Wait, wait, wait. I've got this all wrong. This series is to take place in 2018, not 2019, so the end of season AR2.0 test is pointless anyway.

As a consequence, that actually clears things up nicely because I'll put both of my new drivers into the Jones team and they can still fight it out at the AR2.0 test to see which might get promoted.

So, 2018 F4 Jones drivers:
#3 - Joao Almeida (POR)
#4 - Harry Matthews (GBR)

Apologies for the faffing.

Championship standings

As before, context needs to be provided in the case of some results. Ken Wyn Jones' run of bad luck continued when he was beaten off the line by Casciaro in race 1 and then broke his front wing in an attempt to re-pass him at Campbell, dropping him once again to last place.

As with Jones, Mann got a poor start in race 2 and was 4th by the end of the first lap. She soon found her pace again and had just overtaken Davies when she began to slow down.

Sebastian Priaulx was meanwhile very impressive in race 2. He actually lost places at the start and was soon running outside the points, only to claw his way back up to 6th place.

There was also a big moment when Vantini scraped Campbell-Bannerman's stricken car at Club, luckily with no damage.

As Ginevra Vantini had a scare in the last race and banged her wrist she is going to be rested and (new) British racing licence holder Nakaguri Morioka (Barii Mori's 15 year old nephew) will take her place in the next race at least.

Approved.

Silverstone will be run tomorrow, just a heads-up for anyone else who's feeling in the mood for some change.

Championship standings

Campbell-Bannerman was running an excellent 7th before having to pit with a loose wheel in race 1. Race 1 also saw some drama as both Descoteaux and Matthews retired from 2nd and 3rd places within 2 laps of the end.

On the subject of Campbell-Bannerman:

Autosport wrote:Campbell-Bannerman Handed Suspended Race Ban

Harold Campbell-Bannerman has been given a fine and a suspended race ban for ignoring black and orange flags in the second F4 race at Silverstone. The Macmillan driver's engine went up in smoke, obscuring the vision of both Nakaguri Morioka and Isabel Martins behind him for a number of corners. He refused to slow down or pull into the pits, and circulated for nearly a full lap before the engine finally died at Copse Corner.

And on the subject of engines:

motorsport.com wrote:F4 Organisers Slam Ford "Timebombs"

This weekend's F4 racing at Silverstone was one where quite a number of drivers' aspirations went up in smoke, as the 1.6-litre Ford EcoBoost engines powering their cars couldn't handle the stress of the airfield circuit's long straights. MSA chairman Alan Gow expressed his bemusement: "It's quite ridiculous that Ford seem to have been unable to build an engine that can last 20 minutes out on the circuit. They seemed to be running fine at Brands Hatch, but when it comes to the fast airfield circuits they become timebombs."

It is understood that more reliable units will be introduced in time for the next round at Oulton Park.

Sebastian Priaulx's place at Christopherson Racing has been put under threat, given the Guernseyman's poor form and limited budget he brings to the British team.

Priaulx has a single points finish to his name, in Race 3 of the series, and has been well behind the points paying positions in his other 5 races so far.

It seems he isn't paying much for his seat, as rumours are lingering that the Christopherson team will relieve Priaulx of his position in the team, to be replaced by a heavily backed youngster from the notorious island of Tropico. Alessandro Linari is believed to be negotiating with the British team given Priaulx's weak position in the team at present.

It appears that anything other than a very marked improvement at the next race weekend - to the point of matching his consistently points scoring team-mate Imani Burrell - will see Priaulx depart the team.

Christopherson Racing have announced they will be parting ways with their driver Sebastian Priaulx, with the Guernseyman struggling for funding, as well as for results.

The former Ginetta Juniors driver has struggled to keep up with team-mate Imani Burrell thus far, and as a result appears to be suffering from sponsorship troubles.

"We regret to announce we are parting ways with Sebastian Priaulx with immediate effect," read a team statement. "Due to the current circumstances, it has not been possible to continue our relationship beyond the Oulton Park round of the championship. We thank him for his contribution to the team and wish him the best for the future."

The team is expected to announce a replacement shortly.

It is common for drivers from the American continent to travel to the British Isles to begin a path towards top-level motorsport. Another young Tropican, Xavier Santillán, has made his first step towards a career in racing, following in the footsteps of the almighty Alberto Cara, has sailed for the shores of the UK, joining the Christopherson Racing in the island's national Formula 4 series.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Xavier to get a foothold in global motorsport," said Tropican Motorsport Federation president Alessandro Linari. "I know talent when I see it. Drivers I scouted when they were as young as him are now race winners in the best racing series in the world. Xavier has the talent to do great things, all thanks to the tireless effort of El Presidente, and continuing investment of time and resources into our national motorsport programme."

His new team-mate comes from an island not too far north by plane, the island of Bermuda. Imani Burrell's consistent points-scoring form indicates the team which has been entrusted with providing Santillán with his equipment is capable of delivering for the prodigious young driver.

Santillán will make his single seater debut on June 23, where the series makes its sole trip to Northern Ireland.

The first trip to the Emerald Isle has been completed, results and championship standings to be found here: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes for those not present for the live call

  • John-Paul Casciaro had had a poor start in race 1, and was running in the middle of the top ten at the time of his retirement
  • As Casciaro slowed down to retire his car, Ken Wyn Jones slammed into the back of him. There was no serious damage
  • Imani Burrell finished 8th on the road in race 1, but was given a ten-second time penalty for almost taking Joao Almeida out in the hairpin. Burrell got past with no damage to either car, but Almeida was almost taken off the circuit, and lost two places as a result
  • In race 2, Jemma Triggs had been fighting her way into the points after starting a disappointing 13th, before reliability gremlins struck
  • Harold Campbell-Bannerman was robbed of another points finish, retiring from 10th place with a water leak

First of all, we must congratulate Alex Smith for his acclimatization to the open-wheel car competition (after two years of Karting). He won a race and make three podiums. He is now sixth of the championship and we can only encourage him to continue its efforts for the rest of this season.
About John Murdoch, the step karting - open-wheel has been more difficult to cross. A single entry in the points (six arrivals outside and three retirements). He must continue his efforts appreciated by the management until the end of this season.
The team goes to increase its efforts to provide its pilots a car with a better ajustement, for better reliability and a performance in line with targets.

The trip to Wales has been completed, and the championship situation is as follows: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes for those not present for the live call

  • Belcher was running inside the top ten at the time of his retirement in race 1
  • Mann had a dreadful start from pole in race 2 and was 5th by the first corner. She didn't pick up the pace and was running 7th at the time of her retirement
  • Burrell was not penalised this time, she actually did finish outside the top ten in race 1. Now The Streak™ really is over :(
  • Calinetic were running Daley in a relatively underfueled car, which necessitated some very conservative driving from the Jamaican in both races, actually having to park the car right after crossing the finish line in race 2

A motoring publication that for legal reasons must not be named wrote:Minimum age to be introduced in Anglo-Irish F4 Championship

It was announced by Anglo-Irish F4 organisers today that from 2019 onwards prospective drivers for the entry level series will need to be at least fifteen years old. This announcement comes after some figures have expressed worry about the readiness of some of the younger drivers in the series in making the step up to single seaters. Some who are currently below the proposed age limit, such as Clara Descoteaux and karting ace Harry Thompson, have been struggling to achieve good results all year in the spec series, but others - most notably championship frontrunner Sabrina Mann - have been achieving impressive results from the beginning, prompting speculation as to the real reason behind this ruling. Recently, organisers of the Ginetta Junior Championship have made comments to the effect of feeling threatened by the presence of a single seater formula that is not affected by the minimum age limit usually enforced in such a series. Traditionally, Ginetta Juniors has served as a stepping stone for karting graduates who were too young to participate in British Formula 3, but now with the existence of the new Formula 4 there have been fears that the Ginetta Junior Championship would be rendered obsolete.

Re: 2018 Anglo-Irish Formula 4 - Knockhill up!

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

A very wet pair of races at Knockhill have been run, results and championship standings:
http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes for those not present for the live call

Race 1

  • Davies was 6th on the road in race 1, but nearly took Mann out at the last corner. He has been given a ten-second penalty, which drops him only one place
  • Speaking of Mann, she spun off in the rain
  • Smith spun while running inside the top ten at the first corner, rejoining in last
  • Both Matthews and Daley had big crashes at the chicane, necessitating an injury RNG, which will be detailed further below

Race 2

  • Casciaro got a poor getaway from 2nd on the grid and spun off early on. He rejoined in last place
  • Davies was pressuring Mann for the lead before making a mistake and dropping a few places
  • There were two more hefty impacts: Murdoch was another victim of the chicane, while Morioka had a massive crash at turn 1 on the final lap. Another injury RNG will have to be run, I'm afraid
  • On a slightly humorous note, Harry Thompson spun off on the slowdown lap

Injury RNGs

The four crash victims had similar accidents, so they will get the same RNG:

1-50 - He's fine, don't worry about it
51-75 - Might want to sit out the rest of the weekend, he's a bit shaken (for race 1 accidents)
51-75 - Minor injury, should be okay to race in Donington (race 2 accidents)
76-100 - Might want to sit this one out, and Donington too

Matthews: 88

Daley: 73

Murdoch: 19

Morioka: 99

RNG is feeling particularly merciless today, Daley was forced to miss only race two with mild concussion, but Matthews has suffered a broken wrist, which will take some time to heal. He'll have to miss the British Grand Prix support race, as will Morioka. Murdoch, however, is totally unhurt, and will be fit to race at Donington.

So, in summary, I will need AndreaModa and SuperAguri to nominate replacements for their respective drivers for the Donington event. Take as much time as you need.

May also worth bearing in mind that there is no clash between AI F4 and Italian F4 on Donnington weekend, so temporary replacements could easily be sourced from there.

Dear Nigerian Team Falik Arrows

You might like to look for a REAL African Driver. If so, try Cameroonian Go-Kart Driver Samson Enoh who is interested in filling in. He brings sponsorship backing from Air France. He is 17 years of age and very decent. He is also willing to make the next step. This could be a dream come true.

Sincerly

In the meantime we are bringing back Ginevra Vantini for at least Donnington, if she does well and by well I mean score points then she will do Mondello Park and if she does badly then she will be replaced by Samson Enoh for at least one race.

Following his crash and subsequent injury at the Knockhill round of the Anglo-Irish F4 series, Harry Matthews has been replaced by Ethan Renaud at the Jones Racing team.

Renaud will sub for Matthews at Donington, and team boss Sammy Jones said it would be a great opportunity for the young Frenchman.

"Ethan has a great chance now to prove what he can do. It's an unfortunate way to come into the series but a racing driver should grab every opportunity they're given with both hands. We're really looking forward to seeing what Ethan can do with the car."

Renaud will partner existing Jones driver Joao Almeida for the weekend. The Portuguese driver's best result to date is a seventh place at Pembrey, while Matthews has finished on the podium twice, at Oulton Park and Kirkistown.

The Formula 4 running in support of the British Grand Prix has been completed, results and championship standings: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes for those not present for the live call

Race 1

  • Complete and utter domination by Sabrina Mann, the first person to attain a Grand Slam in the series. Little to report, otherwise...

Race 2

  • This was perhaps the single biggest heartbreak moment of the season: Joao Almeida qualified brilliantly in 2nd place, got a good run off the line and was into the lead before the Old Hairpin. He held a 1.2-second advantage to Mann at the end of the first lap, but then, at the end of lap 2, his engine caught fire
  • Mann and Belcher spent the rest of the race in an enthralling battle for the lead; Belcher was clearly the faster of the two, but made the mistake of trying to overtake at the exact same unsuitable spot for several consecutive laps

Only one race weekend to go...

Up to date results and championship table: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes

Burrell initially led the first race before fighting to protect that position from Tregurtha. He passed her just two laps from the end. A similar battle in the second race between Mann and Casciaro eventually ended with the Gibralatarian stretching out a 5-second lead to win and stay in title contention.

Little to report otherwise, other than Enoh spinning in both races, his second mistake costing him points. Bronson also went into the gravel at turn one in race one, but continued.

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

The first season of Anglo-Irish F4 is now concluded. Congratulations to the new series champion...

...

...

...

Sabrina Mann!

As always, you can find the full results and final championship standings here: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_Ang ... ampionship

Notes

  • Mann pretty much did the bare minimum to secure the title in race one. She lost a lot of places (started 2nd) and, with Casciaro not making any gains on Smith's lead, all she had to do was hold 7th from Tregurtha, which she did.
  • Murdoch (starting 3rd) very improbably got past Mann for the lead briefly in race two, but then he dropped back behind his teammate, who got a slow getaway at the start from 2nd; Smith then set consecutive fastest laps in hunting down and passing Mann.

And that brings the season to a close. I would like to thank everyone for their participation. The 2019 thread will be opened once the other two currently active F4 series have finished their seasons, and also once the 2019 F3 thread has opened, since I'm sure a good number of drivers here are being considered for F3 drives.

There will be changes next season, namely the introduction of a driver improvement system, since, as most of these drivers are growing teenagers, there is plenty of room for improvement, and there is still hope that the likes of Adrian Hegarty and Guillaume Laurier can stand on the top of the podium. What form this system will take is yet to be decided.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, drivers must be 15 years old at the start of the season. Luckily, all of the 2018 drivers that I know of (with the possible exception of Harry Thompson, whose DOB is unknown to me) will be 15 or over next year. However, I will ask that from next year all fictional drivers have a Wiki page containing a birthdate at the very least, just so I can easily confirm their ages.

There will also be a more rigid structure to the calendar: From 2019 on the calendar will consist of four British circuits and four Irish circuits, one of which (rotated between the two islands annually) will host the opening and closing races of the season. This year it was Britain, so next year it will be Ireland that hosts the first and last race meetings. To complete the calendar will be a support programme for the British Grand Prix, just as there has been this year.
