Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2013 Monaco

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Charles Pic's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until 31-05-2013, I'll do the results then.

1. Nico Rosberg - Didn't put a foot wrong all weekend. By far the best driver out there today.

2. Adrian Sutil - Overtaking! Finally his luck comes good.

Honourable mention to:

Kimi Raikkonen - His last 5/6 laps must have been absolutely mega for him to take the last point.

1. Adrian Sutil. Highly opportunistic throughout the race and was duly rewarded. Brilliant.
2. Kimi Raikkonen. Five places in the fading laps of the Grand Prix. The record run continues.

That wasn't Raikkonen, that was all about the tires. You might as well give the award to Pirelli but not Raikkonen  I mean Gutierrez made a FL after also pitting late and nobody mentions it.

No, I refuse to give any points to Mercedes for not disappearing off the face of the earth. They have a fast car, they are expected to do well each race.

1. Sutil - very surprising run!
2. McLaren - Showed genuine pace. Too bad Perez squandered any chances of a good finish for both cars.

1. Sutil
2. Räikkönen. Yes he had new tyres, but you still have to make the moves. At Monaco. And not take out anyone.

While The Reverend put VDG hopes for this one down the toilet in lap 1, plenty of candidates whatsoever.

1.-Adrian Sutil: The romance betwwen Monte Carlo and A-Sut is still strong, and this time, Kimi wasn't there to ruin it. The man has made Loews Hairpin his signature.
2.-Sergio "Checo" Perez: The mexican was the real charger, showing that you can overtake in Nouvelle Chicane aside from Gran Turismo. Shame that his brakes packed before time.

Honorable mentions to McLaren (on the pace today), Mercedes (which didn't fade as usual), and Giedo Van der Garde who did everything he could to hold the miracle of his 14th, until the last SC

The Clash of the Titans Award goes to Adrian Sutil, for two awesome overtakes in the Loews Hairpin against JB and Alonso of all people!

1. Nico Rosberg: Even in Monaco, I didn't expect him to be able to win in a Mercedes. Hamilton did a good job as well. I wonder if Mercedes' good performance was due to the nature of the track or if they have managed to reduce tire wear in general.
2. (shared) Adrian Sutil: He had a good qualifying and an even better race, being one of the few drivers who actually managed to overtake.
Kimi Räikkönen: After his crash with Pérez, I thought his attempt at breaking Schumacher's consecutive points record had failed. However, his last laps were very impressive, managing to overtake not only Chilton and Van der Garde but also Gutiérrez and Hülkenberg (Bottas let him through by mistake).

Adrian Sutil was absolutely sensational. I hoped he would eventually finish in 4th, but still an impressive drive from Adrian there.

1. Sutil - Bold moves. Bad fast. Hats off to you.
2. Checo - He may have caused his own demise, but wow, he was working hard out there.

Honorable mention to GVDG's quali effort.

1. Adrian Sutil: amazing quali, amazing race, truly deserved the result. Kept the pressure up on JB and Alonso, and it all paid off.
2. Kimi Raikkonen: for showing that you can actually push 100 percent even with Pirelli tyres. He was 6.5 seconds quicker than the Hulk on lap 78.

1. Nico Rosberg - Fully deserved the win today, didn't put a foot wrong all weekend, and had the speed edge over Lewis Hamilton
2. Adrian Sutil - Finally got some luck, and those passes at the hairpin were great

Honourable mention

Jean-Eric Vergne - Kept it clean for his joint best finish. He seems to like 8th place finishes.

1. Sutil for beating some better cars with overtakes. I was hoping that he wouldn't be hit from behind in the last few laps knowing his luck...

second place is a bit harder to decide, I'll go for a split vote:
Jean-Eric Vergne for his qualifying effort and had a clean race to finish a worthy eighth
Raikkonen those last 3 laps were amazing, was watching the bottom timing screen and saw his progression from 16th to 10th. I know he had a tyre advantage but passing that many cars in a small amount of time is rare at Monaco

honourable mentions to
GVdG for his awesome qualy
Perez for his aggressive passes until his last one which failed miserably...

1-Sutil--The best drive of his career. Deserved victory methinks.

2-Checo--You want Infinite Improbability? Perez charging up through the field was Infinitely Improbable in my opinion.

1. Sutil. Very nice overtaking, especially at the Fairmont Hairpin!

2. Pérez. Checo was very feisty, and most of the feistyness paid off. As for the final event, I agree with CarlosFerriera in the Rantbox.
