Formula BOSS - The Crossover Series - Sign Up

Post by Shadaza »

The vast majority of racing cars are raced for a year or so and then tossed aside to gather dust. Racing cars, do NOT belong on the shelf, they are living monsters that yearn for the track.

You live to tame these monsters. Be you Privateer, a former professional looking to rekindle the love, or a youngster looking for an alternative path. Whatever your background, you are here to battle a variety of machines from across the years like charioteers of old. Welcome to Formula Boss.

------------------------------------

In Formula Boss, there is a rich variety of cars to choose from that are graded by tier. Tier 1 cars are the fastest and capable of fighting for wins, for the competitive.

Tier 2 cars are unlikely to be fighting for wins but are capable of putting up a fight in certain circumstances and are very much welcome.

and Finally, there is the "Guest Tier". These are cars that are within the speed range of Tier 1 and 2, but are not open-wheel cars, thus are not legible for championship points. The idea for this class is for the gentlepersons that want the opportunity to race their machines in anger that they would otherwise not be allowed to.

Tier 1:

Champ Car World Series (2007-2008 Panoz)
Indycar DW12 (2014) You can pick Chevrolet Honda
Indycar DW12 (2014) Oval Package, Chevrolet/Honda
Formula 1 (1996) All teams available from the season at historic speed.

Tier 2:

Formula 2 (2020)
Formula Renault 3.5 (2014)
Formula 1 (1988) All cars and teams. Historic speed is questionable but there is a difference between N/A and turbo.
Formula 3000 (1999)

Guest Tier: (Ineligible for championship points)

Rebellion LMP1 (2018)
Sauber C11 (1991)
Mazda 787B (1991)
Porsche 962C (1991)
Bykolles LMP1
Audi R15 TDI

Race Format: Qualifying followed by 30 minutes of racing. Championship points: F1 2003+ format (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). Calendar TBA

Team Name: McLaren F1 Team Vintage Racing Division
Driver Name: Marino Longo
Driver Nationality: Italian
Racing Number: #7
Racing Car: McLaren MP4/11B
Livery Colour Preference: F1 can not be changed
Bio: Being from the small town of Saludecio, Marino Longo worked his way up to the upper management ranks, enjoying a fruitful career in Italian business. Being a motorsport fan that spend more than one weekend in his childhood at the Circuito Internazionale Santa Monica, he invested his personal wealth in competing in the GT4 series with a McLaren 570S GT4. Despite being a classic gentleman driver, he showed enough potential (and sponsorship opportunities) for McLaren Racing to bring him in for their new-born "Vintage Racing Division".

I have done some further testing and the GP2 car is actually incapable of proper pitstops and otherwise has other suspect behavior. So I can convert these entries to more modern but slower F2 cars or maybe you can pick a different carset. My apologies.

Pantano wins destructive season Opener

Image

Giorgio Pantano ( right of photo) wins Round 1 of the 2022 BOSS championship following a crash for Brundle (centre) and a large fire for pole-sitter Companc (left)

Pantano even suffered a spin of his own but recovered to win. Cipriani in 2nd had a difficult start to the weekend, having crashed over the line in qualifying and putting him at the back, but he managed to recover flawlessly in the race to 2nd place.

The podium was completed by the sole closed cockpit car of Johnny Herbert who managed to snatch it on the final lap after Max Thrust collided into the back of Maheever Raghunatan.

Van Eerd and Racing Team Nederland started the race a promising 4-5-6 but a messy afternoon from the "professional" driver saw Van Eerd a lonely 5th.

Vladimir Arabadzhiev, Pablo Perez Companc and Felipe Drugovich completed the point scores in their FR3.5, Forti and Formula 2 car respectively.

The championship standings are thus:

Championship Standings are thus:

Pantano 10
Cipriani 8
Thrust 5
Van Eerd 4
Arabadzhiev 3
Perez Companc 2
Drugovich 1

Team Championship
Il Barone Rampante 18
Max Thrust 5
Racing Team Nederland 4
PS Motorsport 3
Munchi's Grand Prix 2
MP Motorsport 1

Thrust defeats Prost on last lap lunge

Image

A soaked race track greeted the BOSS GP runners at the start of the race, 30 minutes of action the road would clearly dry but everyone had to start on wet and conditions were not at all the same as the dry qualifying.

This was adamant right from the line where pole-sitter LPC got plenty of wheel spin and was down to 4th before even making it to turn 1.

An early spin put an end to the hope of Marino Longo, who took damage and had to pit at the end of the first lap. Whilst the full wet conditions were perfect for Nico Prost in the 1988 McLaren, he quickly rose from a middling grid slot to take the lead by the end of lap 2.

Image

Luis Perez Companc's day did not get any better.
Image

He chopped infront of Cipriani and braked earlier than the Italian was expecting leading to a 2nd firey exit from the race in a row. Cipriani pit for repairs and would rejoin the race.

Prost was the first to switch to dry tires on a track, mostly out of necessity considering his tires were totally shot and he had even fallen behind Giedo van der Garde who was having a much better day of it.

Pantano and Thrust looked set to attempt to complete the race on the wets as most of the rest pit for dries but this strategy proved ineffective as they struggled massively for pace. Thrust even had a spin before crying enough and pitting for dries with 6 minutes left on the clock.

Prost easily closed in and passed Pantano and looked set for victory, but Max Thrust on fresh tires was obliterating the lap-times setting fastest lap by 5 seconds and going over 7 seconds a lap faster than Prost.

Thrust very quickly passed GVDG, Pantano (still on wets!) and on the final lap broke Neko Neko hearts by storming to the win.
Pantano also lost out on the podium on the final tour.

A late spin cost Raghunathan an impressive P5, he lost it over the bumps and ended up in the path of the lapped Drugovich, thus needing a pitstop to fix the damage.

Results:

1.Max Thrust
2. Nico Prost - SWORD
3. Giedo van Der Garde - Nederland
4. Giorgio Pantano - Il Barone Rampante
5. Giuseppe Cipriani - Il Barone Rampante
6. Alex Brundle - SWORD
