So now that this thread is back, I'll do 1974:

Argentina - Denny Hulme: Started 10th, but slowly worked his way up the field to take a lucky win. Which would be his final.

Brazil - Clay Regazzoni: For being the only one remotely close to Fittipaldi at the end of the race.

South Africa - Jean-Pierre Beltoise: Gives the fledging BRM their final podium with a fine 2nd.

Spain - Ferrari: After a bad 1973 season, the team bounce back to score a 1-2 victory. A lap ahead of everyone else.

Belgium - Emerson Fittipaldi: Held off a very hard charging Lauda to take the win.

Monaco - Ronnie Peterson: Despite spinning out early in the race, he recovers massively to take the win. In a year old car!

Sweden - Tom Belso: Pay driver for Frank Williams gets up to a respectable 8th place.

The Netherlands - Mike Hailwood: Made a brilliant start to take 2nd, and almost took a podium as well.

France - Tom Pryce: Qualified 3rd in only his third race, but crashed on the first lap.

U.K. - Denny Hulme: Clawed his way up to 6th, after starting 19th. (7th after Lauda's pit lane appeal.)

Germany - Clay Regazzoni: Dominated the race to take his first win in four year. Putting himself in the lead of the drivers championship.

Austria - John Watson: Unrejectifies himself with a solid 4th place after starting 11th.

Italy - Arturo Merzario: Great 4th place finish in the Frank Williams car in what would be his final points finish.

Canada - Parnelli: Team gets off to a good start with Mario Andretti qualifying 16th, and bringing it home to 7th.

U.S.A. - Brabham: Dominates the race to get a 1st, 2nd, and 5th place finish.

1955 as it happened

Argentina: Roberto Mieres (the only to score points without sharing his ride)

Monaco: Maurice Trintignant (charges the field to capture his first win)

Belgium: Paul Frére/Eugenio Castelotti (Frére for scoring again points at his home race and Castelotti by taking a Lancia to the pole)

Netherlands: Eugenio Castelotti (now with a Ferrari, he gets those points)

Britain: Mike Sparken (from 23rd to 7th)

Italy: Mercedes (by holding together to a last win by then after Le Mans disaster)

Now for 1975:

Argentina - James Hunt: The Hesketh is quick right out of the box, and he challenges for the lead before eventually finishing 2nd.

Brazil - Jean-Pierre Jarier: Dominated most of the race until his engine gave up with eight laps to go.

South Africa - Jody Scheckter: Crash king of 1973 matures to win his home race.

Spain - Lella Lombardi: Attrition, and tragic circumstances help her become the only woman so far to score championship points in F1.

Monaco - Lauda/Fittipaldi/Pace: For being pretty much the only ones who didn't make a mistake or have a problem throughout the race.

Belgium - Tyrrell: Started 9th, and 12th. Finished 2nd, and 4th.

Sweden - Mario Andretti: Get's the Parnelli up to an amazing 4th place finish.

The Netherlands - James Hunt: Finally gives Hesketh a long overdue victory by getting his tire change right, and holding off Lauda.

France - Jochen Mass: Almost catches Hunt, and Lauda in the fight for victory.

U.K. - Emerson Fittipaldi: For being the only one who didn't get caught out in the rain. As well as being technically the only one who finished it.

Germany - Alan Jones: Then unknown Australian starts 21st, and gets the Embassy Hill up to 5th place.

Austria - Vittorio Brambilla: The Monza Gorilla gets his only win in torrential conditions, as well as March's first.

Italy - James Hunt: Despite losing his 5th place to Tom Pryce in a spinout, he recovers, and gains back his place.

U.S.A. - Ronnie Peterson: After a lackluster year, he gets the Lotus in a close 5th place finish after starting 14th.

According to the documentary that was shown in the UK on BBC 2 last Sunday about Hunt & Lauda's 1976 title battle. Hunt had spent the night before this race, accompanied by a female singer James had managed to pull in a Toronto bar. ;)

Again I've heard / read stories from somewhere (I think from Hunt's biography, although I can't be 100% sure) that in the early hours before this race, Hunt was putting his motto of 'Sex, the breakfast of champions' into practice. This time apparently on a couple of Japanese air hostess. One can only imagine what Hunt got up to on the flight home from Japan...

Well, coming from James Hunt, it's not really that surprising. ;)

Anyways, on to 1977:

Argentina - Walter Wolf Racing: Win on their debut race. Can't go wrong with that. 8-)

Brazil - Renzo Zorzi: Sporatic driver scores his only point in his very short career.

South Africa - Niki Lauda: First win after his near fatal accident. Although in tragic circumstances.

U.S.A. West - Mario Andretti: After years of trying, he finally gets his home race win. Giving the US something to cheer about.

Spain - Jochen Mass: Almost scores a podium after starting 9th.

Monaco - Jody Scheckter: Proves that his win in Argentina was no fluke by winning the jewel-in-the-crown. As well as the DFV's 100th.

Belgium - Gunnar Nilsson: Talented man get's his only win in his career that was tragically cut short by cancer.

Sweden - Jacques Laffite: Gives Ligier their first win after starting 8th.

France - John Watson: Almost won the race for the midfield Brabham team.

U.K. - James Hunt: DNQ last year. Winner this year.

Germany - Patrick Tambay: Scores a point in only his second start. In an Ensign!

Austria - Alan Jones: Started 14th. Won the race. Such an unexpected result, they didn't have his national anthem to play.

The Netherlands - Patrick Tambay: Almost gave Ensign a podium! But ran out of gas on the last lap.

Italy - Patrick Neve: Pay driver who started dead last, then thanks mostly to attrition, gets up to the mind boggling heights of 7th.

U.S.A. - Clay Regazzoni: Yet another points finish for Ensign after starting 19th.

Canada - Jody Scheckter: Gives another win for Wolf at the team's home race after starting 9th.

Japan - Riccardo Patrese: Scoring a point isn't a bad way to end you're first season.

France - Alan Jones: Started 14th. Came in 5th.

Now for 1979:

Argentina - Carlos Reutemann: Got that aging Lotus 79 into 2nd place, while being the only one remotely close to Jacques Laffite.

South Africa - Jean-Pierre Jarier: Scores his first podium in nearly 5 years.

Long Beach - Alan Jones: Started 10th, and finished 3rd in the last race for the FW06.

Spain - Lotus: A 2-3 finish in what was a rather mixed bag year for them.

Belgium - Jody Scheckter: Excellent climb up in a track that isn't good on passing to take a crucial win.

Monaco - Clay Regazzoni: Almost pulled an "Olivier Panis" there.

France - Jean-Pierre Jabouille: While he was overshadowed by Arnoux and Villeneuve. He made a nice drive to score his first win on home soil.

U.K. - Williams: After years of trying, Frank finally gets it. On home soil to boot.

Germany - Geoff Lees: Almost scores a point in a one-off for Tyrrell.

Austria - Jody Scheckter: Keeps his championship hopes alive by working his way up from 9th, to 4th.

The Netherlands - Nelson Piquet: Unrejectified in the crappy Brabham.

Italy - Niki Lauda: Another 4th place for Brabham.

Canada - Alan Jones/Gilles Villeneuve: Both guys destroyed everyone else while fighting for the win.

U.S.A. - Elio de Angelis: Gives a last hurrah for Shadow by unrejectifying himself after starting 20th.

2001

Australia - Sauber - Heidfeld 4th and unrejectified, plus Räikkönen 6th and closer to unrejectification on début.

Malaysia - Jos Verstappen - Could have scored points, but had to settle for 7th.

Brazil - Nick Heidfeld - First career podium, despite a lap down.

San Marino - Ralf Schumacher - Won his first race in a straight fight with Coulthard while the two were miles ahead of the competition.

Spain - Juan-Pablo Montoya - 2nd after starting 12th and his first GP finish.

Austria - Kimi Räikkönen - Unrejectified in only his 6th race. Honorable mention to Jos the Boss for scoring a point.

Canada - Jean Alesi - 5th in the below-par Prost.

Europe - For lack of anything better: Michael Schumacher and Juan-Pablo Montoya - They were far ahead of the competition. Heck, was there any?

France - Sauber - another decent result with 6th and 7th.

Great Britain - Mika Häkkinen - Finally shows his greatness again. Honorable mention to Sauber for another double points finish.

Germany - Benetton - Finally a decent result, and arguably the most reliable team diring the weekend. Honorable mention to Jean Alesi again for another points finish, opand only being 3 seconds off Jacques Villeneuve in 3rd place, despite the Benettons in between him.

Hungary - Gotta give it to Sauber - Another 6th and 7th place for the Hinwil squad.

Belgium - Giancarlo Fisichella - Gets a podium in the horrid Benetton. Honorable mention for Heinz-Herald Frentzen for qualifying 4th and getting back to 8th after being sent to the back for stalling. In a Prost!

Italy - Juan-Pablo Montoya - Winning his first race for the Williams team in his rookie season.

United States - Fernando Alonso - Outqualified Villeneuve's BAR car and ran well until the driveshaft failed.

Japan - Jenson Button - 7th about the best Benetton can do on their way out.

2002

Australia - Minardi - Simply for Webber finishing 5th and Yoong 7th despite only 8 finishers.

Malaysia - Juan-Pablo Montoya and Michael Schumacher - Finishing on the podium despite first lap incident. Honorable mention to Sauber for another double points finish, showing they still have good form, and Alan McNish for finishing 7th after starting 19th.

Brazil - Mika Salo - Grabbing the first point for Toyota's F1 campaign.

San Marino - Jenson Button - Another points finish for him and Renault, much better than last year.

Belgium - Toyota - Salo and McNish get 7th and 9th respectively in below-par cars.

Italy - Eddie Irvine - Podium in the bad Jaguar.

United States - Jacques Villeneuve - I don't know, at least he got 6th in a car worse than its predecessor.

France - Jacques Villeneuve: Another 4th place.

Austria - Jenson Button: Stared 18th, finished 5th.

Germany - Rubens Barrichello: After years of coming so close, yet no cigar. He suffers a bad qualifying session, and makes a hard charge up the lead only to have rain get in the way. But despite these setbacks, he presses on to take his long overdue first victory.

Hungary - Mika Hakkinen: For holding off the might of Shumacher for the entire race.

Belgium - Michael Schumacher: Great recovery drive to finish a very close 2nd.

Italy - Jos Verstappen: Came close to scoring a podium for Arrows.

Spain - Fernando Alonso - Gave the home fans something to cheer about.

Austria - Michael Schumacher - Won the race even when the car caught fire in the pits.

Monaco - Juan-Pablo Montoya - Held off Räikkönen and Schumacher successfully to take a well-deserved win.

United States - Giancarlo Fisichella - 17th to 7th in the awful Jordan.

Japan - Michael Schumacher - Wins his 6th world title in style from 14th on the grid.
