As for this second option you mention, I'll refrain from translating the first part (family-friendly website, see), but the second part is probably something like "Show her who you are!"

I think the second part is more likely to be 'let him or them see who you are', as fare [insert pronoun] vedere means to let [somebody] see, and gli is a masculine pronoun, not a feminine one :) . In English, a less literal translation might be 'show them what you are made of'.

That's essentialy correct, but there's an added twist: "show them what you are made of" would literally translate "fa' loro vedere chi sei". However in colloquial Italian, the "loro" (3rd person plural) is usually substituted with "gli" (3rd person singular). It's grammatically wrong, but nobody cares ;)

If others are getting poetic, I'll try also:
My name is Luca
I am Ferrari driver #4
Now I’m in the shadows but
Yes I think you've seen me before
If you see someone in south Spain
Because Fellipe’s still in pain

Just don't ask me to win the race (3x)

I think it's 'cause I’m clumsy
I try not to drive too fast
Maybe it's because I’m crazy
I try not to get passed
They only pay me to test
And after 10 laps I get to rest

I just don't race cars anymore (3x)

Yes I think I’m okay
I drove the car just the other day
If you ask that's what I’ll say
And it's not your business anyway
I guess I’d like to be alone
no car broken, no engine blown

Just don't ask me to win the race (3x)

Thanks everyone for your contributions so far!

We have just recorded the Luca Badoer Comeback edition of the podcast, and we've read some of your posts here. Keep posting your loving words of support for Luca ... although late entrants obviously won't get read on the podcast.

Perhaps fjackdaw could make Ferrari aware of this thread!

P.S. Gary (the celebrity), is that the parody of a song? Sadly, it came too late for inclusion in the podcast =(

The thread's a little up and down, but I'm sure the podcast will be nothing but supportive and enthusiastic, so that might be the best thing to send their way.

All true. The difference being that that gli is used more in speech, and loro should be used in good quality writing (well, that's what I was taught anyway :) ). Anyway, I'll stop talking about Italian grammar now.

For those unfamiliar with this song, please be warned the subject matter is somewhat "downbeat".

It is a very sad song, but it's also very good.

Anyway, I'm optimistic that Luca Badoer will only have positive songs going around in his head after this weekend.

I've decided to join the song lyric editing bandwagon:
He's coming home
He's coming home
He's coming
Luca's coming home
(x4)

Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know
They're so sure

That Luca's gonna
Throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know he can drive
Cos' I remember

The horse on the shirt
All the points still gleaming
16 Years of hurt
Never stoppped me dreaming

So many jokes, so many jeers
But all those oh so nears
Wear you down
Through the years

But I still see that
4th go begging
And Luca racing
Against some of the best
In the whole wide world

The horse on the shirt
All the points still gleaming
16 Years of hurt
Never stoppped me dreaming

I know that was then
But it could be again

He's coming home
He's coming home
He's coming
Luca's coming home
(x4)

The horse on the shirt
All the points still gleaming
16 Years of hurt
Never stoppped me dreaming
(repeat to fade)

No points for guessing the original song

To Luca: We love our Formula One Rejects, but we love it even more when someone rises up to the challenge and removes his name from infamy. Here's to you finally getting those points you deserve, ten years overdue.

This is the weirdest, most surprising story of the decade, easily. And at the very end of the decade, too! So fitting!

Luca does get to add another achievement to his CV though.

Never before in the history of F1 has a driver managed to get four penalties, for any offence or combination of offences. Surely this makes Luca even more worthy of a special place in F1 Rejectdom?

On Sunday, he'll be the first ever driver to trigger and accident that will remove the entire field from the race. Then in the bar afterwards, he'll spill beer down Montezemolo's trousers.

Either that or he'll be overheard telling jokes about Bernie.

I read a tweet today offering an interesting theory for Luca's performance:

Badoer didn't miss the racing line, he was rubbering in his overtaking points. (via @JohnONolan)
