The 2014 'Super Time! For Super-Susie' British GP Thread
Re: The 2014 'Super Time! For Super-Susie' British GP Thread
It seemed like Kimi hit something coming back onto the track causing the initial crash. Hats off to Massa for his avoiding action though. I do hope Kimi is ok.

I presume this race will be restarted under the SC. Either way, this is the first time the race has been red-flagged due to a 1st lap accident since Hockenheim 2001 with Schumi and Burti's crash. Hopefully we'll have another standing start to restart this race.

Is it bad that I didn't realize they'd changed the rules from when a race red-flagged in the 1st 2 laps would be restarted in original grid order?

Nasty, nasty shunt. The fact that Kimi was limping worries me, he isn't the kind of a guy who'd lean on someone unless he was really hurting
EDIT: Mario, my post was completely called for! And if someone is a bathplugging idiot, don't sweep it under the mat, let it stay and let people ridicule him. That's justice.

It was a very heavy crash into unprotected barriers, not to mention the secondary impact as Massa clipped his car (Massa did well to avoid hitting the side of Kimi's car given the closing speed and with one of the Caterham's blocking his view). The fact that he could get out of the car unaided is a good sign but, as you said, the fact he was limping is a worry - I hope that it is nothing more severe than bruising.

Re: The 2014 'Super Time! For Super-Susie' British GP Thread
Looking from Alonso's incar camera, Kimi's car was VERY nervous going through the preceding corners, having a small scuffle with a Sauber, and simply lost grip halfway through the turn sliding wide. Then from other cameras shows that the car hit a bump when Kimi tried to rejoin and he became a passenger. Not much he could've done.
According to Ferrari's social media, the first thing Kimi said over the radio after coming to a halt was "Is Felipe alright?".
Class act.
I understand your point of removing it Mario, but Enforcer deserves flak for posting crap like that.

BBC commentator just reported that the medical centre has said that Kimi has no broken bones, but they want to X-Ray his ankle regardless.

Glad to see that Kimi seems more or less OK. Typical though that the second time I manage to actually catch a race live this season gets delayed and I'm out of the house as of 3!

As you say, it's a nice sign that Kimi asked how Massa was (and Massa in turn seems to have been asking whether Kimi was OK).

So will the race be finished by time and not by laps with this delay?

According to the rules, Red flag time doesn't count into the 2 hour limit, BUT the race time + red flag time cannot exceed 4 hours. So we still got an hour to spare

Niki Lauda thinks it's ridiculous for the race to be stopped for 1 hour, even if you account for the barrier repair. I for one agree with him. 15 years ago it would take 20-30 minutes to restart after a crash e.g. Belgium 1998 and Britain 1999.

However, in those races the barriers were a different type - in the 1999 British GP, it was a tyre barrier rather than an armco barrier that was damaged, which is easier to repair.

We will have to see what happens - it sounds as if Mercedes are asking Lewis to take it easy, so evidently they are concerned about the possibility of a similar issue. Even so, a podium finish for Bottas would still be a very respectable result given where he started (and possibly puts Williams up into 4th in the WCC as well).
And that was a hell of a pass by Alonso there - say what you like, that certainly took some nerve to do.

And quite an exchange of words over the radio between the two drivers - no compromise either on or off the track it seems, and I wouldn't be surprised if it rolls over into the post race discussions too.

I dislike him as much as SgtPepper dislikes Vettel but I tip my hat to Hamilton. He needed that and so did the championship battle.
While I'm impressed (Surprised) with how Ricky managed to do a 1 stop it still can't hide the fact that on identical strategies Seb would have absolutely blitzed him today. Seb in turn has finally laid to rest doubts about his overtaking today. Just cut out the complaining mate.

It does seem as if Alonso is perhaps backing down a little from that allegation (claiming that it was a 'heat of the moment' matter), and it doesn't seem to be being investigated by the stewards.
