car running into safety car
car running into safety car
the first lap of the 2nd race in the wtcc in pau was utter mayhem , (bit like spanish gp but better) the safety car got c ompletely totaled
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYO4yPmf5AI
also the track looks like an okay street circuit - only problem for f1 would be that it would need to be widened by about 10 times its current width

I was just about to link o this when I got distracted by the thread on wheel tethers.
Wo's driving the safety car, I wonder? Taki Inoue?

Remember when Hiedfeld Ripped the door off the medical car in Brazil in 2002? - Friday Practice i think it was - it was brilliant cos it was the Near side door, proper reject quality considering he went on the INSIDE of the MC and completely RIPPED iT!

More like who let the safety car go on the track right in front of the racers?

If you enjoy big safety car crashes (without serious injuries), check out this video from the Dutch Supercar Challenge, where I'm a mechanic on the car I use as an avatar.

Isn't it meant to be a safety car and not merely called that? Picking up the leader of the race surely is meant to be something else than what the driver of this safety car did.

Re: car running into safety car
I don't know who drives the safety car in WTCC, but whoever he is definately needs to be reconsidered. Sure, he needs to be ahead of the leaders, but to come all the way across the circuit is a bit much, especially considering how much room there was going to the first corner. The resultant race suspension due to the loss of the safety car was the right decision, but smashing the safety car in that manner, along with Franz Engstler's self-owned BMW 320si, is amateur at best.

A curious fact: the driver of that medical car was Alex Ribeiro, a Brazilian F1 reject who drove for Hesketh, March and Fittipaldi, but never scored a point

Who on the current grid would be most likely to run into the safety car?

Piquet isn't going to be anywhere near the safety car. Remember safety car is just ahead of race leader.

... it's also likely that he'd have been the reason for deploying it.

And even more, in his F1 driver days, he painted in the car the tag "Cristo salva" (Jesus saves)... well, it seems that he had an extra hand that day on 2002... Half second later and he would have done a Taki.

Re: car running into safety car
If any F1 driver was going to run into the safety car it would be a ferrari driver because their team told them to ignore the yellow flags
The best driver is the one who can drive past a first corner crash not be in front of it

Re: car running into safety car
That depends if Hamilton passes the safety car and then slows to allow it to overtake him again. McLaren would then request Kovalainen to "unknowingly" drive straight into the safety car.sailer 99 wrote:If any F1 driver was going to run into the safety car it would be a ferrari driver because their team told them to ignore the yellow flags

We could end up with a race where the leader laps the entire field, and the entire first lap is covered by yellow flags!
