Massive budget rejects!!
Massive budget rejects!!
So Toyota are consigned to history, and their billions bought no wins and a few podiums.
But who are the mega rich rejects of all time?
Jaguar - Ford Groups massive folly and shame on a great brand.
Honda - At least they have won championships with their engine; but as a team they spent a fortune, won nothing and jumped ship while having a great race winning car in the wings; idiots!!
Toyota - The biggest waste of money ever? who walked into a Toyota dealers because they had an F1 team? (so they won nothing and can't even say it helped shift cars!)
BMW - so much promise, such good drivers, no bottle!
And what about further back in time? what of the big money teams we all forgot? Alfa Romeo anyone?

How ironic; Alonso loses because the Renault in front of him doesn't crash, or indeed feel inclined to pull over and let him pass!!!

Peugeot, at least as an engine constructor.
Re: Massive budget rejects!!
Alfa Romeo of the 1980's maybe, go back to the 1950's and they were very successful indeed. Italian teams in the 1950's are what British teams are now.

But Subaru didn't have a massive budget.
Regardless, I re-raise with Yamaha.

Can I wade in with Ferrari when they're not supplying themselves?

I don't think so, because they probably make a conscious effort to de-tune their engines on the way out the door.

Re: Massive budget rejects!!
How expensive was the Lambo effort, back in the days? Chrysler must have paid quite a bit, no? Or was their budget 35p plus lunch for the mechanic?
Stay home, Colin Kolles!

Re: Massive budget rejects!!
Considering the Porsche V12 cost about $1.27 to create (it was just two TAG V6s stuck together) I'm expecting the same sort of effort from Lambo.
Re: Massive budget rejects!!
Ligier from 1987 to 1992 can be considered rejectworthy material. They had a budget higher than Benetton but no worthy results, besides achieving 3 pointless seasons in that interval.

Re: Massive budget rejects!!
Surely with their bailout from F1 confirmed, it has to be Toyota?

Really? Have you got a source for budgets from that era? I'd be very interested in it

Of course I've just realised that the teams that finished first and second this year; Brawn and Red Bull, were previously Honda and Jaguar!
It's not just massive budgets you need to succeed, patience helps too!!!

And you can guarantee BMW would have been back near the top next season if they didnt bail too.
Re: Massive budget rejects!!
The version of Ligier that ran from the mid-80s until the sale to de Rouvre and later Briatore in the early 90s was funded by the French government. They were the Toyota of their day.
"I don't think we should be used to finance (the manufacturers') R&D because they will produce that engine anyway" said Monisha Kaltenborn.

Here's predicting "Lotus" 1Malaysia are the next Toyota. Heck, they look like they could end up with Trulli and Kobayashi as drivers!

as long as Kobayashi gets a drive next season I don't mind, even if it means another season of the Trulli train

Unfortunately I don't have those numbers, just a memory!

Ferrari from 1991 since 1995, and Forti in 1995

I think Honda and Toyota are way ahead in this area...... They spend almost $400-500 million every year till 2007 but not much success.
Atleast BMWs budget was half of other 2 and managed a win, a pole, lots of podiums.... once 2nd in WCC 2007, once 3rd in WCC 2008.... and Kubica was genuine title contender in 2008 untill he fell out of equation.

There. Fixed

Toyota in 2005 for being stupid enough to sign Ralf Schumacher.
