I was just browsing this forum for what year had Alternative Championships done, and I noticed 1992 hadn't been. I decided to remove Williams, McLaren and Benetton from the results (as those three teams hogged the podiums in all races a bit like the top 3 teams did in 2002, with the exception of a couple of appearances for Alesi in unusual races), and it was a really good close championship between two fast but unreliable car/driver combos, and one more consistent, here are the results:
1. Mika Hakkinen 62 (5 wins, 1 2nd)
2. Michele Alboreto 58 (1 win, 5 2nds, 2 3rds)
3. Jean Alesi 56 (5 wins, 1 2nd - no other scores!)
4. Andrea De Cesaris 44 (3 wins, 2 3rds)
5. Erik Comas 31 (3 2nds, 1 3rd)
6. JJ Lehto 19 (1 2nd)
7. Johnny Herbert 18 (1 win, 2 3rds - again no other scores but podiums)
8. Aguri Suzuki 18 (1 3rd)
9. Thierry Boutsen 17 (1 2nd, 2 3rds)
10. Ivan Capelli 16 (2 2nds)
11. Pierluigi Martini 16 (1 2nd, 2 3rds)
12. Karl Wendlinger 11 (1 2nd)
13. Bertrand Gachot 10 (1 win - Monaco of all places!)
14. Christian Fittipaldi 9 (2 3rds)
15. Stefano Modena 7 (1 3rd)
16. Mauricio Gugelmin 6 (1 3rd)
17. Gianni Morbidelli 5 (1 4th)
18= Oliver Grouillard/Ukyo Katayama 4 (1 4th)
20= Paul Belmondo/Eric Van De Poele 2 (1 5th)
22. Emanuele Naspetti 1 (1 6th)
(Couldn't be bothered to work out the ties for the lowly positions)
No rejects unejectified on this alone I don't think though.......
1. Lotus 80
2. Footwork 76
3. Ferrari 72
4. Tyrrell 48
5. Ligier 48
6. Dallara 35
7. Larrousse 14
8. March 14
9. Jordan 13
10. Minardi 12
11. Fondmetal 2
(Tyrrell win the 4th place tie due to De Cesaris winning 3 races and none for Ligier, and Larrouuse win 7th place tie due to Gachot's win in Monaco)!
Alboreto was leading a lot of the way but 5 mid-late season wins for Hakkinen got him in the lead, and two no-points finishes for Alboreto in the final two races really cost him it. Surprising how badly Ferrari do even in this format!
Darn those pesky Williams, Mclarens and Benettons - what a great championship there would have been without them!

Re: Alternative 1992 Championship
Proof that these Alternate championships actually prove things:
Ferrari, less points than Lotus and FOOTWORK.
This WAS a very bad year, and the year before it all changed. Todt would turn up for 1993... and the rest is.....

That stunned me actually - in reality he only came 6th but the only drivers to finish ahead of him were Senna, Mansell, Patrese, Schumacher and Brundle!
I also thought before I started doing it the champion would be Alesi becuase he was really the only one to sometimes mix it with the top 3 teams, Hakkinen did it a couple of times but not as much as Alesi.

Re: Alternative 1992 Championship
Gachot's only win was when his teammate failed to pre-qualify.
