Re: 2022 Discussion Thread
I agree with RAK that I'd happily lose all of the Repressive Regime GP's right off the top. That said, I don't get fatigued with watching too many races. How many matches do typical football (soccer) fans watch in a year? My problems with more races are that half of those being added in the last few...

I don't think it is unreasonable for Porsche to have thought that might have been on the table - there have been some rumours that Mateschitz has not been in great health this year, given his advanced age, and that he was considering the option of selling a stake in the team to allow him to step ba...

So, given that the idea of a Porsche-Red Bull partnership was meant to have been an open secret for such a long time, Porsche have now confirmed that they are pulling out of negotiations with Red Bull. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/porsche-officially-calls-off-f1-entry-plans-after-no-red-bull-...

They are there to explain to the people at home what's happening, and they don't necessarily always do a very good job of it considering the amount of information they have given to them. Something about it irked me. A number of good points, but the quoted part really hit home to me. And it highlig...

Re: Reject of the Race - Italy 2022
Understandable points, I want to address this one first. Considering this about people saying what should have happened rather than what actually did happen this may be an overreaction, but nevertheless it's an increasingly worrying trend. There's also the issue of statements made regarding the furt...

Danny Ric. Based on nothing other than my almost certainly misguided view that the new regs are going to catapult one of the midfield teams into a clear advantage (see also: Merc, 2014; Red Bull and Honda. 2009. McLaren, 1998). Not 100% sure this has aged terribly well tbh It wasn't a bad guess at ...

When was the last time we had silly season/contract hijinks of this magnitude? Seems like several years if not a lot more. F1's been pretty boring in this regard for quite a while.

Re: 2023 Silly Season
Thanks Mario, it's understandable that it didn't work out, but I kind of liked it because it sort of harkened back to a time in the distant past when you could take your racecar to a different continent and just show up and compete. Which is what I also found appealing about the IMSA/ACO stuff and s...

Ok, this is way off topic, but in a similar line to Mario's last post, did the DTM and Japanese Super GT ever consolidate under a single ruleset? I seem to remember reading about that a couple years ago, but I haven't followed closely enough to know what's going on there. They have traditionally bee...

Yeah Mario, I just want to see a good, young driver get a decent shot and I hate to see a sort of silly brinksmanship that could put that in jeopardy. That said, he seems to be sought-after enough that it may not be a problem. I suppose I also don't want to see Ricciardo ousted either (don't really ...

But seriously, what ARE Mclaren doing? By my count, they have 10(!) drivers under contract next year for a possible nine seats across 4 racing series. It feels pretty clear that it's Ferrari, but I have a nagging feeling. Essentially, Sainz did the strategy that we thought Leclerc should have done (I know Sainz's final stint on the softs was longer than ideal, slightly extending one or both of the medium stints would have been better). Even though...

We’ve had this conversation bit by bit a number of times in the past and I’m sure we will a number of times to come in the future, but I want to talk about sports washing or when F1 partners with a regime or government that is repressive or violent or corrupt. I'm not sure what race you are watching and you're entitled to your opinion, but i'd rather keep DRS at most points. 2. Albon. He's showing himself to be a good set of hands behind the wheel of a rolling trash bin. 2. Verstappen. I agree with all the DRS comments. You're not wrong. I hate to see anyone go like that. To reflect on his legacy in F1 a bit, I am not a fan of a lot of the things he did and how he did them, but he was absolutely right that the drivers and teams couldn't be responsible for safety and that it was the sport's responsibility instead. I...
