Research for Dywa profile

Post by pi314159 »

I have started writing an article about the Dywa F1 project. A little summary about it:

-Before 1969: Formula Monza
-1969: Formula 2
-1972 or 1973: 1st Formula 5000 attempt
-1974: 1st Formula 1 attempt
-1975: 2nd Formula 5000 attempt, entered at Zolder and Brands Hatch
-1976: One DNS in Formula 5000 at Mallory Park for Livio Panzone
-1979: 2nd Formula 1 attempt
-1980: 3rd Formula 1 attempt, car shows up at Monza Aurora F1 round, one very slow lap by Ghinzani
-1983: 4th Formula 1 attempt, car tested by Peo Consonni
-1985: 1st Formula 3000 attempt, no entries
-1986: 2nd Formula 3000 attempt as Ecurie Monaco, 1 DNQ

Sources on this team are very rare, and sometimes contradicting each other.

According to this article, the Dywa was present at the Formula 5000 rounds at Zolder and Brands Hatch, however, I can't find anything in the results of those races.

Another this is that both StatsF1 and Forix list this car as the 1980 car, but I'm fairly certain it is the 1983 design, as it looks much more similar to F1 cars from 1983 than 1980.

Do unraced projects count? Or would this be more of a Reject Centrale kind of entry? I ask because I've been thinking of writing an article on the Argentine Berta project from the mid '70s and have even started researching it (mainly just finding sources), but didn't continue because a reject team must have attempted to qualify for at least two Grands Prix to be eligible on the old site. Still, I look forward to reading this article in the future! :)

This would be a rejects centrale type of article. And Dywa and Berta certainly look like interesting subjects that i'm looking forward to read.

If somehow these articles don't find a place on GP Rejects (which i doubt), i'm sure F1-Gast and his UnracedF1 would be interested. Which is a project that has the GPRejects/F1Rejects blessing.
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

I might as well keep going then! I was also considering doing a Joe Kelly profile instead but I haven't actually done proper research on him, so I'll leave that to somebody else to do in the meantime :)

It's great to see others attempting to write articles too. It'll motivate me to continue with my Lola article, to be the first to be 'published' on the website!

Number one absolute most important thing, is get some primary sources. This is absolutely critical. If we only have secondary sources (especially multiple with some contradicting each other), it's not good to present it as outright fact. That concerns me greatly, and it's why doing these profiles properly is such an extremely difficult task.

Most secondary sources are problematic indeed. Both Forix and StatsF1, usually good sources, have made blatant errors on the Dywa. So I won't use this information unless primary sources back it up.

I have found a couple of old Italian newspaper articles online. I don't speak Italian, and while I can understand some sentences due to its similarities to French, it would be a big help if someone could translate these articles:

I did some research on it, but i'm stuck.

The F1 car they created in 1980 is named Dywa - 0010
While the F1 car from 1983 is named Dywa - Cosworth 0010

Now i know they entered the Aurora race in 1980 with the Dywa 0010 With Piercarlo Ghinzani, if im correct, behind the wheel. They where far to slow to do anything good with the car.

The 1983 F1 design seems to be a different F1 car but they also named it 0010 so im confused. However i would say it is a new car. Peo Consonni multiple time tested with the car and was supposed to be the driver for the team in 1984.

I did create a story about it, but i can't post it since the Dywa team seems to be incomplete with lots of questionmarks. Even their first 2 attempts to enter the F1 are a weird story.
