Whilst both drivers were struggling, Bottas was having a particularly torrid time - his best time is actually a few hundredths slower than his best Q3 time from last year.

Symonds has cited problems with getting their tyres into the correct temperature range as the reason they're so far off the pace, and that was in the relatively warm practise sessions. With the temperature having only fallen further since then, it looks as if they've been especially badly caught out, and I doubt that things will be much better if the race is equally cold.

I hope so as I've put a couple of quid on him getting a podium!
Which has probably jinxed it....

A podium is perhaps a long shot, but a decent points finish does seem to be a distinct possibility - he's generally been setting times that would put him in the lower half of the top 10, so the car does seem to be more competitive than it has been for a while.

All he needs to do is overtake a few cars.... at Monaco. Simples

With regards to scoring points, Button is starting in 10th place due to the fact that Grosjean and Sainz Jr both have grid penalties - even if he merely maintained his position, that already puts him on for a prospective points finish.

With regards to passing other cars, I was thinking more in terms of their strategic options rather than actually passing on track. I can see McLaren trying to get ahead of Verstappen and Maldonado by taking advantage of the fact that, this year, McLaren seems to have a slight advantage in terms of tyre management over those two, and could potentially afford to stop Button slightly earlier in order to undercut them.

What was Hulkenberg trying to achieve there?

Maybe getting a win for Williams is a curse in the 21st century? I mean Montoya, Ralfie and Maldonado.

Maldonado's luck is REALLY making me: ImageImageImageImageImageImage and then some!

Apologies, I should have gone in Rantbox to post this but not even Chris Amon has had this level of sh!t happen to him in just 6 races.

That was a mindless move from Hulkenberg to cut over into Alonso like that... what did he expect Alonso was going to do, disappear?! I guess when you are only good enough for WEC you do stuff like that...

This race is dull like practically every year. I guess we all hope for 1996 or something like that.

Oh Merhi. Rookie error.

The only thing that ever makes Monaco bearable is attrition and apart from the luckless Maldonado there isn't any. Bathplug modern F1

Plus Verstappen got screwed over at his pitstop. When will he finish in the points again? This has largely been another dull race. No race-changing incidents since the start, top 3 are the same as always, there has only been one retirement so far and that is for the driver who needed it the least. And now Alonso drops out!

I know Mercedes claim that the Ferrari lump is actually more powerful, but watching Nicos car squat and walk away from Vetted through the tunnel, I call bullshite.

EDIT: I love Versappen. Using Vetted to clear the road. And sets the second fastest lap of the race doing it!
