Re: Yet another type of alternative championship.

I forgot Pironi was second in the 1982 British GP behind Lauda, and I almost completely discounted him since he didn't complete the year! Oh well, that makes 1983 more open since Pironi didn't compete in any further seasons! Right educated guesses from 1983 to the present day! 1983: Prost (I believe...

Re: Possible updates to "Hall of Shame"

Nelson Piquet Jr for "You Lucky B******d" (though did he scrape enough other points finishes in 2008 not to need his flukey safety-car induced 2nd at Hockenheim?) Yes, he had a 4th in Fuji. (and a 6th in Hungary, but that wasn't needed). I still think he'd be a worthwile addition though. ...

Only Lauda of the regular contenders that year is eliminated - Laffite was nowhere in reality, Jones had retired, Villeneuve was ki...

Re: F1 Finals 2010*

Gets a bit unfair when you have to include drivers who have lost their seat or are out injured (Trulli/Ralf in 2004)! I'll do one for 2008 as there were no replacements that year: The standings after Italy were: 1. Lewis Hamilton 78 2. Felipe Massa 77 3. Robert Kubica 64 4. Kimi Raikkonen 57 5. Nick...

Re: Yet another type of alternative championship.

One this gets to about the mid-80s, I think I'm going to try to predict all the champions from that point to date - I don't really know enough about the sport from earlier, and I know the one year which I think is REALLY hard to predict will be 1982 because of how open it was. Most of the main conte...

To be fair, the Prost was a very competitive car in 1997, Panis was 3rd in the championship before his injury.

Actually you're right - Panis was challenging for 2nd in this championship, before his Canada crash.

Alternative 1997 Championship (without M Schumacher!)

AS we all know, Michael Schumacher was stripped of his 2nd place in the 1997 WC standings due to his professional foul at Jerez in the last race of the season. However, in an alternative reality, it is deemed that losing a 2nd place in the championship but keeping all his results throughout the year...

I'm confused, BOTH Lauda and Scheckter are ineligible for 1975 onwards due to them tying for most wins in 1974? I thought only one driver got taken out of the reckoning per year?

But great thread, can't wait to see what happens when you reach the 80s!

I remember Autosport publishing an article at the start of the year when the new points system came in about any possible changes to past years based on this points sytem, but I can't remember what they were, except Timo Glock wouldn't have been the enemy of all Brazilians in 2008!
