Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2015 Malaysia

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until April 3.

My picks:
1. Vettel
2. Merhi

1. Ferrari - Not only did Vettel have a perfect race, but Kimi drove all the way from the back of the field to 4th after that puncture. They're back.

2. Roberto Merhi - Yeah boy! :D

Vettel - It's been a long time since we saw a Ferrari crossing the finish line first, and I never thought I would enjoy this sight as much as I do now :D
STR - pulled off some good moves, finished ahead of seasoned RBR drivers. Enough said.

Honourable Mention goes to Merhi and Manor in general. They have finished the race! Doesn't matter that it was their only car on the field, and they were well off the pace. The grit and prowess is there, and these values mean a lot in our "bustling community of largely like-minded failure-aficionados" ;)

1. Sebastian Vettel - Beat the Mercedes on pace
2.Max Verstappen - Showed Maturity well beyond his age made several good passes against more experience drivers

Honourable mention Kimi Raikkonen - Finishing 4th despite having to to do a lap with a puncture and proves that pitstops should be set by lap but when you catch a Force India

I'm perhaps going to go a little against the current here:
1. Verstappen - withstood considerable pressure at times with considerably maturity, managed to have a clean race when several other much more experienced drivers lost their heads and managed to pull off some quite nice passes too (I imagine that the parent team must have been pretty glum when they were passed by both Toro Rosso's).
2. Raikkonen - whilst Vettel's performance out front has caught attention, I actually think that Kimi did the better job in recovering his position given that he had to work his way back through the field, especially considering that Kimi's car would probably have suffered from a damaged floor and bodywork when the tyre carcass tore apart.

1) Ferrari: Not only did Vettel beat both Mercedes guys but Räikkönen also had a great race rising to 4th after awful start.

2) Toro Rosso: About maximum performance from them, beating Red Bull and anyone else that doesn´t drive with top three teams. Not bad from two rookies!

1) Vettel - not his biggest fan, but he wiped the floor with an over-confident Mercedes team. Good job.
2) Raikkonen - unlucky, but blimey, what a recovery! Imagine what he could have done without the first lap issues.

1 - Toro Rosso: For finishing ahead of the RBRs. Verstappen became the youngest driver to score and Sainz recovered 7 places in his recond race, which is damn impressive.
2 - Merhi: Well done boy. You made this old forum proud.

1. Kimi - although a little bit of this might me paying penance for spending the last year or so as a hardbitten Kimi skeptic convinced that he had all but given up.

2.Verstappen - Sainz put in a good, solid performance as well (and they both did well to leave the Red Bull's behind), but I was pretty impressed with some of his bold passes.

HM to Seb, and I was pretty impressed with the fact that Bottas and Massa were still racing each other a lap or two from the end.

1. Ferrari (yes that includes Kimi as well getting to P4 from all his delays). Bet Alonso is as sick as a parrot.

2. Joint between Max Verstappen and Toro Rosso as a whole (as both cars beat both Red Bulls).

1. Max Verstappen. Finally the Dutch have a right of being chauvinistic in F1 again!
2. Sebastian Vettel. I didn't expect him to be this strong this season. Very nice win by him.

HM: Raikkonen for making it to 4th after lots of bad luck, Toro Rosso in general for finishing with both cars ahead of RBR and Merhi for finishing.

1)Ferrari: It only took Arribavene 2 races to put the team back into buisness. Seb and Kimi showed that they can battle the Mercs all year without sweating. It's the return of Il Cavallino Rampante.

2)Toro Rosso: The junior Red Bull team just teach their seniors a lesson in quality.

Honorable mentions to Roberto Mehri (got to the flag and have more KMs than Fernando Alonso :o) and Max Verstappen (the kid drives like a seasoned pro)

2) Roberto Merhi: He actually finished in a race where both McLarens failed to.

1. Räikkönen. As impressive as Vettel's win was, you have to remember that the other Ferrari had to drive around on three wheel for almost an entire lap and still finished 4th. Also, makes everyone who said last year that Kimi is way past it look like a fool. :P

2. Toro Rosso. Beat the "mother" team on merit wiith two rookies.

Going with the consensus here for these nominations:

1) Sebastien Vettel - Seb proved that given the right conditions he can extract the most out of the Ferrari and challenge the Mercs for the win. Phenomenal drive today, only question that remains is whether or not Ferrari can come out and challenge Mercedes every weekend.

2) Max Verstappen - There is no way you could tell this guy is just 17 years of age. Beautiful drive.

1. Sebastian Vettel - Didn't believe he would win second race of the season and even less that he would do so fair and square. Not because his abilities but because of Ferrari.

2. Toro Rosso - Two Toro Rossos ahead of two Red Bulls. That's enough.

Going to go with the flow here:

1.Sebastian Vettel- The first time since Brazil 2013 (Vettel won that too) that the Mercs were beaten fair and square, fantastic drive. :D
2.Kimi Raikkonen- Fantastic recovery, if not for the puncture we might have seen a Ferrari 1-2, I think both drivers silenced a lot of their 2014 critics today.

Honourable mentions to Manor, Max Verstappen, and Williams for the late battle between Massa and Bottas

1. Ferrari - not only was Vettel's win controlled and convincing, Raikkonen hauled his way up to 4th despite his troubles, showing that Ferrari didn't just out-think Mercedes but out-raced them too.

2. Verstappen - a 7th place finish as a rookie is good in anyone's books. 17 years old and can overtake sensibly too.
