f1rumours.net wrote:GPDA Announces Driver Strike

In a short statement for the media, the Grand Prix Driver Association announced that they have agreed on beginning a driver's strike starting on August 25. According to the statement the goal of the strike is to get the teams to agree to "make decisive moves to ensure a just financial compensation for all Formula One drivers who are a key factor in the income of the sport and its teams."

Sources close to the drivers have revealed that they are quite united in their search for better payment. Sebastian Vettel is reportedly the best-paid driver on the grid at roughly $6.5m, a significant downgrade to the wages of drivers like Michael Schumacher and Sammy Jones in the 2000s. "Nowadays, team prinicpals can only be described as scrooges," a driver agent reported on the condition of anonymity.
f1rumours.net wrote:Italian Grand Prix Cancelled

Despite early negotiations on ending the driver strike, the parties were unable to agree on a deal in time for the Italian Grand Prix. The organizers have announced the cancellation of the Formula One sessions of the weekend. According to the statement, Formula 2 World Championship and other feeder series will not be affected by this cancellation.

FOSE announced on the website that any tickets for Sunday will be refunded as well as any "reasonable travel costs". According to a source in the management of FOSE, the company is willing to bear the costs of the strike for a short time to ensure the drivers do not pursue the option of establishing a rival series because of discontent with their compensation.
f1rumours.net wrote:Drivers and Teams Reach Agreement, New Salary Rules to Come in Effect for 2024

In a Tuesday press conference at the JUFA Hotel Judenburg, the GPDA lawyers and Pascal Vasselon, Akio Toyoda and Jonkvrouw Katja Van Loon as representatives of the teams announced an end of the driver strike three days ahead of the start of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend and an agreement regarding driver compensation in the future.

Jonkvrouw Katja Van Loon confirmed that the negotiations with the drivers were extremely hard, but also expressed her emphatic belief that this agreement will both account for the "financial aspirations" of the drivers and ensure Formula One remains "open for gifted drivers" and will allow teams to focus on developing young drivers in "ways not seen in motorsport before".

As part of the agreement, established drivers will be entitled to a minimum wage of €4m that will be increased to €6m for former Grand Prix winners. Teams can sign entry-level contracts for drivers who have not competed in Formula One previously: these contracts will bind said young drivers for two years to their team and give the teams a restricted free agency similar to American sports.

When asked whether this agreement will secure labour peace in Formula One, one of the lawyers of the GPDA confirmed that agreements have been made that will ensure that the interests of drivers and teams will be secured. The financial regulations will be amended to account for these agreements, allowing FOSE to adjust any agreements to prevent future labour conflicts.
What this means for players from 2024 onwards, in simple terms:
  1. All drivers with previous experience in F1 will get at least €4m a year, former race winners €6m
  2. Currently existing racing driver contracts will be updated to match those sums, with enough money in full millions being added to existing sums (e.g. a driver set to make €2.2m next season will make €4.2m instead)
  3. Reserve drivers that are under contract and would have their wage raised instead will have their contract cancelled unless the next season is a team option
  4. Drivers without F1 experience can only be signed to a so-called entry-level contract, a two-year contract with an annual wage of €1m with additional bonuses which are tbd; those drivers can be extended for a one-year contract afterwards, those details will be explained in 2025
  5. For 2024, sponsorship will not require you to sign drivers from your target regions; for 2025, a slightly modified sponsorship system will reduce the importance of target regions (not fully eliminate it)
  6. All these will be part of the regular game rules and thus can be affected in the regular way, either by the administration or by unanimous voting

Okay, since some changes are needed, we will handle multiple weeks at once. Since MRT failed to report for the last phase, the administration has in accordance with the rules made the choice in Wazzle's stead: Qualifying Mode Lv. 1 and 2

For that purpose, you send your testing team out for two testing days and have them work on one of four things: motor power, which is the base BHP output of the motor; qualifying mode, which describes how much quicker your motor can go if fuel consumption is raised to the maximum; car failure probability, which states how likely it is for your motor to blow up or adversely affect other parts of a car and motor mass, which is the weight of your motor and how it negatively affects cornering speed.

To see how that looks in detail, I have provided this handy graphic.
Image

Basically, you can add two "levels" every Grand Prix from now on (except after the season finale, where you will be able to add four levels (we'll get to that after the Chinese Grand Prix)). Each test day costs €1,000,000. Regardless of how many test days you use, you must have at least Lv. 1 for every aspect before the beginning of next season.

You are free to write in-character reports on your testing prowess without any limitation except maybe common sense. Those in-character reports will not affect driver ability or future RNG odds.

I expect you to fill out this formula

Code: Select all

f1rumours.net wrote:Norris "Will Do What [He] Can", Vettel "Not Concerned" About Reliability

In the press conference ahead of the championship-deciding Chinese Grand Prix, the focus was on the two rivals for the championship: Sebastian Vettel and Lando Norris.

Norris was asked about the unfavourable odds, especially given the strength of Caterham. Norris acknowledged that he would most likely "need some luck", but also vowed to try as hard as he can.

Asked about the retirement at Abu Dhabi and his motor failure that cost him the 2022 title, Sebastian Vettel professed not feeling worried about reliability at all.
f1rumours.net wrote:BMW Reassessing Formula One Strategy?

According to sources within the company's motorsport division, BMW is currently pondering its options on re-aligning its strategies in Formula 1. Apparently, there is a push from upper management towards shifting the Formula 1 efforts of the manufacturer towards the Mini brand to establish a more "layered motorsport profile" of all brands.

One thing that can be ruled out is a departure from BMW from the sport. Despite challenges in terms of reliability, three wins in their second Formula 1 season is judged to be well within the parameters, especially given the dominant performance by Caterham. With the signing of ARWS star Alberto Cara for Melrose Racing Team all but confirmed, the company is happy with developments.
