benefit of better braking stability?

I would certainly looking into it if I was them. Also Hamilton apparently has an issue with his car (other than the wrong setup/lack of top speed) which might indicate a Kers problem, so maybe he would be well advised to look at taking it out also. For instance remember Kobayashi's near spin at T9 during Quali underbraking. I reckon we could see alot more incidents like that partly due to the effect of Kers underbraking (particularly on cold tyres after a SC).

Completely agree!!! I really hate all this SC because of a little bit of spary business. Fair enough if their is aquaplanning, but these days I really think they throw out the SC too easly on a wet track.

We need drivers to run in difficult conditions to enable the talented drivers to shine through. Scary thought here...but just imagine if races like Canada 1981 would have been santised (via SC or red flags etc), would we have got to see such a legendary performance by Gilles Villeneueve that day? I think not.

On D'Ambrosio, Timo Glock said on the BBC the Virgin team had put a full wet setup on the car. Virgin probably argued that if they had put a dry setup on the car D'Ambrosio would have been quick enough, and that in a wet race they'll have more than enough pace to justify qualifying for the race.

On the race, I hope the drivers don't weasel out and complain its too wet to race. I don't want to see another Korea and have a race that lasts 3 hours.

It wasn't just the regular drivers who were complaining, though. Even Bernd Mylander was complaining of a lack of grip and visibility, particularly rearward visibility; his main concern was that he could not tell where the other drivers were, and that somebody might run into the back of him.

that's the 5live commentary box isn't it? The race is in one hour, so it's going to be a wet start :). I just HOPE they start without the bloody SC.

Keep an eye out on Force India too. We know Sutil has good record in wet conditions (scored his first and Spyker's only point in wet Fuji) and I think Di Resta has had rain experience too.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say Canada will be best race of the year.

Yes!! Rain.

Hopefully we will see someone apart from "The Finger" win for once. I'd even like to see Alonso win which is saying something! :)

Lotus to score points here today, you heard it here first.

And No, I don't mean Lotus Renault GP, Heidfeld and Petrov could well score points, but I don't mean them.

Even with D'ambrosio allowed, we'll still have a 23 car grid - Algie's doing a pitlane start.

Probably a very smart move, being Canada!

Also, seems even Jake Humphrey seems to be getting bored of the Vettel steamroller, judging by his (re)action...

With the pit exit where it is, should there be an accident he will be quids in as he misses the entire corner, he might have unrejectified himself from this race

Timo does have a good history in the wet (hello, Malaysia '09), but I had to laugh at the BBC guys suggesting Jaime was getting a massive jump on people by setting up for the wet and likening it to Vettel in Monza. That Toro Rosso was certainly a different car to the one that Jaime is in now...and the drivers might have a bit of a quality difference too. It's also completely thrown out if they start behind the safety car, since Jaime wouldn't get the advantage of an incident at the first corner.
