F1 Expansion, 2021 in the style of F1 2010. Sign Up

Post by Shadaza »

Cast your mind back to 2010. 4 new teams were accepted to the grid under questionable circumstances, false promises, dodgy extrac technical package, and a very very strong suggestion to run Cosworth engines.

Only 3 teams eventually did enter, none of which were anything close to the original intended project. Had budget issues and never really were truly competitive.

Such a circus is near unthinkable now, but you know what, let us do it again!

Image

It is now Late 2020, the perfect time scale to build a mult-million-pound prototype. The Grid is willing to be expanded by up to ten (10) two (2) car entries.

You the player, will be taking on the role of team principle/general manager. Complete your entry on the form below and see where destiny will take you. Good luck, let the vagueness of the process be your ally. The simulation platform will be the fabulous LTF.

-----------------------

Note, if you already applied on the GPR discord, you have no need to do so again. If we get oversubscribed and do not make the final 10, I can say there will be opportunities to influence the coming seasons.

There is no need to publically announce your entry, feel free to post any information (or misinformation) you like. Is the selection process open for fair public scrutiny? Nope, it's peak 2010 era!

Meet the teams.

10 New Teams will enter the 2021 F1 season, here is a little about each.

1. Project Five -(Aislabie)

Ron Dennis is back, bringing his brand of workplace efficiency back to F1. F3 champion Oscar Piastri and recent FE BMW signing Jake Dennis have been hired to drive for the team. An impressive line up.

2. Austria GP - (Herman95)

A true Austria team, from F1 and motorsport legend Alex Wurz. Kicking off their season with an apt all Austrian driver line up of Christian Klien for experience and Ferdinand "insert 20 middles names" Hapsburg for the younger clout.

3. ByKolles (Nessafox)

"Using the established expertise of ByKolles Le Mans project to emulate the succes in F1" is the direct mission quote of the team. Collin Kolles is back in F1 ladies and gentlemen. Tom Dillman has been accepted for the first seat but the teams first choice of "Renger van Der Zande" has been denied a license. Robert Kubica has been pictured with the team in recent days.

4.ART Grand Prix (shawn040217)

Finally reaching the F1 promotion they have longed for, ART enter F1 with the medium-term goal of being the feeder squad for Alpine with a long-term independent goal. As such, their driver squad is Christian Lundgaard and China's first F1 driver, Guanyu Zhou.

5.SMP Racing (Pinkd56)

SMP come in to F1 with a sack of rubles, and a single line on a piece of paper, "Russian drivers, da?"

They are attempting to revive the careers of Sergey Sitrotkin and Danil Kvyat. F1's first team based in Russia.

6.Andretti Autosport (Pi3141)

One of the more headline-grabbing teams. Michael Andretti is attempting a second hopefully more successful stab at F1. Nico Hulkenburg and Colton Herta might well be the strongest line up of the new teams so signs are postive!

7.Trulli-Fisichella Motor Sport (novitopoli)
Italy's last F1 race winners are collaborating together to hopefully strengthen the Italian motorsport industry and drivers.

Edo Mortara and Robert Schwartzman are their go-to drivers. A quick pairing for sure but noticably lacking the Italian flags.

8.HKS Dome F1 Team (digitdan7)

The Japanese prototype racing squad have often been linked to F1 and now they have their opportunity they are taking it! Picking their drivers from Toyota backed Super Formula teams, Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy get their chance.

9. RCIB Insurance Team HARD with HUB Financial Solutions and Collins Contractors (TCBY)

Team HARD's strategy is to build build build. Throw everything at the wall and whatever sticks is their F1 machine. Jack Aitken and Will Stevens are their drivers...for now but they are just interchangable cogs in the garrished coloured machine.

10. Stefan GP (billyoswarit)

Rejected multiple times to enter F1, Stefan just keeps on trying. The selection comitte reluctantly concede that an antiquated car is still a car and is therfore a better attempt then previously selected memebers. If they can bring Toyota back in to F1 it will all be worth it.

Kazuki Nakajima may be ageing, but is willing to give it one last dance. The 2nd driver remains a mystery. Some say Jaques Villeneuve is putting on his now, no longer quite so oversized, overalls.

------------------------

With the entries clear, here is the next prompt.

"Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing. Here are your options:

Option 1) Rush your car development in time for testing, track data is crucial and sponsors want to see the fruits of your work.

Option 2) It's much more important to have a properly designed and built car then something rushed, our first running will be Friday practice.

And finally, all teams are asked the following question by journalists: "What are your goals for the coming season?"

As a former test driver, Wurz knows how important data is. Therefore, Austria GP will go with option 1.

EDIT:
Goals for the season: "We want to establish ourselves as a team and get our working process right. This season will lay the essential foundation for the future success of Austria GP."!

Q: "Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing."

A: " The speed of the new entry process took us all by surprise. We're going to be ready for the first race, but it is going to be a learning year for all the new teams. And I think we're going to learn more by doing things properly than by rushing to the test, chasing track time at any cost."

Q: "What are your goals for the coming season?"

A: "Our long term plan is to win in Formula 1. If we can take the first steps in that direction in 2021 I'll be happy. That's more important than the results we score in 2021. That being said, we're aiming to be the best of the new teams, and maybe even the best American team on the grid this year."

"Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing. What are Trulli-Fisichella Motor Sport GP's plans?"

We don't want to rush things. The Formula E experience taught us the hard way how rushing things might light to the ultimate failure of a project - something which we cannot afford to repeat. We are steadily working on the car, and are confident everything will be up and running once the first Friday session hits.

"What are your goals for the coming season?"

We want to establish ourselves as a competent Formula 1 operation, especially when measuring ourselves against the benchmark set by the other newcomers. But at the same time, our team is a long-term endeavour. On the one hand, we want to establish a pipeline of Italian drivers joining the Formula One ranks from the junior series. On the other hand, we have a 3-year plan to establish ourselves as solid upper-midfield contenders - and are confident we have the right talent to get there. But we cannot afford to promise things on which we could never deliver - this just isn't our style.

"Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing. Here are your options:

Option 2: We have the expertise in our base in cologne, thankfully we still also acquired the IP rights to old drawings of the 2010 HRT car, However it will take a lot of time to adapt this to the current regulations, hence we will skip pre-season testing. We are absolutely sure this car will still be as competitive as it used to be!

And finally, all teams are asked the following question by journalists: "What are your goals for the coming season?"

We will promote our promising experienced talents in Dilman and Kubica , 2 drivers who we believe are absolutely top. We also would like to thank Orlen for the support, they are helping us with maintaining our tradition of excellence. We believe we can be the best new team.We will however not abandon our LMES plans, as they look just as promising!
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

"Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing. What will you do?"

Option 2: A pre-season test will be worthless if the car isn't up to standard. Thus, HKS Dome shall forego preseason testing to make sure their car is given the quality control it needs.

"What are your goals for the coming season?"

Quite frankly, our goal is simply to show a modicum of competency.

Q: "Now accepted into Formula 1, it is a race against the clock to be ready in time for the race, let alone preseason testing."

A: We will be going with Option 2 - if the failures of Mastercard Lola and HRT have taught us, it is that a rushed development programme won't get us very far. Therefore, we shall skip pre-season testing and opt to properly prepare our cars for the first race.

Q: "What are your goals for the coming season?"

A: "For this year, our dream goal is to score at least one point - with the drivers we have and the expertise carried over from junior series, I am confident that it is a strong possibility. If that can't be achieved, we aim to show a good amount of competence in what is undoubtedly a year of learning and buildup.
