RIP Bjorn Waldegard

Post by eagleash »

For anyone old enough to remember when rallying was something other than short blasts on special stages, the first WRC (1979), who also competed in the 1960s & right up till 1990, Bjorn Waldegard has passed away at age just 70. He had been suffering from cancer.

That's a shame. Good rally car driver that went through the Classic, Group B, and Group A eras. Rest in Peace.

I have little sadness, only comfort. Unlike some, Bjorn was able to not only participate in, but still be successful in the thing he loved most all the way until the end. He still had a long and rich innings.

RIP Bjorn Waldegard.

Sonic06, please do your research a little bit more thoroughly in future. Although the WRC did indeed start in 1973, it was purely a manufacturer's championship from 1973 to 1978, so Bjorn Waldegard was indeed the first WRC driver's champion in 1979. And adding 'anyway' to RIP sounds a bit disrespectful.

RIP Bjorn Waldegard.
