F1 1981 by CarloSpace
All right ladies and gents, this will be my take on running an alternative F1 management game. I will be running this game on a self-constructed excel spreadsheet that I have been working on for some time. The first season will be based on real life values but the further we go into the alternative future, the more random this universe will get. Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton and the likes will most likely still be major players but there is no guarantee that they will be as good as in real life. Results in this universe bear a lot more relevance than results in real life universe.
So, go ahead and pick a team you wish to lead to glory!

CONTRACTS
A season begins with signing of engine & tyre suppliers. The listed supplier prices are minimum asking prices but teams can of course offer more money to a supplier. Teams can attempt to sign suppliers for 1-3 years long contracts. The price of engine/tyres will remain the same for the duration of the contract even if the manufacturer changes the price in the upcoming seasons.
Driver signing works largely the same way. Drivers can be signed to 1-3 years long contracts. Drivers' salaries aren't fixed but instead have expected salaries that they are asking from their future employers. Teams can offer lower salaries than the drivers are expecting but will make the driver more likely to refuse the offer. Conversely a higher than expected salary will make the driver more likely to sign.
Pay drivers (listed with negative salaries) can only be signed to max. 1-year contracts. The negative salary next to their name implies the maximum amount they can pay for their seat per race.
The prices and salaries of multi-year contracts are paid yearly, not in one lump sum.
All the available suppliers, drivers and their respective prices/salaries are listed IN THIS SPREADSHEET.
The driver list contains only the most notable drivers but you are able to offer a contract to drivers also not on the list.
MID-SEASON R&D
There are four R&D periods during the season on which the teams can develop their chassis. A single period is 3-4 races long after which potential upgrades are installed to the chassis. R&D plans have to be committed at the beginning of each period.
Each team can spend between 0-1000cr on R&D for each period. Larger investment increases the chance for greater performance gain. Further instructions will be given when it is time for each R&D period.
NEW CHASSIS R&D
Last R&D period of the season is reserved for development of next season’s chassis. Each team can spend between 2500-5000cr on R&D for a new chassis. Alternatively teams can develop an evolution of their previous chassis for 1500-2500cr (smaller performance gain) or decide to race for another year with the same chassis.
For single car teams these figures are: 2000-4000cr for new chassis, 1200-2000cr for chassis evolution. A single car team can expand to two cars for a one time cost of 1500cr.
DEBT AND BANKRUPTCY
Teams can go into debt during and in between seasons.
A team will be declared bankrupt if it is in debt at the end of a season for two years in a row. Keep in mind that season ends before the prize money is paid and any future prize money will not save an indebted team from bankruptcy.

I feel like McLaren this time please
Quick question though, is ‘81 too early for Lauda to be looking for a comeback? He only retired two years prior and only gained interest in wanting to return after a test this season IRL.

The great RNG gods determined that Lauda has some interest in a return but he expects a rather huge salary to really consider a comeback.

Nice, that means that even with no additional interest we could start the season since all the remaining teams are midsize or small.
We will of course wait for a couple more days before we go ahead to fill the remaining teams. I'm looking at Saturday at the earliest before we begin bidding
There are still 5 teams up for grabs: Ensign, Arrows, Theodore, Fittipaldi, Osella!
I will babysit these remaining teams if we don't get more people aboard by Saturday

TYRE & ENGINE SUPPLIER BIDDING
The time has come. Let's sign some tyres and engines!
Each team is expected to sign one supplier for both tyres and engines. Ferrari, Renault and Alfa Romeo don't have to bother with engine bids.
Your budgets and all the available suppliers and their respective prices are listed IN THIS SPREADSHEET.
Please use the template below when bidding for suppliers. Please remember to include offered contract length (1-3 years) and price (has to meet the minimum price, will stay the same for the duration of the contract) for each supplier.

I'm sorry if my instructions have been unclear, I fixed the previous post a little now.
I assume all of these offers are for minimum prices (if not stated otherwise) and for minimum length (1 year)?

Sorry for the mix up, that was the implication for McLaren for base price for each but we’ll put Goodyear or Michelin on 2 year deals if successful.

I would rather leave them unmanaged and babysit them myself. That way there will be no conflict of interests. I have a firm belief that at sooner rather than later all the spots will be filled anyway

ATS and March are still left. I'll give you 24 hours and will run the RNG tomorrow for engines & tyres.

ENGINES RNG
Renault, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari use in-house engines.
MATRA
Tyrrell, ATS, March and Ligier have bid for Matra. Tyrrell's bid is clearly the best but they also have a preference towards Ligier.
1-40 Tyrrell
41-70 Ligier
71-90 ATS
91-100 March
20 and 85!
Matra go for the highest bidders in Tyrrell and ATS, leaving Ligier to look for options from abroad.
HART
Toleman is the sole team interested in Brian Hart's ambitious project and secure the deal.
FORD
As the de facto engine supplier, Ford has an unlimited supply of the engine.
Williams, Brabham, McLaren, Lotus, Ensign, Fittipaldi, Arrows, Osella and Theodore get Ford as their first choices.
March and Ligier get Ford as their second choices.

TYRES RNG
GOODYEAR
Goodyear are scaling back their involvement in F1 this season with plans of supplying only a select top teams.
Williams, Tyrrell, Brabham, McLaren, March, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are the main contenders but Ligier, Arrows and Theodore have some interest as well.
1-30 Ferrari
31-44 Williams
45-57 McLaren
57-69 Tyrrell
70-81 Ligier
82-92 Brabham
93-96 Alfa Romeo
97-98 Arrows
99 March
100 Theodore
41, 76 and 84!
Goodyear is put off by Ferrari's abysmal 1980 season and instead goes for Williams, Ligier and Brabham. Ligier however prefers Michelin and signs with the French manufacturer. A new number roll is required...
68!
Tyrrell, Williams and Brabham get Goodyear tyres.
MICHELIN
Michelin is prepared to supply 16 teams and with 3 teams already signed with Goodyear, they are happy to accept all the bids coming their way.

PIRELLI
Pirelli is prepared to supply 5 teams.
Fittipaldi, Alfa Romeo and Arrows get Pirelli tyres.
AVON
Avon is prepared to supply 8 teams.
