Excellent results from that driver signing; now it's time to hoover up some sponsors so that we can afford to mount a title bid.

I still think that was one of the most outlandish scams, ever.

Your sponsors paid you fifteen million of the Queen's pounds to run your 1984 campaign, and then as soon as the money was in your account, you stuck two fingers up at them!

Yeah, it wasn't supposed to work out like that until I properly had a look at just how dreadful the '84 car was. And in fairness, I think it's worked out pretty well - we sank millions into the '85 car and if I play my cards right now we could be right in the Championship fight. A bit better than the real-life M185.

I completely see why the sponsors might have been a bit peeved with us though. They didn't get much screen-time in the end.

At the end of the day, my only real concern are the welfare and prospects of the Minardi Formula One team.

Engine Signing - Set Two (Of Two)
Hello and welcome to the final phase of engine signing, and the final phase of signing anything for 1985, now! After this, we'll soon be going racing~!

Teams without an engine deal for 1985 who need to submit their wishlist are:
  • McLaren
  • Brabham
  • Lotus
  • Williams
  • Arrows
  • Ligier
  • Lola (will receive a 25% discount on the price offered, due to being a single-car entry)

Engine prices are non-negotiable. To submit your interest in an engine deal, simply state the engine manufacturer, unit/model name, and deal you would prefer, like this:

Code: Select all

My team would like to sign one of the below engine suppliers, in order of preference:
Renault EF4B - Customer
Honda RA165E - Semi-Works
Ford Cosworth DFY - Works

What do these deal types mean?

Works engine deals…
  • Do allow you to dictate the direction of the engine's development.
  • Engine development & testing is available to you.

Here's the second batch of 1985 liveries, following the conclusion of sponsor signing:
BMW:
Image
(I've had to think completely originally on this one, with an entirely clean slate! Trust me, it was awful.)
Ferrari:
Image
Minardi:
Image
(You may notice that the M185's sidepods a a bit larger than in real-life, to accomodate the massive Ferrari 015T lump)
Tyrrell:
Image
(Curse you, sidepod vent! It would have had a nice large Canon logo like the RL Williams otherwise)
Toleman:
Image
(Strangely, this looks far better than the RL Barclay Arrows design for some reason)

The RAM and Alfa will be completed soon-ish and then I am just waiting on engine signing...

UPDATE: here's the RAM:

UPDATE #2: and here's the Alfa:

(Looks like a poor man's Osella, and in all honesty I never thought I'd ever write that, even on this site)

As neither John Watson nor Nigel Mansell can lay claim to much in the way of German ancestry, I must scratch this bid from the Brabham team.

While designing the liveries, I had an idea- considering the point of this site, it might be interesting to see which drivers/teams unrejectify themselves in this simulation, (or stay as rejects) contrary to reality. As such I have compiled these statistics for 1984 and going into 1985, primarily as I have absolutely nothing to do.

1984:
Reject Drivers prior to the season
Ayrton Senna
Stefan Bellof
Desire Wilson
Pierluigi Martini
Martin Brundle
Thierry Boutsen
Alessandro Nannini
Manfred Winklehock
Chico Serra
Philippe Streiff
Stefan Johansson
Piercarlo Ghinzani
Roberto Guerrero
Guido Dacco
Corrado Fabi (not elgible for points in '84)
(this has to be a record...)

Reject Constuctors prior to the season
ATS
Osella
Spirit
RAM
Minardi

Driver Unrejectifications in 1984
Martin Brundle (South Africa, 3rd)
Desire Wilson (San Marino, 1st)
Pierluigi Martini (Monaco, 4th)
Stefan Bellof (Britain, 4th)
Stefan Johansson (Austria, 2nd)
Alessandro Nannini (Italy, 4th)
Ayrton Senna (Italy, 6th)

Constructor Unrejectifications in 1984
ATS (Canada, 5th and 6th)

1985

Reject Drivers prior to the season
Thierry Boutsen
Manfred Winklehock
Teo Fabi
Corrado Fabi
Alain Ferte
Philippe Streiff
Christian Danner

Reject Constructors prior to the season
BMW (yes, i'm counting them the same way as Toleman/Benetton/Renault/Lotus/Renault)
Minardi
Osella
Spirit
RAM
Zakspeed
Lola

This page will be updated as drivers and teams unrejectify themselves over the season (hopefully...)

UPDATE: 1985 has now had its first unrejectification, Minardi
UPDATE 2: BMW has now unrejectified itself for a second consecutive season, having done so as ATS last year. This also unrejectifies their driver, Manfred Winklehock, the first to do so this season.

Driver Unrejectifications in 1985:
Manfred Winklehock (Samba (German), 3rd)

Constructor Unrejectifications in 1985:
Minardi (Britain, 2nd)
BMW (Samba (German), 3rd)

Thank you for this data! I look forward to reading it again by the end of the season, although I understand that it is a lot of work to keep updated.

I have provided a link to your specific post in the post at the start of this thread, so people can get back here a bit lively in future.

And thank you also for the lovely liveries ;). They seem to feature just a touch~, of loveartistic license, a little bit~!

The Motori Moderni Tipo 615-90 engine will go unused, for 1985 .

Setting Direction of Engines' Development
Before we go racing, we just need to do a tiny bit of housekeeping.

Now that everyone has got an engine supplier sorted out, works engine teams need to pick the direction of their engine's development.

We need to do this, because otherwise the following could happen:
  1. A works and semi-works team are signed for an engine supplier.
  2. By default, all directions of development are 'not set'.
  3. After race one, only the semi-works team performs engine D&T (in the works team's direction of development).
  4. Null pointer exception.

Works teams (or in the absence of a works team, the manufacturer) are free to change the direction of their engine any time - and however many times - they like, throughout the season; simply let me know with a post in this thread.

Honda - once again - did not offer a works contract, opting to retain control over their engine, no matter what. They have chosen to increase the reliability of their engine, and therefore any development done on the engine by McLaren will be in that direction.

The direction of all works engines in use for 1985 are listed below the 'Re-use of Legacy Car' section, at the start of the thread.

Possible directions of engine development:
  • Increase horsepower
  • Reduce weight
  • Increase reliability

To set the direction of your works engine's development, simply do so like this:

Code: Select all

MyTeam would like to set the direction of MyEngine's development to: reduce weight.

The following teams need to set the direction of development of their works engines:
  • Brabham (Porsche TTE PO1)
  • Ferrari (Ferrari Tipo 031/2)
  • Alfa Romeo (Alfa Romeo 890T)
  • BMW (BMW M14)
  • Minardi (Ferrari 015T)
  • Zakspeed (Zakspeed 1500/4)
