Honda Racing F1 Team

Honda notes the interest shown by Benetton with regards to a customer engine supply deal for 2000, and is flattered by the interest from such a well-established team. However, as the 2000 season is the company's first season in the sport's modern era running an entire works operation, Honda feel that anything more than the one customer engine supply deal would risk overstretching resources. Thus, for 2000, we have to politely decline Benetton's approach for a customer engine deal - that is not to say however that we wouldn't be open to supplying more than one customer team for 2001 going forwards.

Driver 1
Giancarlo Fisichella (550k, 2 years)
Eddie Irvine (600k, 2 years)
Jos Verstappen (250k, 2 years)

Driver 2

Mika Salo (200k, 1 year)
Shinji Nakano (PD, 1 year)

Reserve Driver
Shinji Nakano (PD, 1 year)
Alex Zanardi (150k, 1 year)
Ricardo Zonta (PD, 1 year)

Formula Manager 2000 - Empty Seats

Post by Forti »

The RNG has been done on the Discord and the spreadsheet has been updated, but there are empty spots to deal with.
Benetton (Rob) need to find a sponsor and a second main driver.
Red Bull (Dom) needs to fill the Driver 1 slot.
BAR (Novitopoli) needs a second driver.
Jordan (CarloSpace) needs a reserve.
Arrows (Nicky) needs to sign a reserve driver.

Notable free agents include:
Alexander Wurz, though he had a poor 1999, had an amazingly consistent 1998 season.
David Coulthard, a race winner for McLaren and a reliable driver.
Jean Alesi, a seasoned driver who has seen it all and can be trusted to deliver good results.
Johnny Herbert, the winner of the chaotic 1999 European Grand Prix.
Allan McNish, a longtime F1 tester and endurance racer.
Juan Pablo Montoya, the winner of Formula 3000 in 1998 and the reigning CART champion.
Tom Kristensen, a Formula 3000 race winner and the winner of the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Colin McRae, a World Rally Champion who hasn’t completely closed the door to F1 after tests in 1996.
Mika Salo, who impressed as a Ferrari substitute in 1999, and is tied to an engine deal.

Prost is willing to offer Alesi a seat if he pays enough money to buy out Sarrazin's contract. We are dissapointed that he didn't approach us first, like Olivier did, so we can not give him better terms.

For the record, I can't see who's driving for whom except on the actual Drivers' list. It also says that Michael Schumacher has not been hired, for example, but I'm pretty sure he has.

Benetton will now bid for Marlboro (level B), claiming that we will win a race.

New driver bids:
- Juan Pablo Montoya (¤450k, 3 years)
- Giorgio Pantano (¤75k, 2 years)
- Luca Badoer (¤75k, 2 years)

Alex Wurz (1 year, 300k)

It is now time for you to develop your cars. Select the tier for your new chassis (or update last year’s car) and an engine available to you, but remember to take into account the combined 800,000 cost for entry fees and tyres. Arrows and Minardi also must rebadge their engines to "European" and "Petronas" as part of sponsor obligations.

You may also claim your F2 team. Some already have teams locked in, due to past partnerships in real life, and Red Bull and Arrows are required to run their F2 teams as part of sponsor obligations. Having an F2 team allows a team to have full control over junior drivers until they achieve a full-time F1 race drive with you, similarly to DECs. There will be no salaries or pay drivers whatsoever in F2. 2 drivers and reserve for an F2 team. Keep in mind that there’s a 250,000 entry fee to enter the Formula 2 championship each year.

Benetton would like dibs on Super Nova Racing, because they have a very cool name. If possible, we would also like to change the team name to Bene2n.

For our junior team, we will bid in order on:
- Yuji Ide (get him over to Europe and change the course of history (and get him enrolled in an English class)).
- Giorgio Pantano :pantano:
- Sebastien Bourdais
- Gaston Mazzacane
- Justin Wilson

We will go for a B-level chassis.

Jordan Grand Prix will build an update upon the highly succesful 199 chassis. If I understood correctly this will cost us ¤300.000.

For engines, we will bid for:
1. Supertec (1 year)
2. BMW (2 years)
3. Cosworth CR-1 (1 year)

We are appalled that Honda has not reached out to supply engines to us despite our long lasting relationship running the Mugen-Hondas competitively. We are however open to negotiations if Honda is interested in supplying the engines to us.

Scuderia Ferrari Telefonica will build the A-Tier "Ferrari F1-2000" (a new naming system for a new millennium, and one we will actually be sticking with because all other Ferrari naming systems are dumb).

We will of course be using the Ferrari 049 engine, and Bridgestone tyres.

We would also like to buy out the World Racing Team F2 operation and enter it as "Image Risi Competizione", where it will be operated by staff from both Maranello and Houston.

Risi Competizione will approach the following drivers, in order of preference:
  1. Image Felipe Massa
  2. Image Soheil Ayari
  3. Image Enrico Toccacelo
  4. Image Justin Wilson
  5. Image Peter Sundberg
  6. Image Thomas Mutsch

As previously stated, we at Honda are wary of overstretching resources for the company's first foray into the sport as a whole entity in the modern era. We would like to place on the record our good feelings towards Jordan Grand Prix, and hope that they recognise our contribution towards their success over the last two years, but we also ask that they respect our decision to keep the scale of operations low for 2000. We are willing to negotiate an engine deal for 2001 pending the success of 2000, but for the current season we are unwilling to supply any additional customer deals to the one already negotiated with BAR.

Arrows will be B-Spec its 1999 chassis to be used in the 2000 Formula One World Championship.

Arrows also wants to request Ricardo Rosset to be moved to the reserve driver role to make room for Vincenzo Sospiri as the #2 driver for 2000

Arrows will also bid on the Ferrari 048 engine provided Sospiri races for the team in 2000.

FortiSport 2000 Formula 1 Season Preview

Post by Forti »

FortiSport Magazine, circa 2000 wrote: Testing has been completed, and the season is almost here. We at FortiSport are going to share our expectations and predictions for the 2000 season…

Back of the Pack

Minardi

1999 went well for Minardi’s standards, nabbing a point with Gene to take 10th. They have struck up a deal with Brian Hart for exclusive use of his engines this year, and also signed Pedro Diniz and former F3000 champion Jorg Muller. However, their showing in testing is far from promising. They finished in P23 and P24 on every single day, and merited points will not be coming their way. But they can rely their drivers' funding and new partners Petronas to keep them afloat...

Drivers: Pedro Diniz, Jorg Muller
Car: Minardi-Petronas (Hart) M02
Predicted WCC position: 12th

Arrows

One point with de la Rosa was all that Arrows could manage in 1999; they were very lucky to not get displaced into the double-digits thanks to Badoer’s breakdown in Europe. An ever-decreasing budget caused concerns over if they'd even make the grid, but they've made it to the season start with new sponsors European... and a Ferrari engine in the back too, thanks to their hiring of Ferrari affiliate Sospiri. Arrows have simply updated their 1999 car, which won't help when it comes to competitiveness, but they may just score some all-important points at Monza or Hockenheim.

Drivers: Pedro de la Rosa, Vincenzo Sospiri
Car: Arrows-European Ferrari A21
Predicted WCC position: 11th

Prost

Their podium with Trulli in the ‘99 European GP was the highlight of Prost’s 1999. Works engine suppliers Peugeot want further improvement, but it seems that they’re not going to get it. Panis could drag the car to higher places, but the inexperienced Sarrazin remained at the back of the field. A backmarker brawl with them and Arrows is the most we expect of them this year.

Drivers: Olivier Panis, Stephane Sarrazin
Car: Prost-Peugeot AP03
Predicted WCC position: 10th

Lower Midfielders

Jaguar

Expectations were high when it was announced that surprise 1999 race winners Stewart were taken over by Ford, but testing results aren’t reassuring. They may have one of the strongest driver pairs on the grid in Rubens Barrichello and returning runner-up Eddie Irvine, but they frequently finished lower down the field. They must prove to us all that their testing struggles are merely a case of sandbagging....

Drivers: Rubens Barrichello, Eddie Irvine
Car: Jaguar-Cosworth R1
Predicted WCC position: 9th

Red Bull

They may have a new identity, but the Hinwil-based team is set for another average year in P8. Red Bull made a big signing when they approached David Coulthard, and also unexpectedly hired Jan Magnussen for his return to F1, but many doubt that he was Dr. Marko's preferred choice, and he may succumb to the high-pressure nature of Red Bull's driver management, as seen in F3000. Under this new guise, Red Bull are distancing themselves from Ferrari and want to make themselves a force to be reckoned with, no longer under the eyes of the Scuderia. But only time will tell if they will actually become a force of their own....

Drivers: David Coulthard, Jan Magnussen
Car: Red Bull-Ford RB1
Predicted WCC position: 8th

Jordan

So close but yet so far in 1999, it seems that last year’s form will not continue for Jordan. They no longer have Honda’s support due to them creating a works team of their own, and opting to supply BAR instead. Frentzen has bought his 1999 self to the new millennium, but Zonta has proved little to deserve a seat at Jordan, lacking consistency and frequently finishing around the bottom 5. Being a one-car team will not help matters in the Constructors' Championship....

Drivers: Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Ricardo Zonta
Car: Jordan-Honda EJ10
Predicted WCC position: 7th

Best of the Rest

Benetton

Benetton are in for another year in the upper midfield, if their testing performances are to be believed. Their driver lineup has received a lot of hype, which isn't a surprise considering that it consists of Prost podium finisher Jarno Trulli and reigning CART champion Juan Pablo Montoya. An amazing driver lineup can only go so far with an average car though, and Montoya is still getting to grips with Formula 1. Marlboro meanwhile, have begun a new partnership with Benetton after being ditched by Ferrari, who will surely bring a lot to the Enstone team....

Drivers: Jarno Trulli, Juan Pablo Montoya
Car: Benetton-Supertec B200
Predicted WCC position: 6th

BAR

The laughing stocks of ‘99, BAR have had quite the glow-up over the off-season. Newcomer Button has adapted well to Formula 1 in testing, and their reliability has improved to acceptable levels. This team was also selected by Honda, over more established teams like Benetton and Jordan, to be their first customers in their official F1 return. With the team built around him and a competitive car to boot, now is Villeneuve’s time to shine…

Drivers: Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button
Car: BAR-Honda 002
Predicted WCC position: 5th

Honda

Now to the elephant in the F1 room: Honda. In their first year back as a works team, they have already proven themselves as midfield contenders. Fisichella has impressed in previous years and can now lead the charge for a manufacturer effort, while Takagi has his great chance after trundling at the back in Tyrrell's final year and finding no success at Arrows.

Drivers: Giancarlo Fisichella, Toranosuke Takagi
Car: Honda RA100
Predicted WCC position: 4th

Championship Contenders

Ferrari

This year is going to have a banger of a championship fight, and we are struggling to call who will walk away as the 2000 Formula One World Drivers' Champion. What we will say though, is that of the top 3 teams, we have the least faith in reigning World Constructors' Champions Ferrari. Almost-champion Eddie Irvine has been lost to Jaguar, and has been replaced by Euroformula champion Fernando Alonso, one of the youngest F1 drivers ever. He's being trained to be the successor to Michael Schumacher, who is eager to win his third WDC and bring home Ferrari's first WDC in over 20 years. Ferrari seem to be playing the long game though, and the reward for their efforts may come later than this season....

Drivers: Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso
Car: Ferrari F1-2000
Predicted WCC position: 3rd

McLaren

McLaren have won the last two WDC’s with Hakkinen. Joining him is reigning F3000 champion Nick Heidfeld; another case of champion and successor.
Their recent track record makes them a better bet for the champion over Ferrari, but there is another team based in the UK with a partnership with a German manufacturer, who we predict to be champions. That team is...

Drivers: Mika Hakkinen, Nick Heidfeld
Car: McLaren-Mercedes MP4/15
Predicted WCC position: 2nd

Williams

...Williams. After their rough 1999, they did away with Zanardi in favor of Minardi point scorer Marc Gene, who immediately delivered. A works partnership with BMW gives Williams the backing they need to succeed. Their car is a contender this year and outpaced McLaren and Ferrari during testing, in no doubt aided by the raw power of the BMW engine. The only question is, how will the new BMW engine hold up against more developed and reliable engines?

Drivers: Ralf Schumacher, Marc Gene
Car: BMW Williams FW21
Predicted WCC position: 1st

ROTR: Mika Hakkinen - title defense off to a horrible start, because he didn’t start…
IIDOTR: Jenson Button - His and BAR’s first points and podium
Heinz-Harald Frentzen had an accident, which means an injury RNG.
As seen in the rules, any DNF marked as an "accident" in the sheet will lead to an Injury RNG.

Given the standard of safety by 2000, Heinz-Harald Frentzen can't possibly be hurt too bad.
1-80: Fine
81-90: Won’t be at 100% for Brazil (temporary stat deduction)
91-100: Misses Brazil

Result: 74. He needed help getting out of the car, but Heinz-Harald Frentzen is alright and will continue the season as normal.

Budgets updated.

It would be funny if FortiWinks returned from his absence only to find out that I'm the Forti in town now.

Despite the overall result not being what we wanted, Honda are content with the overall flashes of pace shown in our first weekend back. The highlight from the point of view of Honda Racing F1 Team was Tora’s exceptional qualifying, putting the car on the third row of the grid first time out marks a strong performance and hopefully one on which we can build. We’d also like to offer our congratulations to BAR and Jenson Button in particular, with Button’s podium in the engine’s first showing highlighting the promise we believe all aspects of our package to have.

2000 Brazilian GP

107% time: 1:19.500 (no DNQs)
ROTR: Jenson Button - latest IIDOTR winner tops off a horrible qualifying with a first lap crash
IIDOTR: Honda - first win in their return to the sport, with both cars in the points too
Accident for Sospiri - Injury RNG required

Like Frentzen's crash, Sospiri's accident wasn't that dangerous, so the odds of missing the next race are low, but never zero
1-80: Fine
81-90: Won’t be at 100% for San Marino (temporary stat deduction)
91-100: Misses San Marino

Looks like Ricardo Rosset (Arrows reserve) is returning to F1.
