Re: The 2015 pre-season testing thread
A thought struck me about the RB camo livery. Disguises can be used to hide strengths and weakneses. So... anyone think RB might be in trouble this year after all? Renault is still down on power behind both Merc and Ferrari, Newey's involvement is reduced since he is kinda "passing the torch&qu...

Re: The Marussia Thread
Apparently, Manor would be eligible for the prize money since they earned it and were given due permission to miss the few races last year. However it's not the FIA that is likely to block them, it's "allegedly" up to the F1 teams themselves or the strategy group to allow Manor. This makes...

How many times must they almost go broke? I know they're the darling team, but now would be a good time to pay off whatever debt is possible and wrap up their time in F1. What possible purpose does 'competing' in 2015 have? Their 2014 car was pretty good actually but they didn't have the money to us...

Re: The 2015 pre-season testing thread
Following the 1st day of testing i wrote some (completely ridiculous i'm sure) predictions about team performance in 2015. I didn't really want to create a "navel-gazing" thread so i'll post the stuff here. I'm sure it's almost offensively innacurate, but writing predictions based on actua...

Makes it a very hollow threat if Renault were to leave F1. Ferrari is more important, but they cannot threaten to pull out without admitting defeat. Meanwhile Mercedes have through Wolff's comments hinted that if their legitimate success and engine advantage is kicked out of their hands, they will l...

Perez and Magnussen could well be "crasher of the year" nominees, but such is Maldonado's reputation for agressive driving and throwing it in the wall that he ends up being the default nominee and others just have to try and fail that little bit harder. He's been pretty calm and humble all...

I was under the impression that there were no cars within 20s ahead or behind him. Possibly Ericsson on better tyres could have been a threat in those conditions even if further back than 20s, though it's not possible to do more than guess. We can't ask him about it. Maybe he was damned if he did, because slowing down would have possibly robbed his car of downforce and made it more likely to aquaplane. There were no cars in front or behind him at the time that would justify speeding.

Indeed. What is known simply as Caterham (the F1 team that races the cars) is composed of numerous other companies/entites, and one of those might have been sold for a buck and a half-eaten sandwich. Ok fine, using 0 or 00 on a car can be sensible if a bit gimmicky. Though in Damon's case it wasn't his choice, it was forced by circumstances. I'm pleased Hamilton intends to keep 44 on his car/helmet. He might add a smaller no.1 somewhere as a token but this is hardly giving tradition the finger. The difference is that at least Honda are embarassing themselves in November and not February so you'd think they will have enough time to sort out their engine.

I thought Mattiaci was Marchionne's man, and that he was placed in the position of Team Principal as a hatchet man. He was never going to stay long term, he was just Marchionne's pawn (or knight more fairly) in his attempt to clean house. Alonso and Di Montezemolo apparently had too much say in how ...

That Caterham could be a career ender and he doesn't seem to have very deep pockets. I see the decision as a vote of confidence on Magnussen. If he's not retained, he's effectively not good enough.
