Re: 2021 Discussion Thread - Styrian GP discussion!
While that is unfortunate for both Vettel and Aston Martin, it's more of a relief that Williams aren't losing nearly half their points - which would have put them more within striking distance for Alfa Romeo too.

Re: Reject of the Race - Hungary
I know nobody's mentioned him yet as there are more glaring errors, but how about a DHM for Danny Ric? With a Red Bull and Mercedes out, plus a Ferrari and his teammate, and the two remaining cars from the top 2 teams compromised, you'd expect him to be on or around the podium, but didn't even score...

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary
1. Alpine
2. Latifi (think he deserves it more than Williams as a whole as I was expecting him to plunge down the order and even behind Russell. None of it).

Re: Reject of the Race - Hungary
Plenty of candidates here (most noticeably Bottas) but for most costly it probably does have to be Alfa Romeo. That 7 point gap to Williams might be too much to bridge if there isn't another freak race.

Re: Reject of the Race - Great Britain
As far as I can see the first lap was just two racers giving 100% fighting for the championship; one wanted to get past, the other wanted to prevent that. Even people outside the two teams said racing incident. But of the fallout, my biggest mention goes to Helmut Marko. He had never had anything go...

Re: Rumoured F1/motorsport driver/team moves
One interesting one for me is if Alonso had gone to Red Bull for 2008 (Christian Horner did confirm he was in talks). He'd have looked like a genius given what happened to them in the next few years. Though it would have been in place of Webber (who would have gone to Renault instead of Alonso), so ...

Re: The Kubica Trophy - Three Strikes and Your Country's Out
Now that France is already gone I can totally see Keke dominating the series for the next 3 seasons. Assuming Johansson wins 1985 in the Ferrari and thus eliminates Sweden, 1986 could be very interesting An Arrows shootout - Boutsen v Danner I THINK. Rosberg could struggle to win 1984 as he hardly ...

You haven't included the points table tBone! But I did call it about 1979 - though what a ludicrous points system that was. It's the closest thing to the medal system Bernie wanted to introduce! Anyway now Villeneuve Jr can't win 1998 I did take a sneak preview of it (looked at the full table on Wik...

Ferrari's race pace after their disaster last week. Even hope they might have had a nibble at Bottas/Perez if they'd qualified well in Sainz's case, and not been delayed in Leclerc's case.

Ferrari for definite. I get why people are saying Mercedes but they haven't had competition like this for a while (and when they did you knew Ferrari in 2017/18 wouldn't be as sharp as Red Bull are now), plus also most of 2019 and 2020 Red Bull only had one car in the mix - having Perez in the mix i...

Re: The Kubica Trophy - Three Strikes and Your Country's Out
Montoya might even struggle to win 2001 as he finishes so few races (6 I think) meaning he could be vulnerable to a slower but more reliable car (Verstappen Snr maybe), so he could still be in for 2004. Whatever way it's either him or Alonso (1 point between them in real life so hard to predict). I ...

There is actually a chance Japan gets out before 1998 too (they could well win 3 between 1987 and 1991 by my reckoning). So if Villeneuve Snr does win 1979 we're left literally with that shared Stewart drive!

1974 was the one I really couldn't predict as I knew it would be really close between Fittipaldi and Regazzoni. Rindt has already won 1 title for Austria, so that probably means Scheckter wins 1977 (though as there haven't been any significant South African drivers since, it won't affect later years...

The biggest shock I can see there from 2020 is Stroll ahead of Checo. I'm guessing a lot of that would have been the early part of the season.

To me, Heikki Kovalainen is an anonymous winner. Just lucky that Massa and Hamilton both hit trouble (and Kimi was trapped in slower traffic at a circuit you can't pass on too).

So according to the Williams and Mercedes stats - Maldonado beats Bottas by more than Hamilton beat Rosberg. Then Bottas later became Hamilton's teammate. So that means to me if Maldonado had been in a Mercedes those last 7 years he might have won a few WDCs.

Just had a quick peek at the 1965 championship in real life - it is anyone's in this! The driver I had winning in my mental notes is not the highest-placed driver in the championship but someone who finishes more races - though the best 6 scores rule could also scupper him due to dropping points. It...
