Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Britain

Post by Londoner »

1. Daniil Kvyat. From a Q1 exit to the points, that's a decent days work

2. Williams. Not last for once!

1. Daniil Kvyat - Q1 exit, on the worst strategy and scores a point. Very well done mr Daniil.

2. Pierre Gasly - well, that was much better this time out.

HM to Williams as a whole for not being the worst team of the weekend.

1) Kvyat - What a rise from terrible Q1 to points finish
2) Hamilton - Proved once again he's too good for this field.

I nominate Pierre Gasly for having his best race this season (by far). I hope this is the Gasly we see for the rest of the season!

I'm going to nominate Gasly, even if he does owe Vettel a beer for his 4th place finish he still had to hold it together.

HM to Hamilton, for what was essentially a perfectly executed race and now placing himself 4 DNFs ahead of Vettel in the championship (he would still stay 1st due to race classification).

Daniil Kvyat - as pointed out, he turned a Q1 elimination into points. He's been quite unlucky I think this year, but his racecraft really has been strong.

The race - Austria was good, but I think this was a better race. The on-track action was sensational, I absolutely love this year's driver line-up.

The front-runners, bar Vettel - showed why they're the front runners. Even Gasly's performance was very good.

1) Daniil Kvyat. Made the most of the safety car shuffle to take points.

2) Pierre Gasly. That's the form Horner wants to see. Perhaps he is just bad at setting up the car and should stick with using Max's setup as they did in this race.

Honourable Mentions:
Kimi Raikkonen (Another solid performance in the midfield after a dry spell)
Renault (Kept the Mclarens in their sights and were the more consistent team during the race)

Now, what comes to mind:

- Valtteri Bottas: this season certainly seems to be a step up from last season. He's consistently bringing the fight to Hamilton, and I can easily see him winning at least a few more races this year - even if Hamilton looks to win this season with 17 wins.
- Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen: excellent, exciting racing. Really aggressive and passionate driving that made this race the best of the year so far imo. It really showed up Vettel, when the moment Sebastian became relevant to the race he made contact and dropped out of the race.
- Pierre Gasly: Good job boyo. Now do that another 11 times :D
- Williams: both cars ahead of a Ferrari on track!

Gasly - closed the pace deficit to Max to an acceptable level

Kvyat - I think he got the pitstop under the SC advantage, but even so - its tight, so to get into the points from a bad quallie was impressive
I started supporting Emmo in 1976 (3 points )....missed 75, 74, 73, 72...

I can't in good conscience nominate someone for doing something their teammate has already done 8 times, so my nominations are:

Raikkonen, I don't know what kind of Finnish sorcery he's doing to get that Alfa going that fast, but its working.

Ricciardo, although Renault's promises of challenging the top teams haven't materialized, he's showing that Renault are easily able to secure any positions dropped by the top 6.

And of course Kubica, who could have imagined he would finish a race AHEAD of Vettel!? :deletraz:
:deletraz:

F1 2019 in a nutshell:
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
"Ferrari is faster"
Mercedes 1-2

I feel this will be a straight fight between two popular nominations, but let's see how it goes! I grouped the general Williams nominations together as a team nomination, and found it hard to find a fourth candidate, so picked the one least alike the existing options. You have 48 hours to pick your candidate!

In the comeback of the year so far, Pierre Gasly goes from twice-Reject of the Race (I don't think we've ever had three consecutive wins for the same candidate in forum history) to Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race. For the first time this season he finished ahead of his teammate, and regardless of Max's issues, Pierre had pace for once! Now all he has to do to keep his seat is to continue doing exactly this for the rest of the season :D
