Re: inanimate reject: wheel tethers

It's more complicated than that. I remember seeing a thread on another forum about precisely this issue. The tether must be weaker than the attachment points on the tub. This may seem odd but if they were stronger then the attachment points would break, resulting in the tub being damaged and weakene...

(Did anyone notice the letters "BAR" also happen to be the first three letters in "Brawn"?) Actually, it goes WAY deeper than that: - In 1970, two March entries were fielded by Ken Tyrell. - Tyrell then went on to establish his own team. - When Tyrell went bust, they were acquir...

Re: GP Tracks we would like to see

There's a reason why the FIA dictates the speed at which a driver must be able to take the first corner, and that's it. There's also rules against corners like that hairpin appearing; look at what happened at the A1GP race in Beijing which featured the cars going down one side of a dual-carrigeway ...

Depends if he had won at Imola, come second or simply surived the crash. If he's have won, with Schumacher 2nd, he'd be 16pts behind. If Schumacher had beaten him at Imola (entirely possible, Benetton had great pit stop strategy that year), the gap would have been 24pts. If Senna had still crashed b...

Re: F1 car numbers under the pre-1996 system

I did a run through over the years and the only trend that seemed to appear in the old system was that the major reshuffles happened every 5 years, in years ending with 9 and 4. There were lots of gaps in 78 and 83 but then no gaps (apart form 13) in 79 and 84 for example. So when I got to post-1995...

Gaps in the numbering usually came from teams that were originally entered but then were'nt able to. Larrousse in 1995 as someone said. Even in the current system 2002 had a gap where Prost would have been. When the initial entry list for this year was published it had 18 and 19 with a Honda TBA wit...

If the overspender is trailing around at the back then I think it would have been a major success. Finally spending more will get you less. Any team that decides to do that will quickly switch over for 2011.

If the overspender's are at the front it will be a problem.

To me it sounds like Max is just saying, 'we'd hate to see you leave but if worst comes to worst we'll carry on without you'. Ferrari do have that special something whether you like it or not (not in my case). F1 would survive without Ferrari, but it wouldn't be the same.

They put a cap of costs yet introduce a ban on refueling, which means that each team will have to completely redesign their cars. Guess what that means. Yep, more money down the drain. The return of low fuel qualifying is great news. Qualifying will mean something again. Also, the cars that are best on a full fuel load or have great race pace may not be the ones that are fastest on low fuel, so the race result should be different to the grid.

If the race is moved to a different country it could always take another name. After all, there were rumours about a month ago that Abu Dhabi might not be ready and Montreal would replace it. Obviously that would be with the Canadian Grand Prix name. The last time a race was moved after the start of...

PRE-qualifying, only used to take place when there were more than 30 entries anyway. Between 26 and 30 entries and you'd just fail to qualify after entering practice. I'm not saying it would still be that way, it depends on how many cars are allowed to Practice, not start the race.

FIrst of all, a couple of nitpicky facts: Indy cars weigh 725 kg on road courses, 695 kg on ovals, compared to the 605kg of F1 cars. So F1 cars are nowhere near half the weight. The Indy car season has 10 ovals and 7 road/street circuits this year, so the balance is getting closer to 50/50. Of the d...
