Re: Capricorn 1

@SáT: I'd like to know the source of your information if possible (I'm dying to check it for myself really) It was leaked out in the spring of 1994, by F1 drivers, that's when I got to know about it. It was a staged coup of sorts, led by Ayrton Senna, though obviously he was just a figurehead, it w...

Re: Capricorn 1

Well, the programme of simulated car races in fact started in 1942, when Hitler commissioned number of projects of entertainment in order to avert the subdued people's attention away from wartime suffering &c. One of these projects was auto racing, but the war effort prevented Germany from makin...

Re: The return of Coloni?

Veritas used to race in F1? wow, never knew that. More or less. Veritas Meteors were privately entered by German drivers in the German grands prix in the early 50s. They were, of course, rather uncompetitive, and never scored a point. And I thought the automotive part of De Tomaso had folded, and t...

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Valencia!

What's more, Barrichello unexpectedly came third in that race! And Herbert had his emotional victory, much like Barrichello had his emotional victory now.

The similarities are striking, except for the retirements and the excitements. Hehe, I just realized how much fun the 1999 season was.

Re: Most Forgettable Drivers

A few I'm surprised you haven't mentioned yet: Gastón Mazzacane Tarso Marques ... we forgot them. Let me add Norberto Fontana, if he hasn't been mentioned yet (I remember him as a test driver, but totally forgot his whole year in the Sauber), and also Esteban Tuero. Also Sarrazin, I totally forgot ...

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Valencia!

I think so. IIRC the speed limiters came about in 94-ish. I remember Coulthard blaming his stop&go penalty in the 95 British GP on the fault of his automatic speed limiter. The Man Himself says about his speeding in the pitlane: "I am used to a 100 kph limit in testing and so when I pressed...

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Valencia!

What happened there? Some mechanical problem? Crashed and got hurt? Nope. They were struggling with the setup really bad (Gilles Villeneuve was 22nd on the grid or so too), the car was generally crappy (8 points all year! though there were some awesome performances from Villeneuve), and Scheckter w...

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Valencia!

Are the BBC correct in their assertion that Luca has just broken another record - the first person to qualify a Ferrari in last place? Not really. Peter Whitehead qualified dead last with a privateer Ferrari at the 1950 French Grand Prix, having recorded no time. He came in third, eventually, and t...
