Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

1975 This was the first season in which half-points were awarded for red-flagged races. This of course creates a problem for the 1930s points system. I didn't feel that it would make sense to award double points for the Spanish and Austrian GPs. Non-starters would already have been awarded 8 points...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

1974 The battle for this year's championship is more or less the same, except for the outcome. Clay Regazzoni becomes Ferrari's first World Champion since 1961. McLaren may have lost their first Drivers' Championship, but they still have their first Constructors' title. Drivers' Championship: http:...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

As I was doing these three seasons I noticed that the battle for minor positions in the Constructors' Championship becomes nail-bitingly close between teams that weren't frequent podium finishers. At this point in time a constructor usually got at least one car to the end of the race, so teams in th...

Re: Complete list of Driver Unrejectifications

I think current Mercedes and current Lotus should be different entities from the versions which originated in the 50s. Same with the 50s Alfa Romeo and the 70s/80s version. (And both versions of Renault too for that matter). So Mercedes would be Malaysia 2010 and Lotus would be Bahrain 2012 I belie...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

Now to finish the '60s and get started on the '70s. 1969 Again, not much different. Drivers' Championship: http://sundarf1.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/jackie-stewart.jpg 1. Jackie Stewart 30 pts. 2. Jacky Ickx 37 pts. 3. Jean-Pierre Beltoise 43 pts. 4. Denny Hulme 47 pts. 5. Graham Hill 48 pts. 6. B...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

1966 The unreliability throughout the field as a result of the new 3-litre formula was such that Guy Ligier was 2nd in the championship after Zandvoort! Unfortunately we did not get the novelty of having a reject runner-up as Ligier was injured in a crash at the Nürburgring and was out for the rest...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

1963 Clark dominated and set a new record for least points scored in a season at 16, 4 less than the previous record set by Fangio in 1955. He also set a record for biggest winning margin, at 20 points, another record originally set by Fangio in 1954. Drivers' Championship: http://f1.imgci.com/PICT...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

1960 Brabham was not quite so dominant in the points as in reality with McLaren leading the championship for the first half of the season and even Ferrari with their outdated "horse pulls the cart" philosophy had a mathematical chance in the final round with Phil Hill (although the mass b...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

As promised, here's the rest of the 1950s: 1953 Again not much to say, some drivers higher in the standings, some lower, Ascari still dominates: http://f1.imgci.com/PICTURES/CMS/00/77.4.jpg 1. Alberto Ascari 25 pts. 2. Giuseppe Farina 34 pts. 3. Mike Hawthorn 35 pts. 4. Juan Manuel Fangio 37 pts. 5....

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

I'll wrap up today with: 1952 Interestingly Stirling Moss finishes in the top ten despite retiring from every race he started! Otherwise not many surprises: http://f1.imgci.com/PICTURES/CMS/00/77.4.jpg 1. Alberto Ascari 21 pts. 2. Giuseppe Farina 32 pts. 3. Piero Taruffi 36 pts. 4. Robert Manzon 42 ...

Re: 1930s Points System Alternative Championship

And now for: 1951 This year we have six different drivers in contention for the title in the final round with Fangio and Ascari tied on 28 points, González and Villoresi on 31, and Farina and Rosier on 33. With Ferrari's tyre troubles Fangio took an easy victory to take his second straight title. Fi...

Good question. I could be wrong but in terms of race starts it's Pedro Diniz with 48. In terms of time I think it's Nicola Larini with nearly seven years between his debut and Imola '94.

1930s Points - Lewis Hamilton is a 7-time World Champion

This is an alternative championship that uses the points system of the European Championship in the 1930s. This system was interesting in that the driver with the least points was declared champion and was broken down as follows: 1st = 1 point 2nd = 2 points 3rd = 3 points >75% of the race completed...

I didn't know whether to make a new topic on this or not, but I have a complete list of both driver and team unrejectifications that I will post here: Drivers 1950 British Grand Prix: Giuseppe Farina, Luigi Fagioli, Reg Parnell, Yves Giraud-Cabantous 1950 Monaco Grand Prix: Juan Manuel Fangio, Alber...
