QuickSim: 2019 F3 Americas - Roth almost didn't win

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

Now that it's been rubber-stamped by the council we can finally get down to this new automated F3 championship that will be run a little bit differently to what we see elsewhere in the forum. The usual details:

The Simulator

Grand Prix 2, same as what I use for Anglo-Irish F4, same as what Normal uses for F3 Eurasia, what novitopoli and CaptainGetz12 use for their F4 series, what Ataxia uses for IndyCar, what Pasta uses for... look, you get the idea, it's popular, it works, moving on.

The Cars

Same as in Normal's F3 series. Next.

The Drivers

Usual real-life or DEC owner system, minus RNGs. Please don't enter Sebastian Vettel. Seriously, he has enough on his plate with F1. There's no need to make him go through an F3 season as well.

Also, double-dutying is acceptable, so long as (obviously) two conflicting races don't fall on the same weekend. No drivers will be allowed to compete in races outside of the Americas (basically anywhere with a large time zone difference) if said races fall within one week of an F3 Americas weekend.

The Teams

13 teams, 2 cars per team. But here's the thing: I've shortlisted 13 teams already. Some of them have the confirmed interest of their controlling users. Some don't. For those that don't, I would like the approval or rejection of their controlling users so I know what to do with them. If anyone has a team they would like to have added to the list, they are more than welcome to submit it. If I end up with more than 13 teams, somebody's going to be cut loose, so be warned.

The Race Weekend

Standard double header format seen in other FIA series, except for the final round: The Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas (I just couldn't resist) will be a single race twice the length of a standard F3 race.

The Points System

The same one you all know and have varying opinions of (probably):

1 - 15 pts
2 - 12 pts
3 - 10 pts
4 - 8 pts
5 - 6 pts
6 - 5 pts
7 - 4 pts
8 - 3 pts
9 - 2 pts
10 - 1 pt
Pole Position - 2 pts

The Race Calendar

I'll let the Wiki speak for itself.

The Entry List

These entries have been chosen based on their canon experience and geographical location. You may notice that some users have multiple teams here, but remember: Users will have a much more limited degree of control over what goes on here than in other series. I don't want anyone to feel disadvantaged. If you do, tell me, I'm willing to be flexible at this early stage. And, as I said before, it's all provisional, so if you don't want your team here, please tell me.

Equipo Berta (pasta_maldonado)
Escuderia Hernandez (Normal32)
Escuderia Verdini (Bandon23)
Carrera Granada (Gonzalez)
Genesis Engineering Canada (Dexter249)
Mazzacane Motorsport (pi314159)
Moreno Motorsport (DemocalypseNow)
North Star Racing Canada (Pilot8)
Peak Motorsport Canada (V8fan12)
TE Connectivity Andretti Autosport (Klon)
Team Calinetic Zepter (Miguel98)
Team Pelfrey (Wizzie)
Underhill Motorsports (Normal32)

If this is all automated, what do I do?

What do you do, indeed. Well, as I said, you can submit a team to or withdraw from the entry list, and until April 1st you the controlling users of these teams will have the opportunity to decide who drives for you and what you want done in case your driver's too shite for too long. For the performance clause, what I'd like is the sort of finishing record you'd like your driver to have by a certain round. For example, "must have scored 30 points by round 4." If they fail to achieve this, they will be replaced by somebody else, who will have a similar aim, unless you state otherwise. Basically, you can make your performance clauses as complicated as you want.

Code: Select all

Team: This is the name of the team.
Car numbers: Take your pick from 0-99. Whole numbers preferred.
Driver name and nationality: This is the person who drives the car representing your team. You have to have two. Sucks, I know.
DEC owner (if applicable): If the driver is fictional, somebody owns him or her. It's up to you to find out.
Performance clause: As explained above.
Replacement driver (if needed): The Roberto Moreno, the Pedro de la Rosa, the... You know what this means.

Or, if you don't feel like filling all of this out, you can just leave it to me, and I promise I won't deliberately sabotage anyone by putting Benoit Voeckler in their car. No, seriously, I won't. The series is designed to be automated and I don't want people to feel too disadvantaged by that.

Just making sure you're aware of this, Miguel: Daley will only be able to do three American F3 rounds. Most of the championship is either within a week of or directly clashes with an AIF4 round, and Uruguay is only a couple of days after the AIF4 pre-season test.

A fine choice, but I'd like some clarification:

1. Burrell will not be able to participate in Uruguay or Canada (the 1-week rule).
2. I'd like clarification from Biscione regarding her F3 Eurasia status. I know he's made statements to the effect that Burrell would be switching over to the American series. Will it be a proper switch to focus on American F3 or will she continue to divide her attention between the two series?
3. If she will continue to divide her attention between the two F3 series, which one will take precedence in the event of a date clash?

I asked Pilot8 to check the calendar and ensure there was 2 week space between all the already-completed F3 EU races and the F3 NA races. He assured me this was the case.

Learning now this is not the case, and so would she not be participating in Rounds 2 & 4, I withdraw the offer of Burrell racing in F3 Americas.

Having further considered my position, I am willing to allow Burrell to compete in selected events of the F3 Americas championship, but only those which do not fall foul of the European schedule + 2 week rule. She will accept an offer of this type from North Star if they are willing to offer it.

North Star is willing to accept this offer.

As it makes my job easier, I also accept this offer. :P

I have completed the missing lineups, provisionally at least. They are:

Carrera Granada #93: José Sierra (Real-life)
North Star Racing Canada #17 (rounds 2, 4, 8 & 10): Gennaro Ciampa (Pinkd56)
TE Connectivity Andretti Autosport #28: Adoni Okalani (Free agency)
TE Connectivity Andretti Autosport #29: Rayyan Amirmoez (Normal32)
Mazzacane Motorsport #39: Thiago Mazzacane (pi314159)
Mazzacane Motorsport #40: Facundu Garese (Real-life)
Genesis Engineering Canada #98: Rodrigo Pflucker (Real-life)
Genesis Engineering Canada #99: Pietronella Addiks (Free agency)

Drivers in italics are included without the permission of their DEC owners (Pi in other words) and as such will not be run without said permission first. In the cases of Addiks and Okalani, I will expect the usual free agency protocol to be followed.

Once everything is out of the way I will run the first half-season (yes, you read that correctly) at the earliest convenient opportunity.

Yes, I'll run Thiago Mazzacane at Mazzacane Motorsport, and since no one showed interest in the second Mazzacane seat, Garese can have the it.

Apologies for my Partial absence from involvement here as my new PC is taking an ass long time to be fixed and I should warned about it sooner on the "Nipping out" Thread.

Mr-Sierra sounds good. He did very well in Mexican Karting according to Driver Database. Granada will keep him.

I would like to request a pre-season driver swap: Rayyan Amirmoez for ... well, pretty much any driver in the series, really. Canon Andretti is run with a "gimmick" of focusing on drivers from the Americas, so a Lybian does not fit the bill. Do not care about the quality of the received driver, only his or her nationality.

This is a perfectly acceptable justification and will duly be taken into consideration.

Rayyan Amirmoez will swap seats with Rodrigo Pflucker.

Team Pelfrey would like to announce Flynn Lazier as the nominated reserve driver for the team

The first five weekends are all complete, and the championship is as follows: https://formularejects.com/wiki/2019_FI ... ampionship

No surprises at the sharp end as it looks like Roth could win both F3 championships this year. Team standings will follow, whether from me or a volunteer, but there will be no prizes for guessing who's at the top.

Since Puerta is clearly being a waste of time and effort, we'll be moving Flinn Lazier up into the seat with Puerta being reserve driver

That was just a mistake on my part while I was doing up the championship table. My apologies. :)

That won't be so easy, I'm afraid:

Wizzie wrote:Driver name and nationality: Antonio Didac Puerta (VEN)
DEC owner (if applicable): Wazzle
Performance clause: None
Replacement driver (if needed): Whoever's available

No performance clause, no grounds for dismissal. :(

Like with Star Mazda, I've created a wiki page for the 2020 season of F3 Americas so people can begin taking care of driver lineups as they choose, or put a driver on the "uncontracted" list to make everyone's lives easier.

Angelica Lopez will be fired from Carrera Granada after the Buenos Aires Grand Prix and will be formally replaced from the Tropican Grand Prix by AR 2.0 Driver Jazmin Caldeiro with Pi's Permission.

I'm afraid I can't do that.

No performance clause was included in Lopez' contract. Without one, she can't be replaced. Admittedly, the reason I included this rule was because I was originally going to do the whole season in one go; I merely went ahead to prove that this kind of series can work (future iterations will likely not be run with the same immediacy) and stopped at Mexico in case one of the Eurasian drivers gets injured in that series. Much as I would love to oblige, I kind of need to uphold the rules I put in place before the season.

Re: QuickSim: 2019 F3 Americas - Roth almost didn't win

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

The inaugural F3 Americas season is finished. This time, Roth did win in spite of Konrad Czaczyk's best efforts. The final standings: https://formularejects.com/wiki/2019_FI ... ampionship

Don't forget also that the 2020 wiki page is open for anyone to start putting together their lineups: https://formularejects.com/wiki/2020_FI ... hip_season
