You know how you sometimes want to convince someone to watch motorsport with you and don't know how? You know how you want to watch a good race but have no idea which race which you haven't watched yet to watch? You know how you want to get into a new racing series and want to watch the best race from that series to get you hyped?

Well, good news: this is what this thread is for.

Every two weeks, we will vote for one of ten suggested races and add that race to a growing collection of the best races our sport has to offer.

Since we don't have any time to waste and I don't think there is anything else to talk about right now, so let's get the nomination phase going.

The Rules:
We are talking about car races, which for this purpose are defined as races done with vehicles that have at least four tyres (so no MotoGP etc.)
    Only one nomination per user
Races must at least be a month old to eligible
Only races that are fully available on video somewhere are eligible

Fill out this sheet and we are good to go:
User:
Nominated Race: Official designation of the race
Date: Date of the race
Race track: Where the race took place
Video: Since we don't want to get our overlords into trouble, please only include a video link from official channels. If you don't have those, send the link to the video (or the site where you can download said race without registering an account) to formularejects.com, note in this field that you did, and I will take care of the rest
Reason for nomination: You don't need to say something, but it'll help your chances if you include why this race should be on our list.

Nominations are open until Friday 8, 2 a.m. CEST or until we've reached ten nominations.

Nominated Race: 1992 Indianapolis 500
Date: May 24th, 1992
Race track: Indianapolis 500
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxgNywvxWyg
Spoiler Warning:
Reason for nomination: First of all, this race had the closest finish in the history of the Indy 500, as Al Unser, Jr. barely won over Scott Goodyear. Not only that, but these two also had a great battle for the lead over the last laps. Before that, we had Michael Andretti demolishing the entire field in his Lola-Ford. But fate would strike again for the Andrettis, as Michael's car failed with just 11 laps to go. It wasn't a good race for the Andretti clan anyway, as Mario and Jeff Andretti crashed out of the race. This race had plenty of crashes anyway, but no one was luckily hurt. It also featured one of the most rejectful moments in IndyCar history, as pole sitter Roberto Guerrero spun out during the warm-up lap! This race was also the last 500 for legends like Rick Mears, Gordon Johncock, Tom Sneva or A.J. Foyt. Then there were veterans like Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Arie Luyendyk or Bobby Rahal. Then there were upcoming guys like Scott Goodyear or Eddie Cheever. Hell, just check the grid for that race: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Indianapolis_500#Grid
Bottom line: If you want a great piece of evidence about what was so good about the CART days, don't miss out on this race!

Technically nothing stops me from nominating and I'll do it this time.

Nominated Race: DTM Norisring 2013
Date: 14/07/2013
Race track: Norisring, Germany
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phDl9MuIl7U
Reason for nomination: As disappointing as the developments post-race were, the race itself was a modern classic from all accounts.

Nominated race: 2001 BTCC Round 26
Date: 7th October 2001
Race track: Brands Hatch Indy
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m7sB-Q4CqI (from 23:50 onwards)
Reason for nominating: A title decider between two drivers who absolutely HATE each other (Yvan Muller and Jason Plato), both in the same type of car (Vauxhall Astra Coupe) at the final race of the season. Add in some biblical weather conditions, and you've got a cracker in the making.

(I would've nominated BTCC Silverstone 1992 before this one, but videos of it appear to be rather elusive :( )

Nominated race: 1993 Indycar New England 200
Date: 8th August 1993
Race Track: New Hampshire International Speedway
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et__2iqEcFQ
Reason for nominating: Surely the best oval race during CART's golden era. With Mansell, Tracy and Fittipaldi in a straight fight for the victory, it's regarded as a Indycar classic.
It's a shame most oval races in Indycar today are doing bad financially and may disappear, because as this race will show they can be great.

Date: 29th August 2009
Race Track: Chicagoland Speedway
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I7G06Dp7fs
Reason for nominating: Another very exciting race in Chicagoland Speedway from IndyCar, which now the track is gone from the calendar thanks to ISC issues.

Nominated Race: 1997 Gateway 300
Date: July 26, 1997
Race track: Gateway International Raceway, Madison, IL
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcC4uU1jA30
Reason for nomination: A race full of complete carnage with extreme temperatures with air temperatures at 97F and track temperatures at 141F. 14 cautions for 81 laps and Kevin Lepage finished 12th despite having lost his fuel pump and being 5 laps down. Only 5 of the 23 retirements were due to mechanical failures as crashes ravaged the field of 42 drivers and the track was breaking apart due to the extreme heat. Either way, the race was so bad it was fun to watch.

I would normally submit the 1978 US Nationals (Final Rounds Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHS1VH8-dOY) which featured Bob Glidden's Fairmont (which never lost a ROUND much less a race) and the Monoo$e Tom Mcquen finally winning the US Nationals, one week after his son died.

But since I want a hope in hell of winning......

Nominated Race: 2001 Pepsi 400
Date: July 4th Weekend, 2001
Race track: Daytona
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPV5DEFWOCQ
Reason for nomination: Where to begin? The first race at Daytona after Seniors Death (which shoke NASCAR far worse than Senna's Death shoke F1) which shortly followed Tony Roper's and Blaise Alexander's fatal accidents an led to a series of rules changes. And Dale Jr. of all people, drives like his old man and wins, passing a bunch of cars on the last laps, and celebrating in the infield. The result was so well recieved there was cheering in the press box, a big no-no. Bonus points for the post race controversy where a few drivers accused NASCAR of rigging the race. Jimmy Spencer went so far as to DEMAND to see Juniors plate, so sure he was of the fix. Nothing came of it though.

Nominated Race: 2006 GP2 Series Istanbul Park Sprint Race
Date: 2006/08/27
Race track: Istanbul Park, Turkey
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foZtaVeAJFg
Reason for nomination: One of the greatest comeback races of all time - Lewis Hamilton spins early on and drops to the back of the field, yet proceeds to make his rivals look pretty ordinary as he recovers.

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?
